QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 9, 2008 -> 01:27 PM) I could give less of a crap if its true or not. But I'm very disappointed that McCain keeps harping on it. I think its trashy, and that quote of his where he tries in a single sentence to both insult and compliment Obama is laughable. He basically said "with all due respect, he's a terrorist's best friend". What is the point of the "with all due respect?" Despite a few gaffes, I've been pretty OK with McCain so far in this cycle. But his continually bringing up this fact, and then acting like he doesn't campaign negative, is a little pathetic. It will only get worse from here, from McCain's side. On Obama...if he's been able to keep his campaign from mentioning "Whitewater" and "Monica Lewinsky", which he's done, I'll at least give him credit for keeping limits on things.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 9, 2008 -> 01:18 PM) Balta, you coming out to any of the games in Anaheim? No, but I am finally going to get to a game at Chavez Ravine this year. Got a couple tix for game 3 of the Sox @ Dodgers. Sort of figured if I was here for 2 more years (now that I have paid for the wedding and car and can actually afford baseball tickets) that I could see the Sox @ Angels stadium any year, but this is probably my last chance for Sox@Dodgers for 6 years or so since the last 2 interleague series between the 2 teams have been in LA

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 9, 2008 -> 12:11 PM) I sort of agree with Stoney but I think 5-5 really wouldn't prove anything. 2-8 or 3-7 I think we're done. After seeing what teams like Cleveland and Houston did in 2005 and what other teams have continued to do since then, Even if we're 5 games below .500 at the end of this stretch, it's not over...it just takes a major turnaround (Note, both Houston and Cleveland changed a coach to do their turnaround IIRC, a manager and a hitting coach).

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 9, 2008 -> 12:44 PM) Obama picks up 2 more superdelegates. 7 in total today. I think the wave is starting. I think we're up to 8 now. You know, I wonder if Hillary's remarks on how she's going to win the "White" vote 2 days ago are playing in to today's wave. Yes, everyone knows its over, but I think the supers might have hesitated a little more if they genuinely believed she was going to play a bit nicer over the last few weeks. That one quote basically proved that any pronouncement that they were going to try to cut down on the negative stuff was just a lie, and therefore, the choice was to come out and end it by shutting her up or to continue letting her stay negative.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 9, 2008 -> 12:41 PM) I dont think he can say that because the right will paint him as "soft on terror" for not wanting to go after Hamas at full strength and with the lives of "valiant soldiers willing to risk their lives for freedom and liberty" If he wants to run a different type of campaign, then he ought to be willing to say that being hard on terror at any and all costs isn't always a bad thing, otherwise we'd have bombed Northern Ireland in to the ground. This exact issue you bring up is part of the problem. You can't win the argument if you get sucked in to accepting that it's a bad thing to negotiate with bad people and that because people are bad they should be killed without regard to any of the situation. The problem isn't the answer to the "does this make Obama soft on terror, yes or no" question, the problem is that the question itself is fundamentally flawed.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 9, 2008 -> 12:14 PM) I am REALLY starting to hate McCain now. McCain: The American People Want Me to Tie Obama to Hamas Honestly, this is actually a debate I hope we can try to have, I think it's illustrative. John McCain is running around drawing focus on to a statement by a leader of Hamas that they'd prefer to have Obama in the White House, and saying he'd be Hamas's worst nightmare. Here's what I would like to hear Obama say in response: "George W. Bush was Saddam Hussein's worst nightmare. He took away his power, forced him in to hiding, arrested him, had him interrogated, had his sons killed in a gun battle, and rapidly had him put to death by the gallows. But to do that it has costs thousands of American lives, hundreds of thousands of Iraqi lives, and a few trillion dollars. Being the worst nightmare of a bad group, just because they're bad, isn't always the right decision."

Michigan Democratic Delegate Deal - unconfirmed
Balta1701 replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (lostfan @ May 9, 2008 -> 10:15 AM) How bout this then. Give her the difference in delegates between votes for her and votes for "uncommitted" which will be a handful, and give Obama nothing. Because essentially almost half of Michigan Democrats had the chance to vote for her as opposed to nobody else but instead voted "anybody but Clinton" so hey, why shouldn't they just cancel the other votes out since they don't count for anybody else? Anything other than a 100/0 split is going to be vetoed by the Clinton campaign. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ May 9, 2008 -> 04:08 AM) Or not. ROFL. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080509/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq This ought to be somewhat fun, watching how many times he's reported captured or killed. I'm still a big fan of how one of the given reasons for the war was that Zarqawi was treated in a Baghdad hospital for losing a leg in the fighting in Afghanistan, where he had gone to train with Al Qaeda. He then kept showing up with 2 legs.

