On a different topic...here's one last gift from the former president. He couldn't privatize social security, so he did the next best thing, and stuck the pension benefit guarantee money in the stock market. What could go wrong? After all, the stock market loves Republicans and would never go down under one of them. I really love how the same names keep turning up here. The guy doing this move...former guy at Lehman brothers.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 05:43 PM) It's completely unsustainable to feed trillions in deficit spending to prop up these failed corporations. $30 billion = multiple trillions? If sustaining 5+ million jobs nationwide and really avoiding a depression only costs a few tens of billions of dollars, it's a good move. If it costs nearly a trillion to keep the financial industry afloat, then you've got a point.
-
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 03:40 PM) GW Bush gave out the original billions, the first African-American GW Bush completely supports these billions in bailouts. Actually, I believe the first African-American GW Bush had a big meeting with the original GW Bush and told him he REALLY wanted the auto bailout to go trough. If I remember correctly, you also completely supported all the auto bailouts. http://www.reuters.com/article/vcCandidate...E4AB8T620081112 And frankly, I still do. The industry can not be allowed to fail now. Simply saying that the first step should have been a restructuring rather than giving them money ignores the fact that their sales had fallen off so dramatically that they couldn't have made it through December without government help. It was still the right move, and it's a vastly more efficient jobs program than dumping money down the banks' bottomless pit.

If Colon can go in 2 weeks and give us 6 innings, then there's no reason why this isn't the right move. Good to hear they're both considered that healthy.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 04:09 PM) They both were topping out at 93. Hopefully it's just a bad day, and they can get one good outing each before facing the Twins. If Colon is topping out at 93, that's a great sign. Probably the same for Jose but we all know how he can bounce around sometimes and still be successful. These 2 are due for the same sort of dead arm period the rest of our guys hit a couple weeks ago.

Dewayne Wise Named Full-time Starting CF/Leadoff hitter
Balta1701 replied to Kalapse's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 03:33 PM) Still waiting for Wise to draw a f***ing walk. Out of my 9th place hitter, don't really care. -
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 01:33 PM) It does show a disturbing (at best) lack of vision within the Obama administration. The first step should have been a controlled restructuring; not blindly giving out billions upon billions upon billions to the auto companies. Am I missing something or wasn't the first step done in December?

Dewayne Wise Named Full-time Starting CF/Leadoff hitter

QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 03:26 PM) You can't possibly believe Wise deserves to be in CF anywhere NEAR as much (at ALL, even) as BA... As far as Leadoff, I think I'd rather see Getz than anyone else. This spring, Wise is hitting .302 with 3 triples, 2 homers, and 10 RBI. Anderson's hitting .283 with 4 homers and 9 RBI in more at bats, fewer total bases. And frankly, Anderson didn't look good for quite some time to start the Spring. I'll tolerate a platoon until i'm convinced it isn't working or I'm convinced one of them is outplaying the other in real games. I just don't want to see them anywhere near the leadoff spot. -
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 02:27 PM) Nix will play short during his rehab and will come up during the season to platoon, or lead-off and play short or second. Swisher would look really good right now compared to the Wise. Lillibridge and Wise are not MLB hitters right now. Lillibridge not yet and Wise never was. So much for the OBP out of the lead-off spot I wise they would just stop promoting that idea. Swisher put up a .743 OPS last year. Wise put up a .742 OPS. Really, this is the definition of the tallest midget argument.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 03:04 PM) Is anyone concerned at all about Dye? For all the b****ing, moaning and complaining about Mr. Lillibridge, Dye is hitting 107 points lower than he is... Dye hit .238 in the spring last year and everyone was moaning about his bat looking slow and his body looking old.

QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 03:10 PM) Unbelievable. Seriously, WTF is the point of keeping BA on this team if you're not going to give him the spot he deserves? I mean, this movie was obviously a possibility, but that doesn't make it any less stupid. Jesus, just put BA out there. His offense isn't going to make the team that much worse than what it is now. He really doesn't "Deserve" the spot. He hasn't been that great this ST or in his past outings. Even as one of his defenders, he hasn't "Earned" the spot any more than Wise has right now. I can totally go with a Wise/Anderson platoon in CF to start the season. Couldn't care less. See if it works. The mistake is not who's playing CF. The mistake is putting our backup CF who is filling the starting role in the leadoff slot over a guy who actually has done a little bit in the last year + to suggest he deserves it, in Getz. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 01:40 PM) The CF position for the Sox is becoming like the QB position for the Bears. I think the PF position on the Bulls is a better metaphor. They draft guys to fill that spot and either trade them away or block them so that they never develop, and then play people completely out of position to ensure that they don't. That metaphor will work when the Bears draft a QB and then never give them a shot because they keep signing Gus Frerrotte.

Maybe we should have signed Tavares. -
So how many games before Getz is moved to the leadoff spot?
-
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 19, 2009 -> 04:05 PM) That would be moi and its right here. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...,0,323351.story Under leadoff woes in the paragraph starting with the words Jerry Owens.. The 4 game hit streak for Jerry Owens that article referred to ended today.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 19, 2009 -> 04:06 PM) And when he says 50%, he means 25%. He's still got another month. The 5th starter isn't needed until the 15th for the first time because of an offday, if we really want to push that. Without knowing how Colon is actually feeling, hearing his medical reports, whatever, it's impossible for me to judge whether he can make that date. That's basically a normal spring training duration before then.

Broussard grounds out, ballgame. 6-4 Giants win.
-
Fields with a standup double down the RF line. Kroeger will PH. Kroeger walks, Miller comes up and singles solidly to LF. Bases loaded, Anderson should be up next with 0 out and down 2. Anderson takes strike 3 looking. Broussard up.
-
Russell hits another guy.
-
Grounder to Fields, ball thrown to Beckham but the ball goes in to CF, 2 runs score, should have been a double play, they get the ball back in and steal an out. The error gets charged to Beckham.
-
The next guy gets hit by a pitch also, but in the process of swinging.
-
Poreda loads the bases and gives up a run. Ozzie takes Poreda out, brings Russell in. First pitch...HBP, game is tied.
-
Lillibridge comes in to CF and will get an AB next inning. First 2 single off of Poreda.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 19, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) Beckham will bat 3rd next inning. He needs to get back to hitting. Honestly, I see the end for his major league camp coming in the next seven days. Becks K's swinging.
-
Egbert gives up 2 hits, a walk, and a run in the 6th. Howry comes in for the Giants. Miller pinch hits for Egbert. Singles to CF. Anderson GIDP. Poreda in. Torres singles, steals 2nd on Poreda/Miller, throw goes in to CF. Poreda in trouble. Gives up double by Velez, guy Poreda walked was thrown out at home trying to score.
