You know, we are due for a solo home run.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 8, 2008 -> 12:01 PM) G. Bush I was actually a pretty good candidate...but I suppose he didn't campaign well, so maybe not a good candidate. He was a good president as far as I'm concerned (way better than Bush II) But...Fox News didn't exist when Bush 1 ran for office. The bad parts of the system were there (i.e. the Willie Horton ad, etc.) but they hadn't been blown out of proportion by the 24 hour networks like they have now. I doubt Bush 1 lost the election because he threw up on Japan's Prime Minister, but now whether or not you're good at bowling or whether or not you drink OJ or coffee with breakfast at a diner determines whether or not Americans will like you for some reason.

Just got back in. To quote Major League..."One G*d damn hit? You can't say G*d damn on the air! Ah nobody's listening anyway."
-
Never mind, I lied, AJ got a couple more hits yesterday and passed up both Anderson and Hall, who are 2 and 3 on the roster in batting. For about a week there they were 1 and 2.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ May 8, 2008 -> 09:15 AM) Yikes. Toby Hall has the best BA of today's White Sox roster. Fixed that for you. He's actually the best on the team. And I believe Anderson is #2.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 8, 2008 -> 10:13 AM) You're taking it too far... I didn't say it effected that at all. I just thought it was funny to point out how ghastly she really is. This IS the all things anti Hillary thread as well! The next time you see a 60+ year old woman on the street somewhere, I expect you to point and laugh.

Michigan Democratic Delegate Deal - unconfirmed
Balta1701 replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 8, 2008 -> 10:24 AM) The Clinton campaign's Communications Director Howard Wolfson just said they have serious issues with the proposed solution because it does not "accurately and completely" reflect how the people of Michigan voted. In other words, they can't allow a solution, because allowing a solution other than 60% clinton and 40% unpledged hurts them, and they're better off keeping things muddled as long as they can because then they can keep saying that they're staying in the race to protect the brave voters of Michigan and Florida. -

QUOTE (lostfan @ May 8, 2008 -> 10:05 AM) This is different from the original position that Obama opposed isn't it? In Florida, I can't see anything short of a revote solving that. The previous position of the Obama campaign has been that since neither side campaigned in those states, there should be some sort of even split, 50-50, and usually someone will add that each state should lose 1/2 the size of its delegation as penalty, so that no one picks up ground. But, the Obama campaign is in a position now where their delegate lead is so strong that they can actually afford to give Hillary 20-40 delegates across those 2 states if it simply shuts down one of her remaining arguments, that it's so important to seat these 2 states. -
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 8, 2008 -> 09:06 AM) I cant say I havent thought about potential Botax before. I think the cake her up for TV on the debates. She almost looks TOO clean during the debates compared to everyday looks. Who the Hell cares what a candidate does to improve their appearance? Why does this matter at all? Is John McCain a wuss because he has makeup put on to make his head look less shiny when he's appearing on TV?

QUOTE (rangercal @ May 8, 2008 -> 10:02 AM) Fire Sale Jim Thome Paul Konerko Jermaine Dye Joe Crede Juan Uribe Orlando Cabrera Pablo Ozuna Why do people keep acting like it's a good idea to go and put guys who are struggling mightily out on the trade market? "Oh sure, here, you can take my last 2 first round draft picks for a guy hitting .220 and making $12 million this year. Oh, and Juan Uribe? Sweet! I need a shortstop, here, take my best pitching prospect". If you want to do a "fire sale", you can't do jack squat until some of these guys pick it up. Pablo and Uribe are essentially worthless, trading Crede might net you something but it's going to be a disappointment because of his FA status, Thome and Konerko are hitting .220 (not to mention the 10-5 rights Konerko just picked up), and Cabrera is probably still going to net the Sox 2 draft picks this fall if he walks as a FA, which means you need to get something worth more than a pair of late first round picks for him if you deal him. -

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ May 8, 2008 -> 09:58 AM) I was just messing with you Pratt. I don't think the actual tapes themselves had much of an effect on the games. Especially in the Steelers 02 AFCC game. Kordell Stewart was at the helm and a retarded mule could steal signals when he was in the game. I think the bigger concern is the coverup of the tapes. The Patriots have had many chances to come out and own up to the other tapes that have been created, especially since the earliest hints from Walsh. But instead they chose to sit on it and hope Walsh was bluffing. Now I think the NFL HAS to punish the Patriots again for their lack of forthcoming as well as the extra tapes. And if they did cover up the presence of these other tapes and lie about it to the commish, I think the punishment has to be more severe for this one than for the last one. -

QUOTE (Texsox @ May 8, 2008 -> 09:28 AM) I'm just not happy with changing the rules in mid stream. I am also not happy with delegates not having their voices heard. So there was no win anywhere that I saw. Those that followed Michigan closer please chime in but, it seems like Michigan would have been a Clinton state and in a straight up, "normal" primary, it would be fair to say at that point in the campaign she would have won. I know that you could not point to anything to "prove" that statement, JMO Here's the one big issue and big reason for allowing them in...November. If you're going to put a middle finger to Michigan and Florida in the spring, then why shouldn't they do the same to your party in the fall? That's 95% of the motivation for getting something done. -

