Just did some simple county math. Obama's down about 45,000 votes right now. From what is left around Indy, he's got about 18,000 or so more votes coming in those areas if you assume that his margin stays the same and each precinct has similar turnout. Monroe County (IU) only has 9% in so far, projecting that is rough but it might give 5000 or more based on the current margin. Lafayette isn't in yet at all, and Lake/Laporte aren't in either. I'd guess that from the Hillary areas that haven't reported yet there's less than a 5000 vote margin left for her. That leaves about 27,000 votes he'd need to make up in Lake and Porter and Lafayette and Monroe. -

It's now been an hour since CBS called it for Clinton in IN but no other network has done so. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 6, 2008 -> 05:04 PM) Which really makes me wonder, what about a President Obama would be any different? I'm afraid I don't understand the question. Are you asking whether Obama might change his position on an issue or two every 16 years (I hope to God he does), or are you asking if Obama might suddenly decide that because every expert is against him on an issue he declares that expert opinion is worthless (which I certainly hope he doesn't). Btw, BO just grabbed a NC Super.

QUOTE (lostfan @ May 6, 2008 -> 04:59 PM) I dunno about Lake/Porter/Laporte but looking at the map right now it seems like he's underperforming there, at least from what I expected. But he's doing strong really close to Indianapolis which I didn't expect. Only a tiny amount have been counted in Porter, Lake and Laporte have nothing in so far according to CNN. -

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ May 6, 2008 -> 04:07 PM) Obama is outperforming in counties he's supposed to lose hard in Indiana. With no results in Lake, Porter and St. Joe counties, plus no results near Evansville.... we're looking at half of Obama's support in the state. Which is why they haven't called it yet. Thanks, home. Seriously, we appreciate this. Thanks a ton. -

QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ May 6, 2008 -> 03:56 PM) They'll call it for Clinton soon enough. Probably true...but I'd still live with "Closer than expected in IN" being the result, because it's a delegate fight. -

QUOTE (lostfan @ May 6, 2008 -> 03:54 PM) I'm looking at CNN's map here, and there is nothing from northwest IN yet which right now is assumed to be pro-Obama, and Indianapolis is also 60-40 Obama right now and it's only 20% counted. Well, then, I think the logic is that when they do the math extrapolating the Indy area up to 100%, there's still enough wiggle room that a strong showing from the Region could push it very close. Which is a good sign for BO. -

QUOTE (knightni @ May 6, 2008 -> 03:08 PM) CNN/AOL both have Clinton up by 14-18% in Indiana. Despite that, they haven't called it yet, so presumably that's a strongly biased sample of what's been counted. In PA, they called it with about 10-15% counted because, IIRC, when they looked at the actual results coming in from precincts that were supposed to be strong Obama, his lead wasn't as big in the actual votes as it was in the exit polls, and that's what made them make the call. 17% are in so far, which suggests that the raw data might actually not be as pro-Hillary as the exits suggested if it hasn't been called yet. -
QUOTE (jackie hayes @ May 6, 2008 -> 01:15 PM) They have some. Hinrich might be okay, Deng should be fine, Gordon can certainly play a role. But it's hard to see Noah, Thomas, and Sefalosha in that system. I like them as players, and they're fine athletes, but they seem a lot less valuable under a no-defense philosophy. We still don't have that underneath scorer to fill a Stoudamire-type role. (Only the role, not the production -- I'm not trying to set ridiculous expectations.) It'll be interesting, I just don't see how it'll work. Just out of curiosity...D'Antoni hasn't really had a chance to coach more than 1 team since the NBA's rules opened up the game a bit, while it may be hard to see a couple defense oriented guys fitting in beautifully next to Steve Nash and Amare, how do we know that it can't be made to work with the Bulls roster? Every one of the guys they have is young and has fairly fresh legs under them, especially the big guys, etc. I've been wanting to see the Bulls push the tempo since they moved Wallace and Skiles, as it seemed like their roster, especially their frontcourt, could fit that style of play well. Do we know that D'Antoni will stubbornly refuse to adapt his playing style to the players we have? If I were Skiles, that'd have been my first and most decisive interview question...how would he fit his style of game to our roster where we've been drafting for defense for several years. If he had a bad answer to that question, I wouldn't even have made an offer.

QUOTE (Vance Law @ May 6, 2008 -> 02:40 PM) then 3 years later you used it in a post as "evidence" of causality. Or...it could have just been a case of the team starting off cold and regressing towards the mean as the season went on.