Michigan Democratic Delegate Deal - unconfirmed
Balta1701 replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 9, 2008 -> 09:41 AM) Of course she rejects this plan. She cannot give Obama a fraction of an inch at this point. It's not that. It's that if she can get the "Uncommitted" block from Michigan to go uncommitted while she gets the fully pledge block, that's a 100-0 or so shift in her favor. Which is absolutely ridiculous, but it's the only way she can call herself back in the race, to count everything in Michigan that went for her as going for her and give Obama absolutely nothing. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ May 9, 2008 -> 07:54 AM) Every media source keeps their track of superdelegates differently because it's not like there is an official list or scoreboard with everybody's name on it. They just go off what was said in public or what have you so there is margin for error. I've been following mainly CNN's delegate count since the beginning and they have Clinton +7. The fun part of this over the next week or two is going to be...each count is different, so each network is going to give him the lead in superdelegates at a different point. Which means that this same story is going to be published about a dozen times over the next week or two, as ABC, NBC, CBS, Faux, the NY Times, the USA Today, the LA Times, and various internet sources that are doing counts each have the count flip. So basically, if you get your news from more than one source, you're going to get the "Obama takes the Superdelegate lead" meme absolutely pounded in to your head over the next week as it actually happens.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 9, 2008 -> 07:55 AM) DCW is pretty solid since they have a link to every single endorsement. The issue is always going to be, given a couple hundred public statements...how specific is each public statement?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 9, 2008 -> 09:29 AM) If the Sox were going to trade Quentin to the Reds it sure as heck wouldn't be for Griffey. In fact, where would he even play? The Sox don't exactly have an opening on the current roster for another outfielder (unless they move one of there other outfielders and I wouldn't trade Swisher or Dye for Griffey). Some combination of Bailey, Cueto, Volquez, and Phillips (probably 2 of them) would be the payment for a Quentin, given their current performance. Which is why it's never happening. They don't need a corner outfielder that badly, and we don't need an extra young pitcher that badly.

QUOTE (knightni @ May 8, 2008 -> 07:15 PM) Mike Brown's replacement has been needed since 2006. As hard as he tries, and as great as he can be, he just is injury prone and shouldn't be relied on as a starter in the NFL. I think Mike Brown's replacement re-signed with the Colts last year. Because I don't know if I can think of any other safety in the league who has the impact of those 2 guys on the field. -

As you can see below...more than a few people need days off. Thome could use a couple. Konerko could use a couple days off. My Jaw dropped when I saw that Cabrera got one today. Quentin could probably use one.

QUOTE (knightni @ May 8, 2008 -> 04:06 PM) This is the Democratic Party we're talking about. Al Gore would never allow it. Tobacco is a perfectly renewable energy source. -

No reason to put Bobby in today...Who hasn't worked lately? When's the last time the lefties pitched?

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 8, 2008 -> 01:59 PM) He's not comparing Linebrink to Mariano, he's comparing the situation. Maybe it isn't the best comparison, but it hold water. The fact of the matter is that people here think they are much better managers than Ozzie. How many Major League wins do you guys have as manager? You know what, I just checked some numbers, and gul darnit, they're actually right. I concede. Linebrink is actually a better pitcher against lefties than against righties according to his splits. Last 3 years, Lefties .609 OPS, righties, .730. I still think you put Boone in, but maybe that call wasn't as bad as I thought.
-
QUOTE (Soxpranos @ May 8, 2008 -> 01:53 PM) I hear you, nobody ever criticized Torre when he brought Mariano in the 8th to face 5 out of 6 lefties. If it is so easy to manage , get an interview. Dude, that's because Mariano Rivera is probably as tough against lefties as any pitcher in baseball. Lefties hit .209 against him in his career with a .523 OPS. That's Boone Loogyn territory right there. He'd be a lefty specialist with that cutter if he didn't destroy righties also.