Exactly. The amazing thing is, this actually hurts Hillary. Because his margin ahead of her is so big compared to the amount of delegates left, all this does is move it closer to completion. -
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 8, 2008 -> 09:17 AM) Ozeroo with the magical line-up again. Why is Brian Anderson never allowed to start. I think Swisher got a hit or two last night but come on he has done nothing and Konerko is an absolute embarrassment. It is almost as though Ozwaldo refuses to even want to make a move or that for some reason if Thome, Konerko or Dye are moved in the line-up the team will be unable to function. Brian Anderson touches himself at night. Honestly though, the amazing thing about this lineup is we're seeing something I thought we'd never see. A day off for Cabrera! (Craps pants). Anyway, yes, Anderson ought to start each day of the next week in CF, and they ought to give 2 days off to Thome and Konerko and a day off each to Dye, Swisher, and Quentin. Sadly, it just keeps not happening. But at least OC Finally gets a day off. Man he's needed one for a while now.

QUOTE (Texsox @ May 8, 2008 -> 08:04 AM) Agreed. Managing money and media is a huge factor and winning today. And, just like the presidential election process has very little to do with your ability to actually do the job of running the country, managing the media and fundraising with party big-wigs has very little to do with your ability to be a sound representative/senator/governor/whatever. We've built up a system where the olympic team for the 100 meter dash is decided by the skills of the competitors at ice dancing.
-
QUOTE (Texsox @ May 8, 2008 -> 08:58 AM) So media and money prevent even better candidates from running? They may very well. The fact that you have to spend an inordinate amount of time raising funds has kept many a solid candidate away, because that's the dirty part of the job. But the other side of the token is...the media and money can also help prevent better candidates from winning.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 8, 2008 -> 07:19 AM) I think the current media climate is a big part of keeping some people away. It's hard enough to open your whole life to scrutiny, but then you're asking your family members to do it as well. I have less a problem with the media climate in terms of opening up your whole life and your whole family's life to scrutiny than I do with the way the media trivializes everything and ignores actual substantive discussion on anything other than the gas tax (that was actually remarkable, for a week or so, the entire political discussion focused on policy. I nearly crapped my pants). There are actually fundamental differences between the candidates on many issues. Health care, the environment, the makeup of the judiciary, the war, and on and on. But we never hear about these. It's vastly more important whether or not you'd rather have a beer with a candidate, which for some reason has been treated as this wonderful standard of who to vote for.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 8, 2008 -> 07:18 AM) Agreed. I'm sure every franchise is the NFL was doing this. And what if they weren't? 2 of the 3 guys who made a run at 60 home runs in 1998 were juicing. Does that mean we should assume the 3rd was also? And furthermore...there's an old adage that "The coverup is worse than the crime". Belicheck lost a draft pick, apologized to everyone else, etc...but for a moment, let's say he told the NFL Commish that the Jets were the only team who's signals he videotaped. Suddenly video shows up that proves he's taped many other teams beforehand. Doesn't that fundamentally change things, if he's going to lie to the commish? -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 7, 2008 -> 07:27 PM) You have to put blame on Walker after a while. Pierzynski was a 300 hitter before coming to the Sox. Thome was a prominent hitter (though age/injuries have slowed him down), Swisher has looked nothing like the one from OAK, Cabrera is hitting .200, Uribe just continues his decline.... Actually, Pierzynski was not a .300 hitter before coming to the Sox...he only hit .272 with the Giants hte year before he came to CHW. -

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 7, 2008 -> 06:33 PM) WOW! John Zogby: 30 in 48 hours? We've heard about these blocks before. They haven't happened, and if it didn't happen today I don't think we'll get that kind of movement soon. I could believe 30 within a week though. FWIW, the NYT includes a detail suggesting some of the opposite thinking. That they're not prepared to end it yet, but there are now limits to the type of rhetoric that people are going to tolerate from the Clintons before shunning them completely...which is the right call IMO.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2008 -> 06:20 PM) Wait, I thought that previous post said Swisher bobbles the ball. Quentin's been perfect out there besides for two fluke plays. After seeing what "Below average" means in CF more times than I ever want to think about again, I can more than live with a guy who bobbles the ball out there a few times. Just get to an average number of them and I'll live with it, and Swish does that. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2008 -> 06:17 PM) I don't think Swisher is bad defensively (he's been a pleasant surprise), but I agree with your specific observations. Overall, I think it's probably fair to say that a Quentin, Swisher, Dye OF, defensively, is Above average (due to his arm), Average, below average, left to right. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2008 -> 06:12 PM) When you strike out on a 60 mph curve, you know you're not hitting very well. Why do we continue to play PK with this hand injury? Because Brian Anderson touches himself at night.
