  1. Clayton Richard with a 4.08 ERA in the NL pitching in San Diego isn't anything to write home about. Poreda is a AA reliever for a couple seasons in a Row. Russell got sent down, as you note.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 7, 2010 -> 11:22 PM) This is reminiscent of the "we don't need no f--king milk and cookies in the locker room" rant by Tony Muser against the born-again Christians like Sweeney and Randa in the Royals' clubhouse. Thome soft? Gimme an f'in break. He was soft on Blackburn's fastball in Game 163 into the shrubbery, that's for sure. He has put up the same exact numbers he puts up every year, 1000+ OPS, any surprise? I really think that his son's comments ripping Thome will have some blowback and a residual affect as the season continues to slide away. No one cares about Oney Guillen. If they care about Oney Guillen...they should be DFA'd for being idiots.
  3. Visit the game summary post at Soxnet.
  4. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 7, 2010 -> 11:16 PM) guillen's bullpen management along with the simply stupid rationale that pierre and vizquel should bat 1 and 2 should be reason enough to fire him Does Pierre get another AB? I want to see an 0/6.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2010 -> 11:15 PM) I'm actually getting optimistic that something will happen soon, either it be with him or Walker. Our record and attendance is severely disappointing to Reinsdorf. It's getting close enough to memorial day that the clock has to be ticking.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2010 -> 11:10 PM) That Putz fastball is meat, he needs to rely on his splitter. Problem is, you can't throw a splitter without a fastball to keep guys honest. Especially if you can't get ahead in the count with it.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 7, 2010 -> 11:06 PM) Um, you have legal immigrants now. You also have legal workers. Why isn't that happening now? Because the quotas are way, way, way too low to satisfy the demand for workers or to keep families from being split apart. And since the quotas are so restrictive, there is very little reason for a legal immigrant to feel offended by an illegal immigrant taking a job. Really, when we get right down to it, that is problem #1 here. It's like Quentin's bat. Everything else that looks bad stems from that gigantic, overarching issue. When Reagan issued his amnesty in the 80's, that was the problem, his amnesty was a band-aid. Border fences are a band-aid. Fining employers is a band-aid. You fix that problem in an intelligent way...and the other problems will nearly correct themselves.
  8. Seriously...who the Hell is grilling at this hour? It's making me so damn jealous, I can't eat solid foods yet!
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 7, 2010 -> 10:59 PM) Just because you have a worker program, doesn't mean everyone who wants to come to the US will get to do so. There will still be people who either fall after the quotas, don't qualify for other reasons, or just aren't willing/able to go through all of the bureaucratic paperwork do so. Those people will still stream into the US illegally, because there will still be people wanting to save a buck to make a buck. And now suddenly you're dealing with half a million people rather than 12 million people...and instead of a thriving illegal immigrant community, you've made the illegal immigrants the enemy of the legal immigrants because they're taking the guest-workers jobs. So, you suddenly have people willing to report those businesses.
  10. QUOTE (TitoMB @ May 7, 2010 -> 11:00 PM) Yeah, and Rios' and AJ's were solo shots. AJ's led off an inning too. Not much you can do to get a runner on before that.
  11. QUOTE (TitoMB @ May 7, 2010 -> 10:57 PM) So, 100% of our runs have come off the homer tonight.. eventually, we're gonna need to get some runners on so we can turn these solo shots into 2-3 run blasts. Kotsay's was a 2 run homer.
  12. QUOTE (TitoMB @ May 7, 2010 -> 10:57 PM) Woo, the game is finally on CSN. I get to watch the end! We apologize.
  13. 2008, I'd feel like 75% sure that Q would at least double here.
  14. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 7, 2010 -> 10:54 PM) If you just mean a reliever, I trust Putz. If you mean a lefty....then no, we don't have a replacement. But either way... Closer>Set-up man You know the sad thing? We'd probably see Thornton a lot less if he was the closer right now. Especially when you factor in how many leads we'd be blowing.
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 7, 2010 -> 10:53 PM) Santos and Putz. Against LH hitters?
  16. Mmmm, someone is grilling outside. Who's grilling here at 10:50 p.m.?
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 7, 2010 -> 10:47 PM) I'm saying even if you put a program into place, there would still be people who didn't go through the program who came to the United States and worked illegally for less money, because there would be no reason not to. In other words, without incentive to not do it, it will still happen. An incentive not to do it...like a higher wage if you don't. You can get rid of 90% of the problem with a positive incentive. Anyway...I'm not silly enough to say that the law shouldn't be enforced at all. It's really just not necessary to spend tens of billions of dollars doing so though.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2010 -> 10:46 PM) I don't think he's an asshole at all, in the way that someone like Milton Bradley is. I think he's just wild, and our clubhouse led by Konerko, Thome, and Dye didn't like it. There was clearly more going on than that.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2010 -> 10:45 PM) Hit it high and let it fly! I blame you for that one.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 7, 2010 -> 10:42 PM) And they are hired because they are willing to work for less than they can hire American's for. So, you'd argue that given the option of working for a higher wage or a lower wage, they'd choose the lower one, because that's what would be required for people to choose to continue being illegal immigrants if the option to become legal was offered.
  21. Ah, the old MMS. As corruptly run as FEMA for the last 8 years, just less well known.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 7, 2010 -> 10:32 PM) That is exactly what people are doing now! No it's not...because if they want to come here and work, there is no legal means for them to do so. There are more jobs available than there are immigration slots available. Their only choice is to do so illegally.
