Former NFL Star Lawrence Taylor Arrested
Balta1701 replied to BigSqwert's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Plus, if he's arrested and charged in a criminal case, that means that the DA/Grand Jury believes that a crime happened. -
QUOTE (DBAHO @ May 6, 2010 -> 10:43 AM) Johnson signed a 1 year deal with the Yanks didn't he? He'd be the one guy I'd really target to replace Konerko if we decide to move on from next season. He's hitting .171 and keeps missing games with back stiffness.

Sandoval wants Sox to move out of Camelback Ranch

QUOTE (bmags @ May 6, 2010 -> 10:25 AM) well, I'd rather do that. If you want a boycott to be successful, it needs 2 things. First, it needs a specific, achievable goal (i.e. end apartheid laws, recognize MLK Day, stop carrying Glenn Beck's show, whatever). It can't be something vague like "respect other religions" or "don't hate whatever ethnic group you want to hate today". Second, it needs specific actions that average people can take without dramatically hurting their own livelihood. Like, not spending money in Arizona. -

QUOTE (bmags @ May 6, 2010 -> 10:01 AM) the thing is, i'm fairly certain the proof you do exist provision is going to be removed. Should we merely hold it against Arizonans that despite being explained what that law would do, they still support it? No. -

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ May 6, 2010 -> 09:38 AM) Seriously, I think these sorts of calls to action in response to bad immigration policy are exactly what short-sighted Arizona legislators and their narrow-minded constituents need to get hit hard with, even if there is a bit of political grandstanding to it. Nothing like a threat to the state economy to get them to revisit their decisions. OTOH, if I'm Bud Selig...I've already had people work the issue and tell me what the last possible deadline date is that I could announce a move of the 2011 all star game and what would have to be done to make it happen...on the off chance that after enforcement starts the Arizona situation turns real ugly. Anywho, if I were driving through Arizona again, I'd fill up the gas tank in Nevada and try to make it through the state without spending any money I didn't have to. Or I'd just take the longer route north. -

Anyway...the right move for baseball currently is to follow the lead of the NBA. Let your people make statements, let your ownership/unions make statements, maybe even be aggressive in pushback/lobbying, but don't actively do anything just yet...wait until you see how the law is enforced. If its enforced in the way its written, you won't have to wait all that long before you can say that Arizona fired the first shot, by pulling over Pujols or arresting and deporting Adalberto Ibarra or something like that. Moving out of Arizona would be a huge commitment. Long term, if that law stays on the books and you start having repeated instances of your hispanic players being harassed or even taken into custody, then you start thinking about it. -
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ May 5, 2010 -> 10:29 PM) Spacing the floor and having a dynamic guard attack the basket doesn't make an offensive system similar. Almost all offenses do that when they have a playmaker like the ones you listed. Hell, the Cavs space the floor with Jamison, Williams, and Parker and then have LeBron attack. Is that offense similar to D'Antoni's? Also, Calipari's teams have never played that fast of pace. They play faster than the majority of college basketball teams but they don't play appreciably faster than the average college team and are well behind teams such as Carolina that really play up tempo basketball. The question I care about is...what happens in his offense if you have both a play-making point guard and 2 guys who need to play down low (i.e. Bosh and Noah) or if you have 2 guys who are dynamic in attacking the basket (i.e. Rose/Wade or Rose/James).

For a moment, I read the thread title and thought "Why is the Giants 3b caring so much about the White Sox". -
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ May 6, 2010 -> 12:00 AM) the balance we lack so far is that we haven't played good small ball. we haven't suffered for power, as we are 2nd in the AL in homers. dye doesn't fix a problem that we have. We're also leading the league in stolen bases. I thought that was small ball.

QUOTE (hogan873 @ May 6, 2010 -> 07:20 AM) Rios looks like he's very comfortable at the plate...a big improvement over last year. He's playing like the player we expected, and maybe even a little better. He's batting over .300, and a few HRs, and has been good in situational/pressure situations. Plus, he's a legitimate center fielder, something the Sox haven't had in quite a while. The Blue Jays even expected him to show more pop than what they got out of him.
-
QUOTE (hogan873 @ May 6, 2010 -> 08:52 AM) Okay, so Freddy looked passable? I believe that he's doing a fine job as the 5th starter. Sure, he struggles and sweats, but he only gave up 2 runs (a lot of hits, though) and gave the Sox a chance to win the game. As a 5th starter...if 2 out of every 3 starts you give are quality starts...yeah, that's fine.
-
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 6, 2010 -> 08:20 AM) well depends on how you want to define that, but if media reports are true he did turn down some extra from at least the Angels, I just don't remember if it was years or $$ at this point. But the tax rate in CA for the upper level is, IIRC, higher than it is in Illinois, so that cuts into the difference.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 6, 2010 -> 05:00 AM) But I don't expect AR to make it to #13 anyway. Could people be expecting him to drop because of his representation?

No team needs him more than the Mariners.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 5, 2010 -> 05:28 PM) Garland was a myth of a "good" pitcher for most of his Sox career. He was really an average fourth starter or great fifth starter with the exception of the World Series season. In the AL, an average 4th/5th starter puts up an ERA of over 5.5. An average #2 starter puts up an ERA in the 4.25-4.5 range. If he's your #4-#5 starter, you simply have a really, really good pitching staff. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 5, 2010 -> 05:13 PM) But Garland wasn't very good in 2006....well, the entire rotation regressed and the workload caught up with them, at least that was the theory at the time in August/September of that year. You said "Garland regressed big time" before he was traded. This is simply untrue. Even his supposed terrible 2006 season he put up a better ERA, WHIP, ERA+, and W-L record than he did 2002-2004. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 5, 2010 -> 05:05 PM) Garland regressed big-time before we parted ways with him. Garland put up a 4.23 ERA, 111 ERA+, and 208.1 innings in 2007 before he was traded. -
Beckham has his swing back. I hope.

QUOTE (jasonxctf @ May 5, 2010 -> 11:08 AM) when does Joe say you should take away his citizenship rights, before or after he's found guilty of a crime? According to the bill he's introducing tomorrow, all it takes is a declaration from the state department.

QUOTE (Tex @ May 5, 2010 -> 04:51 PM) And who would be working those jobs? I already saw the local shrimp industry destroyed when the DoL sharply reduced the number of temporary VISAs they would allow. For some reason there just wasn't enough epople willing to spend 10 months on a shrimp boat in the Gulf of Mexico. Well, we've found another way to kill the gulf of mexico shrimp industry. That ought to help with the immigration problem, right?

By the way, congratulations to the Sox and Cubs on being an official sponsor of the Louisiana oil spill disaster!

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 5, 2010 -> 04:43 PM) Offensively? You're right. They've got more firepower. But pitching dominates October. And I don't care what Rauch is doing right now. I would be scared out of my mind as a Twins fan if Rauch is called upon to protect a 1-run lead against offensive juggernauts like the Yankees and Rays. And you believe in Rafael Soriano more?

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 5, 2010 -> 04:29 PM) Doubtful. They still don't have the rotation depth of NY/Tampa. In the playoffs, rotation depth matters less.
