QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 02:23 PM) Can you ever admit that there's a problem when Jon Stewart comes out on top of a poll like this? "oh, no, there's not a problem with HIM, it's everyone else!". Gees. Fine. What should Jon Stewart do to make himself less trustworthy? The problem is not with Stewart. The problem is that there's no reason to trust the rest of the media. They simply don't serve the public good at all right now. They serve themselves and the people in power. Stewart can do whatever the Hell he wants. The reason he's winning awards is that there's a gap out there that no one else is filling; actual in-depth, non-idiotic reporting that doesn't spend 3 weeks wondering where Michael Jackson's casket is.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 02:48 PM) Dealing Floyd pretty much defeats the purpose of adding Haren. Haren has simply been better than Floyd and there's no real reason to think he'll stop being better than him. He's also more expensive than Floyd, so you don't give up much more than Floyd to get him. But if you have the salary flexibility it's a trade you consider.

102 pitches for G through 6. He could start the 7th potentially if he feels up to it. Damn we need to win this game.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 02:46 PM) You think he'll ever have the pop to be a #3? I'm not so sure. Since he legitimately started hitting (excluding his first 30 AB's or so) Beckham has 11 doubles in 120 at bats. The guys currently leading the AL in Doubles, Roberts and Lind, have 32 doubles in 370+ at bats. Beckham has a higher doubles-rate than the guys leading the league in doubles and he's a rookie. These balls aren't going to be staying in the park his whole career. Edit: that's before his double today.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 02:41 PM) Honestly, I'd leave out Floyd and give up Jordan Danks(since we have Jered Mitchell), Flowers(I see him as a 1B/DH with Viciedo already there) Poreda(still am waiting for that 97mph fastball) and two lower level prospects for Haren. Trading Jordan Danks still causes major league difficulties. We have to hold him and give him a shot unless we're dealing both Danks. I'd be willing to part with Floyd in a Haren deal. But really...not much more than Floyd.

QUOTE (The Baconator @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 02:43 PM) Fox question of the day was which team has gone the longest since their last no-hitter. My guess is either the Pirates or the Reds. Anyone else venture a guess? Mets?

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 02:40 PM) Are you seriously saying that you think Alexei is a better 2 hitter than Beckham? Long term I still want Beckham as a #3 hitter. Right now, I still like Alexei in the 2 hole.
-
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 02:33 PM) Beckham has a much higher OBP than Alexei. He sees more pitches, takes a walk, is hard to strikeout, has a high contact rate and looks to be a high average, line drive type hitter. He would be dangerous in the 2 hole. Where as Alexei has a hard time hitting breaking pitches, doesn't walk, and has a medicore OBP. Beckham has a slightly higher OBP than Alexei, and a decent chunk of that is where their batting averages currently sit (beckham's is slightly higher but is trending down). Beckham is taking 1 walk per 10 AB's, Alexei's taking 1 walk per 11.5 AB's this year. Long Term, I want Beckham hitting 3rd. For now, Alexei in the 2 hole works for me. Alexei's #'s since he moved in to the 2 hole are even better. Higher OBP in that spot than Beckham. Exact same walk rate as Beckham since he moved in to the 2 spot.

345 just aren't giving us anything right now. The good news is; that won't last. The bad news is we really need these games.

Man are Toronto and Tampa ever playing a burner today.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 02:30 PM) The idea of Beckham getting more pitches to hit and more fastballs is exciting considering at the bottom of the lineup, there is no protection. To answer your question. No. That won't happen. Unfortunately. It's not like Alexei's been bad in that spot. Getz and Beckham together are probably moving up in the order real quick next year.
-
Come on Alexei, keep it moving. Edit: for god's sake dont' bunt.
-
Getz, Beckham, and Podsednik are seemingly the only ones who have generated any offense lately without the HR>

Becktastic!

76 pitches through 4 for Gavin. I think he'll probably get through 6.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 02:16 PM) the injury for him? Yeah. Figured you'd be nearly giddy over that, given your comments on Lilly and the wind direction at Wrigley.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 02:10 PM) My brother was just noticing how stiff his swing is. I know he always had the exaggerated stance, but even earlier this year, it seems like his mechanics are just awful. Did you catch the Ted Lilly note?

QUOTE (tommy @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 02:10 PM) From Stoneys twitter the Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski said something along the line that 'wouldn't want him on my team' Smartest thing he's said in a while.
-
Last year there was almost never a time when Quentin was this automatic of an out.
-
Come on team, string a few bloody hits together.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 01:59 PM) Yep, it's been very annoying so far. The walk with the bases loaded was so predictable, as well as the big inning in the first today after the pathetic 3-2 call by the umpire. And the drop by Konerko.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 01:55 PM) Tigers have a very underrated defensive squad. That was actually quite deliberately done. They decided they might be able to build a winner cheaper by focusing on that rather than the bats last offseason. Hence: Adam Everett at SS, Guillen/Cabrera moving to 1b/DH, Inge back to 3b, etc.
-
42 pitches through 2 for Gavin. He needs a couple quicker innings and fewer defensive miscues, otherwise we'll be seeing the bullpen in the 6th. And I don't like the thought of that.
-
Frankly, it's going to depend on how long he wants to pitch for.
-
Ted Lilly to the DL for about a month.
