  1. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 4, 2008 -> 03:23 PM) where do you get your "inside info"? Not that you have to disclose your sources, i am just curious how you get this info. A large smattering of blogs...many of which are receiving the same leaks.
  2. On the other hand, I'm also reading that Ohio actually seems to be coming out closer than some of the recent polling would have suggested.
  3. Don't have the data, but rumor has exit polls showing a slight Hillary lead in both OH and TX.
  4. I haven't seen any exit polls yet, but the overall polling data that is out there for the last couple days seems an awful lot like New Hampshire. A close race breaking Hillary's way in each of the major states and nationally as well.
  5. QUOTE(Pants Rowland @ Mar 4, 2008 -> 12:44 PM) The story on Whitesox.com notes that he is fulfilling Singleton's one year contract for 2008. I hope this is going to be more permanent than a one year rental until Stone heads to the Cubs front office or back to the TV booth for Len Kaspar under the new ownership group. Even if it's just temporary, it does set us up to be able to retool anywhere we decide we need to next year. A lot probably depends on how much Stone wants to do.
  6. QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Mar 4, 2008 -> 11:13 AM) All i'm gonna say is that let's see if Manning and Brady last 17 years and if they do see if their averages stay that high. So then you're saying another valid exercise would be to compare their performances in their prime years?
  7. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Mar 4, 2008 -> 09:56 AM) If you want to go by the stats. Than Favre is the best QB ever. He has the most wins, the most td's, the most completions. Everything, he has the most everything. Oh and he won three MVP's. So I guess he is the best. He also has the most interceptions, and therefore he's the worst QB Ever. Or, we could all just stop this silliness and accept the fact that ALL of the career numbers are altered by the fact that he played for so long and that the current generation of QB's hasn't even had the chance to do that yet.
  8. The starting QB's in the NFC North next year, as things currently stand are Aaron Rogers Rex Grossman Tavaris Jackson John Kitna.
  9. And at this news, I'm rapidly renewing Gameday audio.
  10. QUOTE(SoxPride56 @ Mar 4, 2008 -> 08:45 AM) Why don't we look at wins and TD passes as well then? So, Favre is better because Manning and Brady haven't been in the league as long?
  11. QUOTE(AngelasDaddy0427 @ Mar 3, 2008 -> 06:57 PM) VT is the same as RI. Do you even bother reading numbers at all? Repeated polling data shows Obama with a 20-30 point lead in Vermont.
  12. QUOTE(The Critic @ Mar 3, 2008 -> 06:07 PM) I completely agree. Maybe a couple of the Cubs guys pan out for the Orioles, whereas Brian Roberts alone doesn't really help them now or in the future. If they parlay their highly-paid veterans into a decent amount of prospects and then get lucky with a fair amount of them, they might be able to rise back to relevance. More than that, look how Tampa Bay did it. If they stink for a few years, they pile up top 10 draft picks, some of whom hit the big leagues at a reasonable cost. Suddenly they're looking at Markakis and Jones in the OF, both still cheap, a couple of other cheap guys in the IF, and the ability to sign a guy or two to fill holes. You have to be patient, which Angelos has not been so far. But even in the AL East, a solid rebuilding plan can put you over the top.
  13. QUOTE(The Critic @ Mar 3, 2008 -> 05:19 PM) Marshall - "lefty rotation prospect" who doesn't make any money Gallagher - "bullpen depth" who doesn't make any money Cedeno - "change of scenery" who doesn't make any money Murton - "untapped potential" who doesn't make any money The second part of each description is the real reason, the first part is how they'll sell it to their fans. (They still have fans, right?) With the mess that the Orioles have been over the past decade or so, sucking with players who don't make a lot of money is still a step above sucking with a few players making a good amount of money. At least maybe you're building something around guys like Markakis if you're sucking with guys who don't make much money.
  14. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 3, 2008 -> 05:00 PM) I'd like to see them try to fill in their minors again to make up for the players that they dealt. If they did target someone like a ML pitcher...albeit Lowry seems no longer to be an option...one thing that could always be done is to spin that pitcher off to the national league, where there are probably 10 teams who could use a guy who will do nothing other than give them an ERA of 5 over 175 innings.
  15. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 3, 2008 -> 05:03 PM) It wasnt their ability that made them bad, it was the fact that they were injured the entire season. There also werent really any betterin house options. Jerry could very well end up being a good lead off hitter. Of course the only player that has really seriously been mentioned as the lead off hitter in the papers has been Swish, but that hasnt stopped Soxtalk from jumping to its collective conclusions. With Erstad, yes it was. A healthy Darin Erstad just isn't that good.
  16. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 3, 2008 -> 03:18 PM) I saw that this morning, and I was trying to think of why they care about those particular houses. Rural cluster developments = bad, in their view apparently. Not that it matters much what they think. They're just common criminals who happen to also be good at destroying their own causes. In general, urban sprawl is a very bad thing for the environment. From increasing commutes to the resources required to bring utilities, sewer, etc., out to a distance from even a small urban center, the impact is large. From an environmental perspective, high density areas actually have significant advantages. Shorter commutes, fewer cars on the road, less wasted energy in transportation, etc. Not as large as burning down a house of course, but still.
  17. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 3, 2008 -> 01:45 PM) I have a feeling the popular vote will be pretty close, maybe +5% for Obama. I'm guessing he'll do quite well in the caucus. I think I read somewhere that 67 of the Texas delegates will be awarded based on the caucus results. I'd say 37-40 of those delegates will go to Obama. The other fun part is that from what I've read, a significant number of the districts Texas apportions in the primary section are 4 delegate districts. In other words, if a candidate wins them all 60-40, the delegate count comes out tied, a candidate needs to do something like 65-35 in one of those districts to come out with a delegate advantage. So for the most part, the primary is going to be a wash except for the vote totals, and the Caucus will be most of the delegate difference.
  18. So, for Texas, I'm not sure how to read these predictions. Are those predictions in the primary part, the caucus part, or delegate predictions?
  19. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Mar 2, 2008 -> 01:11 PM) I think this argument is flawed. Jerry Owens has almost zero baseball intelligence. However, Brian Anderson had the job handed to him in 2006 and admitted to being unprepared. Yet he still had time to enjoy the Chicago nightlife. Where does the statement that JO has zero baseball intelligence come from? I could expect someone to say that about Anderson, but why Owens?
  20. Unfortunately...right now, after the Swisher trade, the Sox have 3 OF's who are in a better position to receive playing time before Anderson. After Anderson's struggles in the big leagues, I think you'd have to be crazy to put Anderson ahead of Quentin in the rotation unless Quentin is still hurt, and so far he doesn't seem to be.
  21. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 1, 2008 -> 04:07 PM) Actually Balta its the opposite. Early on with the split squads and the large contingent you see a lot of scrubs after the first time through the order. Later on when they thin out the rosters a bit is when you see the starters going deeper into the games. I mean in the early innings of a game. We at least had guys like Drew, Snyder, and Upton in the starting lineup today. And Floyd was the starting pitcher.
  22. QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 1, 2008 -> 03:49 PM) Spring games tend to be like AAA games though. A lot of at bats by guys who won't be on the 25 man til August or Sept. But, usually those happen later in games, so earlier in games guys do get to face some of the starters.
