QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 19, 2010 -> 05:46 PM) I believe this also ends the last of the "safe" investments, real estate. People will now understand that there are risks and values can fall. I remember buying my first house, conventional wisdom was buy more house than you could currently comfortably afford because your income will rise and the value of the home will increase. It worked wonderfully for me because A and B happened, now I realize how foolish that move may have been. I gotta call B.S. on this Tex. The groupthink that has driven the last 2 bubbles isn't going to go away. There was every reason in 2001 to think that the Stock Market was a risky investment, but books called "Dow 36,000" were still published. Housing bubbles had happened and popped repeatedly throughout history. California had one in the late 80's. There's the legendary Florida land rush before the depression. Hell, there is every reason to believe China has a monstrous real estate bubble going right now as we speak, and their interest rate increase today probably will wind up being something similar to what was going on in the U.S. market in 06 or so. If things like leverage aren't regulated, the same groupthink will take over, some wizard will convince himself he's come up with the new security, and bang.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 16, 2010 -> 07:48 PM) The more I think about it the more I can't see how the hell the Giants are going to be able to score enough runs to make this series competitive. Cody Ross, again?

2010 ALCS: Rangers vs. Yankees
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 19, 2010 -> 04:29 PM) I still believe Zach Grienke is still a top 5-10 pitcher in the AL and have no reason to think otherwise. The Sox, as good of a rotation as they may have, don't really have an ace, shutdown type pitcher. Greinke could absolutely be that guy. Greinke was #28 in the AL in ERA this year, 18th in k/9IP, had a worse WHIP than D1, etc. I'm not sure what numbers are out there to say he didnt' have a top 5-10 year, but pretty much all of them say he was somewhere between D1 and Buehrle.

Peavy vows to "listen to my body"
QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 19, 2010 -> 02:22 PM) http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...rticle_15713980 What? So, he's ignored pain for the sake of his career? I think this quote actually makes sense with this season...we heard for a couple weeks before the real injury that Peavy was having shoulder tightness and that something felt amiss, but it was just a dead arm and he was going to pitch through it. Instead, his shoulder popped completely off somehow.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 19, 2010 -> 04:56 PM) We get a hint in the article of what the conditions are, that the holders feel are being violated: So no one is looking for an unwind, no one is looking for anything earth-shattering. They are looking for better records and docs (easy to fix), and then looking to put onto the bad lenders the obligations of underwriting. What this will do is focus the badness on those parties who wrote and specifically underwrote bad loans, that they were aware of or obviously should have been aware of being bad in the first place. That will end in a narrow set of parties paying big, the MBS securities remaining intact, and the security bundlers having to just keep better records and use better trustee conventions. That's my take anyway. Well, here's the biggest problem...most of those bad lenders are long since gone and out of business. There's probably a few left, like Countrywide, which is BofA's nightmare now, but there's no originators left from the boom to go after. The only people left to go after are the people who approved the loan and then packaged and sold it...aka, the big banks.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 19, 2010 -> 03:13 PM) I feel like I need to respond, but I don't understand your post. I thought I illustrated the chain of players in a likely battle here, and really, its the same chain for investors or mortgage holders, except for the very low end of it. Is that what you meant? I got the impression that you thought the banks really weren't facing much in the way of systemic risk of lawsuits at all, whether they came from the mortgageholders or the investors. probably my mistake.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 19, 2010 -> 03:07 PM) Yup, they are getting slapped around now. And as I talked about earlier, this is all about the underwriting. That's where the s*** is going to roll to. I know you disagreed with the idea that they had any issues with the people they were foreclosing on, but I missed where you thought they had any issues with their investors over these.

Updating that last post, this one tells who the players are bringning that suit against BofA. The NY Fed is involved. That counts as a BFD I think.

2010 ALCS: Rangers vs. Yankees
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 19, 2010 -> 02:13 PM) If the Sox needed another starting pitcher, you bet your sweet ass I would. The Royals defense was absolutely dreadful last year and was a huge reason Greinke put up mediocre numbers. Really? Greinke's K/9 in 09 was 9.5, his career number is 7.6, and he was back to 7.4 last year. His career BB/9 is 2.3, and it was 2.0 in 09 and 2.3 in 2010. He gave up a lot more fly balls in 2010 than in 2009, so he wound up giving up a lot more hits. But if his defense was failing to field balls put in play, his BABIP should have shot up, and instead it was .309 in 2008, .307 in 2009, and .309 in 2010.

2010 ALCS: Rangers vs. Yankees
QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Oct 19, 2010 -> 01:55 PM) Why the hell did Ron Washington use Feliz in an 8-0 game last night? Did you see how Feliz performed in his first outing? He was shaky and wild. He's getting him comfortable and back in rhythm. I don't think they have any rules against using him in 3 consecutive games if needbe, and he went over a week without pitching before Sunday, IIRC.

2010 ALCS: Rangers vs. Yankees
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 19, 2010 -> 01:27 PM) Too bad Kenny won't be able to pull off a trade for a legitimately good Royals player. If you were trading for Greinke, which price would you expect to pay...the price for the 2009, best pitcher in baseball guy, or the price for the above average but no where near dominant every year but 2009 guy? If I were the Royals, I'd be asking for the kind of deal the Mariners got for Cliff Lee...a huge, top level prospect guy, which is the value of a recent cy young winner...but Greinke has only been that guy for 1 year, and he wasn't that guy in 2010. Would you give up Beckham, for example, for a guy with a 4.72 ERA in the 2nd half of 2010?

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Oct 19, 2010 -> 12:40 PM) So the question becomes..should we sell high on the kid this offseason? Kinda like DLS? A lot of you seem to think he is playing above his capabilities right now. Like was said above...he's still a guy who is young, didn't hit all that well at single A ball, and is only performing in the AFL. Just like almost any guy at A ball, if someone offers you a legit piece in exchange for him, you jump at the deal and if he turns into a star, you hope you're happy with the guy you got.

2010 ALCS: Rangers vs. Yankees
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Oct 19, 2010 -> 12:03 PM) Would the Rangers Giants be the least watched world series ever No one should care about world series ratings at all. Even the people who work at Fox shouldn't. Baseball, unlike other sports, doesn't get a high percentage of its cash from the end of year tournament. Its tournament is smaller, and the bulk of the league's revenue comes from getting people into ballparks. Getting new teams into the World Series (usually) provides a huge boost to the fanbase of the teams that make and win it. On top of that, you get a whole new market for merchandise sales. Even if you don't have the precious, precious, precious NYC market watching the series at a high share, you still get a win.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 19, 2010 -> 09:37 AM) Tom Tancredo is polling at 35%. Wow. It's worth noting that there is essentially no other right leaning candidate of note in that race, as the official GOP has fully pulled its support from the Tea Party candidate in the race, Dan Maes. He's the equally crazy guy worried that bike sharing programs are an illegal U.N. imposed restriction on our freedom or something like that. Unless you're in the Tea Party, Tancredo is basically the "non-democrat" in the race.

NBA Predictions - (Predictabulls Part II)
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 19, 2010 -> 12:36 AM) VERY early prediction: Thunder vs. Heat in 2012 NBA finals, and it goes 7 games. The Heat machine will be at peak level in year 2 IMO (Dwyane Wade is going to fall apart physically a lot earlier than most people seem to realize, probably by year 3 or 4), but the Thunder are just going to be such a force by June of 2012. You're predicting that there will be a 2012 NBA Finals?
