  1. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 7, 2010 -> 08:29 PM) Swisher hit a three-run bomb off Beckett. Having himself a year. Really? Like a week ago his OPS was under .800. He's having himself a week.
  2. That's 2 innings here with no baserunners in about 33% less time than it took for 1 baserunner-free inning of Red Sox-Yankees earlier.
  3. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 7, 2010 -> 08:22 PM) Your campaign against Jayson Nix is very odd. No one is arguing that he’s a world beater. The only argument for Jayson Nix is that he has certain strengths that Ozzie refuses to not only recognize but use properly. The fact is, is that Jayson Nix was regarded as the “messiah of defense” coming out of the minors. Like most young players he’s had trouble adjusting to the major leagues. That being said, he’s certainly shown enough to play before Omar at this point in both players respective careers. Really, I don't find it odd at all. I find myself really not caring, and being somewhat startled by how fully people can be overwhelmed with adoration for 1 guy hitting under .200 compared to another.
  4. Yeesh, i checked the Boston/Cleveland score and missed like 2 outs.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2010 -> 08:21 PM) I can't believe Vizquel continues to bat 2nd. Yes you can. You'll never convince me you're surprised by that.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 7, 2010 -> 08:10 PM) Yes, just because you're young (see Josh Fields, Chris Getz or Mark Teahen or Jayson Nix) doesn't make you good at anything in particular.
  7. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 7, 2010 -> 07:58 PM) The answer is that you play the young guy, because the older guy has nothing to prove and offers no long-term value to the team. You see what you have in a guy like Nix, Vizquel is a know commodity. Unless you also believe that the older guy is an upgrade on defense.
  8. QUOTE (Tex @ May 7, 2010 -> 07:57 PM) But the Bill of Rights prevents suspects to be held without bail for a minor crime. So? It prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures too. You know darn well the only amendments that count when a Democrat is in office are 2 and 10.
  9. QUOTE (knightni @ May 7, 2010 -> 07:49 PM) "Can't we all just get along?" If that happened, then there would be no reason to taze anyone, and what fun would that be?
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 7, 2010 -> 07:49 PM) You don't think Nix earned the benefit of the doubt with his power numbers against LHP last year?? You'd really rather see Vizquel out there at age 43, probably in his final season....than Jayson Nix? Hmmmm.....yes, I know Marcum's a RHP, but does it really feel like Omar Vizquel can go on a hot streak offensively? Against RHP last year, Nix put up a .621 OPS, Vizquel a .577. Against LHP last year, Nix put up a .822 OPS. Vizquel, a 1.029. (only 33 at bats). Frankly, there really is no good answer here. You're arguing that I should care about what brand of bullet I get shot in the head with. Either way, the result is the same.
  11. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 7, 2010 -> 06:11 PM) Maybe we will be out of it this year, but next season is a new battle altogether. I would hope we keep PK for at least another two years The only thing stopping you from reacquiring him after the season if you trade him is $.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 7, 2010 -> 07:00 PM) Let's not forget how completely ineffective Vizquel has been, while getting many many more at-bats than he deserves over Jayson Nix... However, let's forget how Nix hasn't done anything to earn any at bats either.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2010 -> 05:52 PM) Was it you or Kalapse that wrote the great blurb in the offseason about the winds at the Cell, and how it makes a slap hitter very ineffective? Bah, there's no way I can blame Juan Pierre's suckiness so far this season on "The winds". It's not like he's hitting .300 on the road.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2010 -> 05:50 PM) It's amazing that Juan Pierre would probably have one homer all season if he played with 200 foot fences. I wouldn't care one bit about that if he was racking up the singles.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 7, 2010 -> 03:44 PM) Its not like fans have ever attacked anyone before or anything... In that case, the use of force is fully appropriate. A good rule of thumb...think of the taser as a "Less lethal" weapon. If the offender is in a position where you'd consider shooting them even if you thought you didn't need to kill them, its use is appropriate. You wouldn't shoot a person for running out onto the field. You'd consider it if they made a dart at a player or they physically went after someone else on the field.
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 7, 2010 -> 03:30 PM) Its uncomfortable, but frankly, its less painful than OC spray, or being strongarmed, or beaten with a baton. If someone ran out on the field and was beaten with a baton, you would think of that as an appropriate response?
  17. Court records say she told Taylor she was 19. Age of consent in NY is 17. Prosecutors currently aren't saying whether Taylor would have had another means to know her age.
  18. QUOTE (chwhtsox @ May 7, 2010 -> 03:18 PM) not only is the electricity painful, when they detach the prongs it's just as painful if not more. And after a few dozen uses, you wind up hitting the guy who doesn't know he has an enlarged heart and you kill a fan on the field.
  19. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 7, 2010 -> 03:15 PM) A 4 pound difference is pretty big...... Bah, I don't feel like it is, especially if you weigh yourself at a different time each day (i.e. before or after a meal, before or after a bathroom break), or while wearing different clothes.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 7, 2010 -> 03:13 PM) I guess comedians can't handle being the butt of jokes? If so, that is a pretty sad statement. Yeah, I'm actually Conan O'Brien.
