Power-hitting (HR leading) teams rarely make playoffs
Balta1701 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The problem with that article is obvious; did the team hitting the 2nd most home runs make the playoffs? What about the 3rd? At what level do home runs go from being bad to being good? Or could it possibly be there's another related factor, like pitching? The Sox didn't lead the league in HR in 2005, but still hit 200 of them. -

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 01:52 PM) If Thome's back acts up in a major way next year, we lose a lot of thump in the lineup this way. We'd be forced to turn to Kotsay in a bigger role than we want him for. Though such an occurrence could pave the way for Flowers to be playing every day as DH and catcher against lefties. Were he to be ready of course. You could say the same thing about Dye's legs, Quentin's wrist, Konerko's hand, etc. You really can only have so much depth. -
Ok, regardless of which teams it is...13 innings of 0-0 ball? That's kinda sweet.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 08:48 PM) The irony is that they are the ones that flipped a s*** about Terri Schiavo. The idea behind that is to try and prevent future situations like that. I fail to see how that can even remotely be considered a bad thing, but then again, I'm not a talk radio host talking out of my ass and grasping onto whatever straws I can to make the liberal loonies look evil. Obama's death panel got her too.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 08:44 PM) This would also mean the end of Wise. Quite frankly, no it won't. I have no idea how. But no it won't. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 08:43 PM) The f*** is she talking about? She is making s*** up. No one, nowhere, is proposing anything remotely resembling whatever she is hallucinating about. Elderly have the right to have living will consultations -> Obama wants to Euthanize the elderly -> Obama wants to euthanize everyone with any flaws. Pretty easy progression. If you're going to tell the first lie, the 2nd one isn't exactly far beyond it.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 08:26 PM) We won't be making that trade. Unless, we're sending straight cash (homey?) to the Jays, players will be involved our end. Then the Jays can keep paying his salary as he gets more and more expensive. Remember...we don't need him. We'd like him, but we don't need him. They may need to move him, not want to move him. We're holding all the aces here. -

1.5 years ago the league thought highly enough of this guy for a Lincecum/Rios swap to sound fair for both sides. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 08:15 PM) How much does Rios really play CF? Isn't he mostly in RF? Only because the Jays have Wells in CF. That doesn't make him a bad CF; that means the Jays want Wells there, for various reasons. -

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 08:12 PM) JP Riccardi is going to lose his job at the end of this season no matter what, so KW should feel free to take the 'its my way or the highway' approach without sacrificing much reputation. The Sox should offer up zero guys who have a shot of making our big league roster in the next 3 years unless they're sending money with him. -
Seriously, I want to start up my own death panel. Sounds kinda renegade.

QUOTE (jphat007 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 07:59 PM) And who bats leadoff the rest of this year and next year? Pods has been one of our better f***ing hitters this year. The only reason we are even f***ing sniffing first place. To just throw him out would be the dumbest thing this organization could do after lookin for a leadoff hitter. No, that would be benching him for Wise again. -

QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 07:39 PM) Whoa. That's 1st round talent right there. The board would explode! Exactly. The Blue Jays want something back? They can tell their fanbase that they got a 2006 first round pick in return! -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 07:30 PM) So Rios has about 6 years and 62 million remaining on his contract? If KW wants him, you don't even think of trading prospects for him. 2 words. Kyle McCullough. -

QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 05:15 PM) Bernstein was saying the Sox would be on the books to pay him 12 mil a year after next year for 3 seasons after that. This guy is not worth that kind of annual money. He was for the last 3 years before this one. -

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 03:33 PM) Rhetorical 'how do I react' or am I supposed to be putting myself in the shoes of an obsessed Obama hater? There is going to be over the top stuff said by the far reaches of either party out of power. It's just a current political reality. The Dems were completely over the top when Bush was president. Some congressman was screaming about how Bush sends troops to Iraq just to watch them die for his amusement on the house floor. The Dems kind of started this idiotic precedent, now the far right followers are doing the same thing. Don’t take that as a “it’s ok they did it”. It’s equally bad for both, but nothing new. There was totally over the top stuff from the Dems when Bush was in power, even IIRC Durbin broke Godwin's Law on the Floor of the Senate. Maybe I'm wrong though, but I think somehow this seems different. When Answer rallies pulled together a million anti-war protesters, you really didn't feel like it was going to turn violent. At the RNC in 2004, maybe some of the anarchists turned violent, but it certainly seemed like things stayed under control, with mostly yelling rather than battles in the streets. (A lot of people just standing around got jailed, that probably played in to things too). Really though there seems to be this current of gun-toting serious anger that is permeating these folks. This non-citizen born in Kenya wants to euthanize your grandmother right after he takes away your guns. I mean, Glenn Beck literally last week took a moment to point out that he's not advocating violence. Usually...you only have to do that if what you're saying can be construed as advocating violence. Again, maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think that the current "Right wing rage" ends well.

QUOTE (striker62704 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 03:27 PM) All I'm saying is this move doesn't make sense to us. IMO That's an argument that can be made. Just make it well, is all I ask. -
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 03:23 PM) i can actually see that happening. the SEIU goons attacking people has raised the bar. i wouldn't be surprised to see some far right wing loon raise the bar another level. The left, FWIW, is insisting that it was the 912 project-ers who were out of line and who were the ones who raised the bar.

QUOTE (striker62704 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 03:21 PM) Rios has a career .285 average, batted over .300 once. Oh btw, Pods costs about 1/24th of Rios. Please don't tell me you're judging a guy who's averages the last 3 years before this one were .302, .297, and .291 based on the fact that he didn't hit .300 in those last 2 seasons. (Not even bothering to go to the OPS or OPS+ levels here either). -
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 03:15 PM) you guys are going to have to accept the fact that the Dems are going to get the GW Bush treatment as far as over the top protest signs and stuff. having a "GW BUSH = HITLER" or "OBAMA = STALIN" sign should bring a certain level of ridicule, not a government directed beating. If that's all that happens here, then you're right. Although, it's interesting how willing the leaders of the party (Limbaugh, Boehner, Savage, Beck) have been to go along with the Obama is a Nazi stuff. Frankly though, I really think I'll be surprised if this ends in just a handful of arrests. You've got the entire party's set of mouthpieces screaming to anyone who will listen that Obama is going to euthanize your parents and he's preparing his own final solution. Literally. And he's going to take away your guns too. How do you react to that?
