  1. Why would another country want to accept a convicted terrorist who is no longer a citizen of that country?
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2010 -> 10:21 AM) I don't think it matters, because I can't see us offering arbitration and risking another large contract, unless it looks like he is going to make an assload this offseason, which I don't see happening. Really, if Konerko puts up 35 HR this season, you couldn't see the Sox risking him accepting a 1 year, $12 million deal?
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2010 -> 10:23 AM) He was really bad there last year too. Maybe if he went back and played everyday at AAA it would be one thing, but what I have seen him do over there is ugly. And he has no minor league options left.
  4. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 5, 2010 -> 09:59 AM) I honestly don't see why that's such an insane idea. I suspect you are a terrorist. You are now no longer a citizen. No, you have no ability to contest this in court, and now you've lost your right to prove your innocence beyond a reasonable doubt because you're no longer a citizen. Goodbye.
  5. Of course...we could overhaul the ID theft laws, but that would annoy the banks, so that can't be done.

    Moving

Where do you work? What kind of transportation costs are you willing to bear? How much are you looking to spend on housing? Looking to rent or buy?
  7. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 5, 2010 -> 08:29 AM) Rick Perry blames God for massive oil leak: Of course...Governor Perry doesn't consider that this might be God saying "stop drilling!"
  8. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ May 5, 2010 -> 08:56 AM) The pro-drilling folks are scrambing for sure. For them the worst thing that could happen is America could actually pay attention to what is going on and finally give a damn. Sadly...there's reason to think this is a great boon for the current dirty energy industries. Suddenly, people who might have said "ok, fine, you can drill if you give me a legitimate comprehensive bill" are questioning whether that's a compromise they'd be willing to make.
  9. Good to see that the no-fly list still doesn't work.
  10. Does that mean he lost the primary in Indiana yesterday?
  11. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 4, 2010 -> 08:32 PM) I know, those evil mother f***ing corporations. /oops, not the filibuster. I can't wait until they decide to slow Soxtalk down on your connection unless you pay an extra $10/month. Then the Filibuster is mine, all mine!
  12. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 4, 2010 -> 06:39 PM) It's now more of an organizational philosophy then it is a Buehrle thing, same with the cutter, remember when Torres came up to start, and he was throwing at the same pace? It's trickled down throughout the system. IMO, it's an organizational philosophy because of MB.
  13. QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 4, 2010 -> 06:34 PM) The flaw with this logic is you are applying the resources of big oil (billions upon billions) to that of regular everyday companies who hire these people, which deal in millions (if they're lucky). While your point may hold water for billion dollar corporations with money to burn (like WalMart), these aren't the types of companies that [usually] tend to hire illegals in the first place. If/when they do, they get caught, they know they get caught, so they're usually smart enough to avoid it altogether. The target here is the companies that DO cut corners and look for such illegals to vastly underpay, and these types of companies and/or individuals cannot typically afford to pay 50,000$ fines. I've gotten the impression that a lot of the jobs that immigrants take are in the construction and food processing industries, and whether we want to admit it or not, the days of the family farm are long since gone.
  14. One thing worth noting...we might not have Jake Peavy in our rotation without Buehrle. We were able to put together a package for Peavy centered around a LH starter who was having success in the big leagues by emulating Buehrle's pitching fast/throwing strikes routine.
  15. The Steve Jobs email reply generator.
  16. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) Well that's cool, public jobs outpay private jobs now Here's an analysis of what happens to that "study" when you take education into account.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2010 -> 05:55 PM) I actually said this years ago. If you want to really solve the problem, take away the incentive to come here illegally. If it were my ball of wax, I would institute massive fines to employers who were caught with illegals on their payroll. Call it like $50,000 per instance. Then make sure that there is a level of enforcement, unlike most governmental regulators in this country. There will be no more talk about rounding everyone up and sending them back. The problem will solve itself to a large degree. Having to pay a few tens of billions of dollars to clean up an oil spill has prevented oil spills. Potentially winding up on the hook for billions in a gender discrimination suit definitely prevented that from being a problem.
  18. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 4, 2010 -> 05:49 PM) NBA fine forthcoming? They reportedly cleared this with the league before making any statements.
  19. -Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver, in a statement announcing that his team will wear their "Los Suns" jerseys for game 2 of their series with the Spurs.
  20. Pujols has an option that will be picked up as long as he can still walk.
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 4, 2010 -> 05:17 PM) Now if you want to say, over a period of years, that these sorts of events may be more likely to occur... then I'd agree. Well, I'd argue this was an example of something that went from impossible to possible, but I'll leave it at that. I agree 95% with what you're saying.
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 4, 2010 -> 05:07 PM) OK... explain to me how that particular event - not the tendency for more things to occur more frequently, but this INSTANCE - was directly caused by global warming, and nothing else. Anyone else feel free to do the same for the DC snows, and how it was evidence that global warming DOESN'T exist. Because the thing that made it possible was the record warm temperatures combined with high humidity. Cut the temperature even slightly, less water in the air, this storm becomes vastly weaker.
