QUOTE (jphat007 @ May 2, 2010 -> 02:25 PM) We have way too many holes on this team. Gonzalez isn't going to suddenly make us a contender. IMO, we'd be a contender already if we didn't have 3 SP's with ERA's up somewhere above 6 and a 4th above 4.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 2, 2010 -> 02:22 PM) On the rumor... this team has played lots of very close games, so I'm in the camp that believes a small change could make a big difference. I hope we get this done. i seriously doubt it was happening a few weeks ago, and then Howard set the bar at >$25 million a season.

Kot-Say something bad about him now!

QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 2, 2010 -> 01:29 PM) I think this would be a terrific use of Santos. And if they're thinking "In a year, this guy replaces Jenks..."

QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2010 -> 02:15 PM) He really is just an awful fit for the Sox. Yeah. We really need fewer LH batters who can take a walk.

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ May 2, 2010 -> 05:13 AM) one thing is for sure, THE BULLS WILL ADD A BIG NAME FREE AGENT THIS SUMMER. the organization basically wasted this season by not resigning Gordon and trading away salmons mid season to make a run at a big name player this off season, if Paxon and Forman fails to come away with a big name, it would really upset the fans and Jerry Reinsdorf and would really guarantee them a one way ticket out of Chicago, and most importantly, it would be humiliating to the great city of Chicago. so expect a great player to team up with Noah and Rose next season, and there is definitely something to be excited about this summer. There's still a possible issue even if you're wrong. The Bulls have landed a "big name Free Agent" when they've had the money to offer a max deal before. But not every big name free agent winds up being worth their money. Assuming Wade stays healthy, Lebron, Wade, and Bosh are almost certain to be worth their contract. But if you whiff on those 3...then you wind up giving a ton of money to what is likely going to be a 2nd tier guy because you're out of a job if you don't land a free agent addition. So, you dump a $16 million deal on Amare and he spends 1/2 of the deal hurt. Ditto Boozer. Or Joe Johnson, and he's decent but in general overpaid for the production you get out of him. What happens? Your team is suddenly up against the luxury tax once it has to sign Noah next year, and JR looks and sees a team that isn't good enough to get past the #4 spot in the East so why should he go into tax territory? Great example of this effect is the Pistons last year. They had money to spend so they signed 2 of the better FA's on the market to big deals. Both deals looked awful at the time and look worse now.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 2, 2010 -> 01:51 PM) But aren't his minor league defensive metrics "solid" or at least 2nd quintile in RF? I think I read that somewhere...once upon a time. A lot of the modern defensive metrics are based on video evaluation though, and that quality video doesn't exist for a lot of minor league games.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ May 2, 2010 -> 01:44 PM) The guy hitting over .300 with a .400 OBP, and 10 SB obviously. Pierre just stole his 10th. Do we have anyone at all at the 2 other plateaus?

I thought Juan Pierre forgot how to make an infield hit.

QUOTE (lostfan @ May 1, 2010 -> 06:35 PM) Ok, I'll play here - give me 5 reasons to be positive about the falling-off-the-cliff economy from 2009. I'll go 6 instead of 5. Wells Fargo Goldman Sachs Bank of America Citibank JP Morgan Chase Wachovia

QUOTE (lostfan @ May 1, 2010 -> 06:22 PM) A long time ago, like in the 50s, my grandfather lost his job but they gave him a decent severance package that had a lot of stocks, I guess there were a lot of industrial companies in it. He left them alone and re-invested all his dividends until he died, then my grandmother didn't do anything with them either, so after 50, 60 years, these companies grew a lot they ended up with a ton more. So my grandmother gives me the BP stocks now and then but she tells me I'm not allowed to do anything other than re-invest, until she dies, then I can do whatever I want (but I'll probably just do what she did). You should keep in mind the fact that the world only has so much oil. By the time we're retiring...

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ May 2, 2010 -> 01:31 PM) It says he's 1-1 on gameday? Correct. Singled up the middle on his first at bat (ground ball that Cano couldn't handle), moved to 2nd on a wild pitch, stranded at 2b.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 1, 2010 -> 05:43 PM) We can. That's kind of the point I've been trying to make. The NDoP can be praying to whatever you believe or don't believe in, can't it? You can't pray if you don't believe in prayer.

QUOTE (kane0730 @ May 1, 2010 -> 04:35 PM) hawk has found his new Gomez, Gardner!!! Well, Gardner is killing right now.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 1, 2010 -> 09:06 AM) Isn't he a lefty? Because that sucks, because we could really use more lefty's right now, even though he crapped out this year. Yeah. Would have cost us a lot to keep him. Looks like it wasn't the biggest loss ever.

QUOTE (vandy125 @ May 1, 2010 -> 04:30 PM) I'm curious, which religion is government endorsing or establishing by having a NDOP? With prayer being so general as to convey a word or thought to God or a god, you can pray to anything that you like. Whatever your god is (yourself, White Sox, sports, Athena) go right ahead. So why do I have to be encouraged to engage in a religious activity, regardless of whatever deity we're talking about?
