MLB warns Ozzie, but no suspensions or fines.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 01:28 PM) If he'd went off publicly, I'd have a problem with it. But he barely said anything of consequence, surely nothign we'll remember in a week As long as he pulls out of this slump.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 12:42 PM) On the contrary. Her thread is way bigger. Possibly a temporary phenomenon.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 10:33 AM) What year is the Volt supposed to be ready for production? 2011? Cuz if so, I'm going to start saving money for a down payment now. My current loan matures in 2011. First production models are supposed to roll out in late 2010, so a little over a year, give or take. It's worth noting also that they've been beaten to market in places; the Chinese have a similar vehicle already to market. It's also possible that the Volt may not be necessary for everyone; they've gone with a 40 mile battery pack. If your typical commute is 10 miles or less, that's overkill for you, you could save money by going with a vehicle that uses only a 10-20 mile battery pack.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 10:19 AM) How could you possibly think that this team, plus the talent waiting in the wings, will have a 2007-like season? I mean anything is possible, but every indication is that the team gets better next year. Heck even just doing the same would be a low end way to finish. But going 72-90? Simply because the team might have Pods in LF (meaning Rios in CF, CQ in RF, and Dye to DH I assume)? Well, in baseball anything is possible. If we're going to genuinely let one of Dye or Thome walk, then a key injury could really harm our lineup (Q?), and our bullpen worries me next year a lot. But it's really, really easy to make the case that the Sox could be a 95+ win team next year. Full seasons from Beckham, Peavy, Rios, hopefully Quentin, improvement on defense (Rios in CF, Alexei and Becks with more experience at their slots), Flowers presumably getting significant at-bats as the backup C, additional seasons under the belts of Danks and Floyd (hopefully no terrible starts for Floyd next year). Still some holes to be filled and the bullpen worries me, but there's no team in the Central set up for next year as well as us.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 10:12 AM) right, but if he is so valuable to other teams, why would we remove that value from ours? we NEED a SS, and we have a good one that can hit. I wouldnt give that up. Because we may have more than 1 of those, given Beckham's position in the lineup.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 08:55 AM) Because a Kenyan wants to kill my grandmother to win his racial holy war. In all seriousness...listen to the people yelling at these things. It's literally a combination of everything that 5% of the country has been yelling about. He's a terrorist! He's a Muslim! He's a Kenyan! He hates Jesus! He's a socialist! He's a communist! He wants to kill my grandmother! It's a classic scare tactic. You rile up a very small percentage, let them shout down everyone else and encourage them to do so, and suddenly the media is talking about how reform is on the ropes. It's worked. That's the simple answer about where this has come from; it doesn't matter how out there it is, as long as it works.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 08:50 AM) I just don't get it... why so indignant about a hyperbolic, hypothetical scenario that doesn't even exist? Because a Kenyan wants to kill my grandmother to win his racial holy war.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 07:09 AM) What's the word on Cabrera's hand/wrist? X Rays negative, contusion (bruise) to the hand/wrist, day to day. Probably miss a couple games if he legitimately couldn't swing at all last night.

For crying out loud Tex, couldn't you be bothered to set the rules before you started this mess?

Mark!

QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 08:43 AM) If people in California cared about their local teams as much, we'd be watching endless Dodgers/Giants highlights and analysis. No you wouldn't. The big thing against L.A. is the time difference. By the time those games are over, 1/2 the country is watching Conan or is asleep.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 08:42 AM) I have heard a few people trying to say "Palin's comment was exaggerated but not really that far off." Any possible explanation justifying that exaggeration (well, bald-faced lie, but I'm in a generous mood) is a moot point though, because that stuff already exists in the system we have now, it's just not transparent and called something else (rationing etc, even though rationing is already happening and always has been). Plus, this is under the assumption that a gov't takeover of the system is being proposed, which it's not. It's only evil if the government sits in a room and decides it. It's not evil if the private sector has panels that sit in a room and decide whether or not they're going to pay for people's treatment.

Crap, which way do we go?

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 08:27 AM) Mr. Hawking is one of the few lucky ones that avoid the death panels. Aka...anyone from the western world who doesn't have to deal with the American health care system.

Manny and Big Papi tested positive for steroids in 03
Balta1701 replied to LittleHurt05's topic in The Diamond Club
Bill Simmons finally gets up to write an article on this. It's not nearly as harsh as his post-Manny writing was; you can sort of feel some denial in there that he's trying to force back down.