Greg Walker yet again leads Sox to worst batting average

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 6, 2008 -> 01:20 PM) Here's a special stat. From A ball through the Majors, this organization is hitting a whopping .236. How does that compare with other teams though? I'd imagine there are a fair number of teams that get dragged down by what a couple guys in their minors are doing. -
QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ May 6, 2008 -> 01:27 PM) Maybe a "new" set of eyes could help out the hitters. Last year the Dodgers removed Eddie Murray as their hitting coach when the team was hitting .261 in the middle of June. They finished up the year with a .275 team BA and that was 2nd in the league. Now,the year before, with Murray as the hitting coach, they led the league in BA(and runs scored i believe). So either the players just hit up to their levels after Murray was canned or a new, fresh approach was needed to get the players back on track. Walker has been around for how many years now? Maybe something new would help the club out. On the other hand, in 2005, the Indians started the season out with Eddie Murray as their hitting coach, started out in a slump, fired and replaced him, and got super-hot for about 2 months with the bats.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 6, 2008 -> 02:09 PM) By the way, if you recall, TT was often compared to Amare and if you think about it, Amare has really strived in the Phoenix system so hopefully that up-tempo offense will really get the best out of Tyrus (and that Mike can get TT to run the court). Joakim runs the court well too and Drew Gooden is really the only regular contributor who may find himself in a tough spot in the system (but no matter how much you run, it still pays to have a legit back to the basket low post player, plus Gooden is still a pretty solid athlete). The bigger question is what types of adjustments are made to the current personell (does this system actually benefit a guy like Gordon or does he not fit into the system). Deng and his mid-range jumper should be a good fit, not sure with Gordon who tends to be a bit more ball-hog oriented (guys who move without the ball do well in Mike's system). Gordon has the talent to perform very, very well in a system like the one in Phoenix, but he's just never used that talent yet, which is one of the reasons I've been so frustrated with him. The 2 things that he would be very good at are a.) the open jumper created on the break or created off of the movement of other people (Even without Nash, if you're pushing the tempo, you're going to create those open looks from outside, and Gordon has as good of a shot for that as anyone in the league) and he's actually very quick if he ever tries to drive. In 06-07, some of the best stuff the Bulls players did came on the times that either Gordon or Deng would push the ball hard in from the top of the lane and force the defense to collapse, something they totally got away from in 07-08 in the games I bothered watching. Edit: side note, one simple fact about the Bulls offseason has to be that they need to trade away a shooting guard. Thabo, Gordon, and Hughes can not all be on this roster next year. I don't care who the coach is, I don't care if they move to PG some time, there just is not enough minutes to go around for all 3 of those barring a season ending injury.

God it'd be nice to outperform expectations tonight. Somehow I doubt it given the expectation for N.C. will be what Drudge has run all day, but it really would. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 6, 2008 -> 02:02 PM) This really is the perfect personnel. I have my doubts on whether Hinrich can run the system, but aside from that the Bulls have the athletes in pace to successfully run an up-tempo style of offense. I also have to believe that the team when interviewing Mike would have asked him about whether the proper players are there and what he thought of Kirk and whomever and my guess is if the Bulls hire D'Antoni they either believe Kirk can be that guy or have someone in mind that they believe they can get. I'm freaking excited though if they hire him. My first instinct was to be uncertain, but I think I'm getting more excited as time passes about the idea.

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ May 6, 2008 -> 12:38 PM) You're tired of Ozzie, and reporters saying it, oh.. you mean Baseball People. Gotcha. I have no doubt that Walker has told a lot of these guys what they're doing wrong, but ultimately it's up to the players to translate that information in their at bats. And they're not doing it. If you think Greg Walker just trots around, not dissecting their swings/approaches vs certain pitchers, amongst other things that hitting coaches do, then he WOULDN'T have a job because that kind of lethargic non-coaching wouldn't be tolerated by this organization. Walk is telling these guys what's wrong, they're just not able to execute this information right now because they're MENTALLY slumping, they're psyching themselves out at the plate, it's that simiple really. The only person who's going to get these guys out of a slump is themselves. Firing Walker is a knee-jerk reaction because your angry that you are helpless and can't do anything about these guys' poor performances, and only they can. Your lack of control of the situation is leading to this mob-mentality on firing him. Just my $.02 Well, let me reply to this with a simple question. How exactly can removing Greg Walker make this team worse?

So, am I the only one who has noticed that so far now a couple days have passed and we haven't heard any conclusive results about how intoxicated he was, even via the quick breathalyser?

QUOTE (jackie hayes @ May 6, 2008 -> 11:49 AM) What are you basing that on? I'm not trying to be combative, I just haven't seen anything like that in the reports about D'Antoni. It sounds like neither side is too happy with the other, and the Shaq trade suggests that they aren't happy with his coaching style. I was under the impression that they'd probably let him go pretty easy. Just instinct, probably wrong though. I mean, think about what is motivating each side here: The Bulls want a coach The Suns would like to be able to get around the last $8 million on D'Antoni's contract, but might not want to give him up for absolutely nothing. D'Antoni might want out of that situation, but if he just stays put, he makes himself another $8 million. The issue I guess then is whether or not the Bulls are willing to pay the salary D'Antoni is currently making and beyond.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 6, 2008 -> 01:12 PM) Amazing. If you arent for them, you are against them. Back in 1992, Bill Clinton ran an ad showing all the "elitist" economists who supported his economic plan. Now that they dont support his wife... to hell with 'em! Seriously, pulling an ad out from 16 years ago to prove that something a different person said under different circumstances about a different issue is supposed to convince me of what exactly? There's plenty of reason to dislike Hillary, or to dislike these specific comments. There are more recent remarks by Hillary that do a better job. This is really just overkill, and it really isn't productive.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 6, 2008 -> 12:18 PM) I get what you are saying, and indeed the players bear the biggest responsibility. But to say the hitting coach has nothing to do with how the team is hitting, including their approach at the plate, is off base. If that is true, then why have a hitting coach? The other little issue is...it's a hell of a lot easier to change pitching coaches than it is to turn over a roster of guys like Thome, Konerko, and Swisher. No one's trading for them if they aren't hitting, and you can't exactly buy them out or bench them. In other words...changing a coach is about the only thing we can do.
