Reinsdorf clears the air.
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 07:24 PM) By whose account is that, everything that has been reported about him since coming over here is how his defense has improved and I think I remember him winning an award for his defense last year as well. Yes, he won the defensive award for catching in the AA league last year. That doesn't, though, mean that everyone is 100% convinced he'll stick at catcher. Plus, there's a lot of parts to being a catcher. Not making errors, blocking balls in the dirt, throwing, calling a game. be terrible at just one of those and you might well not stick at catcher even if you win awards at the rest. Personally...I think he either winds up at catcher or in AAA.

Reinsdorf clears the air.
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 07:18 PM) Too bad we don't have anything to trade. Flowers is a first baseman (by most accounts) stuck at catcher. Danks is awful offensively. Dayan's splits are suspect. Mitchell is injured. Hudson is the only one with trade value that could help (and help being the operative word) net a solid bat. You could trade Beckham.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 07:20 PM) Again, another strawman. So, you'd argue that the way this should be dealt with is the way the Valdez was dealt with; 20 years of court battles and about $8000/person payout 20 years later to the survivors?

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 07:11 PM) You want to just continue to wait for players to perform. I've seen this song and dance for the past decade. I'd like to see them try and get passed win 82 and go for 90 more proactively than "we'll, these players will turn it around" So, you're ready to replace Quentin and trade Beckham to bring in his replacement? Unless you're ready to do that, then you're protecting the same song and dance.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 07:11 PM) Exactly. That is a cheap tactic that isn't at all true. Its a strawman at its finest. Kap is very proud. Yup. "I dissent, I don't think invading Iraq, losing several thousand american lives and spending a couple trillion dollars is a good idea". "I dissent, I think the Vuvuzela is a great invention". "I dissent, BP has every right to destroy the gulf coast". You have every right to dissent. Just don't expect to avoid ridicule when you're defending an oil spill from those horrible fishermen and bed and breakfast owners.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 07:01 PM) no, that's the exact opposite of what will help. These guys might pull it together, might not, it's 2.5 months in, this team is probably going to be pretty similar to what you'll get. Fix it now, or hold a press conference and say "we are comfortable putting together .500 teams." Huh?

Vici...eh, never mind, he'll be benched. Rios.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 06:58 PM) So yes, our pitching (strength) is back. Now what? Fix Quentin and Beckham and you've got a shot. Or replace Beckham with Viciedo somehow. Adding a DH would be nice, but it's not going to help if Quentin hits like Kotsay the rest of the year.

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 06:57 PM) lets hope Peavy feels alright after going the distance but you gotta respect the guy, sore shoulder and all, but he goes out and gives everything he's got. You can see while throwing the last few pitches and walking off the mound, his face is grimacing a bit. but i am glad that he's able to finish up what he started. I think he was just pissed about walking a guy.

YET ANOTHER WHITE SOX WINNER
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 06:56 PM) One of the main reasons for calling up Viciedo was to give Vizquel significant rest. He's playing WAY too much right now, the guy is 43 and not physically capable of playing everyday. He was brought in here to be a part time player and that's the role he'll find himself in very soon. Repeat that to me later this week when our manager has benched Vicideo 6 games out of 7 to keep Vizquel in the 2 hole. Really Kal, you know the reality as much as I do. The only way Ozzie is resting Vizquel right now is if Herm Schneider tells him to.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 06:54 PM) Its the tactic. Dissent isn't patriotic anymore, it means you are a corporate shill. "I dissent! The Federal Government should be doing all it can to encourage oil spills. It is our only way to protect us from the dolphins! And they're coming, we all know they're coming!"

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 06:52 PM) Oh, yea, I'm "defending them" all over the place by mocking our sit-n-spin Comrade new Chairman of the Board of BP. Show me, still, where I've "defended" BP. If that's not defending BP's virgin honor from that horrible rapist Obama, I don't know what is.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 06:52 PM) I wish they would have sent Beckham down to AAA for a couple of weeks and let Nix start at 2B instead. Nix was just awful and it didn't matter where they were playing him. Nix made Beckham's bat not look as bad.

YET ANOTHER WHITE SOX WINNER
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 06:51 PM) True. But his defense is to a degree offsetting his mediocre offense. Anybody who wants to move Beckham to SS needs a serious reality check. I want to move Beckham to Charlotte, not to SS. Today's suggested move: Viciedo to starting at 3b, Vizquel to 2b, beckham to Charlotte. Viciedo's going to be lucky to get a game a week ahead of Vizquel if Omar only has 3b to play at, and hell, Vizquel's outhitting Beckham by a lot lately. Plus, calling up Viciedo and benching him is as stupid of a move as you could possibly come up with.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 06:49 PM) It should be considered... just as long as people sign on the dotted line to not sue the government for the cancer. Make BP pay. Comrade Barackus, Chairman of BP, says "make it so". so, are you still telling people how you have never defended BP?

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 06:46 PM) I'd say Jake Peavy is healthy. Offense, not so much. We started the game with 0 guys with an OPS over .800 and 2 guys with OPS over .700 in the lineup.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 06:35 PM) How exactly did the White Sox f*** up Beckham? You can come up with lots of possible things they could have done wrong, but I'm not sure what they should have done different. Walker doing too much to alter his swing, Walker doing too little to correct the flaws in his swing as they were creeping in earlier this year, the Sox moving him to 3b last year then moving him to 2b this year, the Sox bringing him up last year before he'd been in AAA for more than 2 weeks, etc. Still, I can't point to anything I'd have done differently except sending him down now.
