Colby Rasmus should be on the White Sox radar
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 15, 2010 -> 08:32 PM) I'm not confident that Sale will cut it as a starter. If he does, that changes things quite a bit. The only way we're going to figure that out is to try him as a starter in the bigs for a while.

Colby Rasmus should be on the White Sox radar
QUOTE (sircaffey @ Oct 15, 2010 -> 08:38 PM) I would hope that the Sox don't let Sale go more than 120 IP next year, at the most. Why? He pitched 140 in 2009 and 136 in 2010, including 20+ IP at the big league level. If you just follow the Verducci Effect rule, he's ok for 165-170 next year.

2010 ALCS: Rangers vs. Yankees
QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Oct 15, 2010 -> 08:25 PM) This is the Rangers year. What a great start to the series. A 3 run lead against Captain Cheeseburger. That's exactly what they needed. They take this game and they're going to be really hard to beat.

Colby Rasmus should be on the White Sox radar
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 15, 2010 -> 08:07 PM) If we still had Hudson, I'd no doubt do it. But I don't believe in creating a major hole in one spot to fill another. I hope KW proves me wrong. But he's really f***ed this organization up with his chronic obsession with "going for it" every year while continuously coming up short. Would you take that deal if Sale took over the rotation? Look at it this way. Trading D1 saves maybe about $7-$8 mil in arbitration this year. Putting Rasmus in RF Fills: the Left hand power bat opening, moves Quentin permanently to DH so the DH spot is filled with a guy who at least gives you 25 HR and an .800 OPS if he's healthy (which really isn't that bad for DH's in the AL based on last year), and we've got those spots filled with $15-20 million to spend, or more. That's plenty of money to keep Konerko, sign a catcher, and find a closer.

Colby Rasmus should be on the White Sox radar
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 15, 2010 -> 06:01 PM) Then let's get Albert Pujols. Makes about as much sense as the article on Rsmus and us trading Danks and 2 good prospects for the guy I could see a Danks/Rasmus matchup actually starting to make some sense for both sides. Clear out a clubhouse trouble, get a guy who is only in his first arb year so doesn't kill the bank, White Sox get a 23 year old LH bat who can at least contribute defensively in the OF. Infante they probably would really try to hold onto because they need the reliever...but KW has shown no hesitation about dealing guys from A-ball.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 15, 2010 -> 05:48 PM) If he would have ran up against one of those Don Nelson teams that wanted to run up and down the floor without playing defense, and he got into one of his zones, I could see it being possible once. His average would have been sick with the defensive rules today, plus the clear out offenses. Here's Hollinger's take. Read full thing, small excerpt.

Colby Rasmus should be on the White Sox radar
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Oct 15, 2010 -> 04:59 PM) Could A Quentin/Rasmus swap possibly work? In terms of raw value that's a loser for the Cardinals right now...Quentin's value has just dropped so much between injuries and disappointment.

Financial News
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 15, 2010 -> 04:50 PM) I tend to doubt that happened regularly, and here is why. I've had mortgages and loans before, big and small, with a number of institutions. And every single time, they wanted copies of W-2's showing income. Like I said it's just my impression, but I think in a whole lot of the mortgages issued 2004-2007, that broke down completely. We've heard way too many anecdotes so far. Remember that 2008 thread on the auto loan where the issuer lied about the income to get her a BMW?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 15, 2010 -> 04:31 PM) It has to have a true damaging effect. Like say, deliberately lying about a person's income because otherwise the mortgage wouldn't have been approved? I think that has happened all the time. That's what happens when you deliberately stop verifying income.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 15, 2010 -> 04:26 PM) Creating more laws to enforce costs money, Congress often forgets this. You're saying that like it's a flaw and an accident, rather than a deliberate end-around.

Financial News
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 15, 2010 -> 04:23 PM) This would cost everyone money in litigation, and could bury some underwriters and mortgage providers (which may be a good thing, if some of them have routinely put out bad mortgages). Fortunately, I get the impression that the level of material flaw will not likely be very high. We'll have to see. Well, frankly right now I'm just going on intuition...but really, I don't think you could have yet gone wrong by overestimating the level of malfeasance on the part of the financial and banking industry over the past 10-ish years. If there's something they could have screwed up...they screwed it up worse. I think the thousands of illegally stamped foreclosures is probably just the tip of the iceberg here.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Oct 15, 2010 -> 04:10 PM) Banks getting pummeled this week. Remeber the reaction to the news is always more important than the news itself. Something to keep in mind with the QE2 talk floating around. JPM down over 10% since earnings Wed morning. BAC down almost 20% since Wed morning. Before this crisis ends we'll see if too big to fail is truly too big too fail. Yay, an excuse to post this article! The scary part here is that they have zero idea of how big of a problem this could be.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Oct 15, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) I've actually thought he has looked much improved offensively this preseason. His footwork seems to be getting better and if he is even an average offensive center he can be a huge asset. You also have to remember that the scheme he was in last year basically had him come out to the top of the key to screen for DR1 and then he had to come in from behind if he was going to contribute anything other than a rebound. And on my list of things I don't want to have to do...keeping up with Rose on a drive appears quite highly

Edwin Jackson Megathread...
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 15, 2010 -> 03:03 PM) If that is your standard, then you NEVER draft pitching in the first round. There is no such thing as near 100% sure, except maybe a couple of times a decade. That's the wrong interpretation and I think you know that. You don't draft a pitcher in the first round with the idea that this pitcher will be a Closer. Whether or not there's such thing as a 100% shot, you don't limit yourself to a 1 inning guy in the first round.
