  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 03:19 PM) Any word on the other teams signing their top picks such as Strausburg? Strasbourg will be a headline article Monday either way.
  2. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 03:29 PM) Sure, if you're an idiot. Watch it folks.
  3. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 02:49 PM) Tried that already. Unless we succeeded though...
  4. QUOTE (GO CHI SOX! @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 02:19 PM) I dont think the Mets will want anything of value, just salary relief. Are the Mets really in a bad position financially? I mean, if there's a team out there that should be able to say "We'll pick up a portion of the salary but we want a legit future reliever in return" shouldn't that be a team that just opened a new stadium in NYC?
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 02:16 PM) Haha, that was an insane ALCS...gotta love all those complete games. How the Hell did that actually happen again? Anyway, thread derailed. So yeah, Wagner, LLR bullpen, solid. I complain not, but just like with Rios, I wouldn't want to give up anything that has even a reasonable shot of making the team in the next few years. If someone wants to give the Mets legit talent, then they've outbid me.
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 02:09 PM) It would really be great having three plus relievers to turn too. Hell, look at 2005 where the Sox had Cotts/Politte/Jenks to turn to. And Neal Cotts sat around in the bullpen saying "come on fellas, gather around and I will tell you a tale of what it is like to pitch in the ALCS"
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) Interesting, I agree. But when a guy with a site like that makes statements crediting scientists with supposed positions, and provides no citation whatsoever, to me that pretty much says "I am talking out of my ass" (the author of the site, not you). The guy is actually right though. We couldn't simply recreate the Apollo missions today if we wanted to. Why? Because no one is set up to do anything similar in terms of design or construction or materials. If you dumped a trillion dollars in to it, you could probably recreate it. Boeing would be thrilled. But that's about it. We'll get there pretty soon again, probably for a lot less money too.
  8. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 02:07 PM) I think some states could disappear for at least a week. Like Idaho. "Hey did you know that Idaho disappeared like a week ago?" "No s***". "No wonder I just paid $8 for a bag of potatoes".
  9. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 01:55 PM) I think with the addition of DeRosa (who was injured for about the first 2-3 weeks he was with the Cards) and Holliday, the Cards are a different team then they were before And Carpenter back.
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 02:06 PM) With the way off-days work in the post-season there really is little reason the Sox would need to use anyone in the pen other than Jenks/Thornton/Wagner (since they'd never be pitching more than 2 days in a row). Game 3 of the WS says hi.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 02:00 PM) Unless he's already cleared, which might be the case since at that point no one knew what Billy Wagner we'd be seeing (and really how healthy he was). If he hasn't, than I doubt he makes it through and at this point, Wagner would be a pipe-dream. If the Mets were smart, he was the first player they put on waivers to clear, so that he'd be tradeable if he got to the point that he was pitching.
  12. Does Oakland still sit near the top of the league in taking pitches/earning walks/OBP? If so, this could be a rough matchup for Jose if he can't get his stuff over the plate.
  13. There's a number of fairly simple debunkings of these supposed errors. Seriously, there is zero chance it was a hoax. We have the samples They're very cool. Unlike anything you would have expected had you not gone there. It taught us a ton that we wouldn't have known otherwise. We actually have images of the rover tracks from a recent orbiter. You can see where the things drove. The video/image anomalies are fairly easily explained.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 10:15 AM) But this will change over time, as will the map, as history shows. The interesting thing though is...the change from cycle to cycle seems to be decreasing somewhat, as people seem to cluster more with "Their own kind". It's not a hard and fast rule, but people who are left leaning keep tending to find ways to move to cities, California, NY, etc., people who are right leaning are finding suburban communities in the south to move to. The only trend that really seems to plausibly change that is the growing latino community.
  15. Kissing all of y'all good morning.
  16. I think that the dramatic shift in states used to be much more the norm. The "Constant 5 swing state" situation we're currently in where the same states are key in every election is, IIRC, much more unusual historically.
  17. I have no urge to find the thread, but John Edwards was the kid's father.
  18. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 08:11 PM) Oh? Is that right? Possibly.
  19. I don't want him to. I could certainly see them doing it though.
  20. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 07:54 PM) Jordan Danks is really struggling. His average continues to plummet after a 0-4 night with a BB and a K. He’s now at .253, and is definitely looking like a candidate to repeat AA next year. His BABIP in AA is now .325. He needs to cut down on the k's. That's the only solution. He's on what would be a 150+ k/year rate if he got a good MLB number (600) at bats.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 08:09 PM) My God, I cant' believe this thread has made it to 300 posts. now that's just silly.
  22. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 07:50 PM) Focker jumped in front of me again!! Good work Flax.
  23. Oh, and that total was before that last post.
