  1. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 7, 2010 -> 03:10 PM) Nix should be traded though. He will not get any kind of shot here. Which is exactly why no one is trading for him, because its entirely possible that he'll get DFA'd at some point. Anyway...he's in the position a lot of guys who struggle when they first come up wind in...he needs to be patient, wait, and either Beckham's going to get sent down, someone will get hurt, or he can wind up on the FA market soon enough.
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ May 7, 2010 -> 02:51 PM) Nix isn't that much better and may rather have Omar's glove out there. Nix might be better...if he was actually hitting.
  3. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ May 7, 2010 -> 01:04 PM) I wonder what would have been had he not broken his wrist... He was in a great groove to start off the season last year until his foot acted up.
  4. Running a surge of electricity across a person's body with the point of causing extreme pain isn't?
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 7, 2010 -> 01:00 PM) QFT Because if there's one thing that we know works to keep people off the field, it's torture. There wasn't anyone on the field the night after the tasering in Philly.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 7, 2010 -> 12:55 PM) Its all about their pitching. If Carpender goes down again, this could be interesting. If Carpenter goes down again, I'd still take the Cards by a long amount over the Cubs.
  7. It really does amaze me that the Magna Carta has again become controversial.
  8. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ May 7, 2010 -> 10:22 AM) Looks like the Big 12 and the Pac 10 could be making an alliance soon, and eventually merge into a super conference. The conference would cover about 31% of the households in America with the Big 12 at 16% and the Pac 10 at 15%. Would seem to be a very smart move with the way the Big 10 and SEC are looking to expand. And then, the Big 10, SEC, and ACC could merge...and then we could just call them the AFC and NFC.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 7, 2010 -> 12:30 PM) The fun part is that we are 24 hours out, and we still have no idea what happened. Just great work by those regulating bodies that are supposed to be watching the system. It's just the free market, unencumbered. That's what you guys tell us is the best.
  10. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 7, 2010 -> 12:07 PM) Anyone who runs onto the field should be tasered, in my opinion. It's the only way people will stop doing it. You're kidding right? You do realize how that Philly video is just going to be encouraging people.
  11. QUOTE (Brian @ May 7, 2010 -> 12:07 PM) Holy crap, Cub fans acting like this kid is their Albert Pujols. I'm annoyed already. We did that last year with Beckham, and look how that's turned out.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 7, 2010 -> 12:05 PM) I know it may shock you, but that event wasn't something anyone wanted to have happen, in the way it happened. I know, I'm being sarcastic in blaming GS. But seriously...why would they have gotten rid of those curbs in 2007? Were they convinced the market would never go down again? With the way computers have evolved since 1987 and the amount of people and money now in that system, I'd think they'd be even more important to avoid panicked automated selling.
  13. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 7, 2010 -> 11:57 AM) Obama just bookmarked that graph for 2012 If you extend that graph...he'll be getting like 4 million new jobs a month by then.
  14. Yeah, the President only has so much impact on job numbers. Still, after a legitimately positive month...this graph looks even better.
  15. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 7, 2010 -> 11:51 AM) PK is the team leader. Now I await the inevitable call for him to be traded while his value is high Hell...if the rest of the bats can't get their heads out of their tails, there's no reason to hold him past the deadline.
  16. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 7, 2010 -> 11:46 AM) Mark my words, there will be some regulation put in place to slow the rate at which computers can make trades. As with any other wall street regulations, I'll believe they'll get through the wholly-owned wall street subsidiary that is the U.S. Senate when I see it. Although, the fact that there's already a bill on the floor could help make it possible...but there's probably not going to be time for a full investigation before the final votes come.
  17. Remember that high-frequency trading scam I was whining about earlier this year, where GS was making money by having its servers closer to the NYSE so it could make money by seeing other trades coming and adjusting the price beforehand? It sounds like those trades are coming into the crosshairs after yesterday.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 7, 2010 -> 11:29 AM) I find it incredibly unlikely that those two keep hitting near .200, nor will Pierre for that matter. Every time I think Beckham might be seeing the ball well (Royals series) he follows it up with a 3 K night like last night. Juan Pierre is regularly hitting the ball harder than Carlos Quentin.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 7, 2010 -> 11:18 AM) Its not just a function of hitting. He still has 24 K against 2 BB, and he needs to improve his plate discipline. And having video of himself flailing at balls 6 feet out of the strikezone in the big leagues in September might help.
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 7, 2010 -> 11:19 AM) Someone make him not suck. I figured that was the same thing.
  21. Well, if we're giving up and replacing Carlos Quentin, a RH bat could be useful.
