QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 1, 2008 -> 03:18 PM) How did Gavin do? The line for him says 3 IP, 2 runs, 3 hits, 1 walk, 1 k. Gave up a double to Emilio Bonifacio in both the 1st and the 3rd innings, both of which were described as "Speed" doubles meaning he got the 2nd base on the OF. One run scored on a sac fly by Drew, another run scored on a double by Snyder.

Follks...KHP was clearly being sarcastic with that deal. He's noting how stupid the Dodgers are being for constantly blocking their young guys with mid to low grade players.

Is the media getting a free pass in the steroid issue?
Balta1701 replied to SoxFan562004's topic in The Diamond Club
One little blurb i did find in that article that I think goes against your contention here... Could the media have done more? Always. But it was articles in the media that led to things like the fans in Boston chanting "Steroids" at Canseco all the way back in 88 in the ALCS. It was a media member who wrote about the Andro bottle in McGwire's locker and caused a lot of other people to go nuts over how the media had violated Mac's privacy. -
For anyone who thought the housing market might be starting to approach a bottom, the NYT has a column today noting that in a few of the roughest areas, in January (admittedly part of the slow sale part of the season according to their graph)...the number of new foreclosures actually approached or even topped the number of new sales. In other words, foreclosures alone in these areas are creating more vacant housing than can be sold, let alone anyone who actually wants to sell who isn't being foreclosed on.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 1, 2008 -> 02:28 PM) He certainly did (and now continues to). He was asked, and now he makes it a point to not wear one because "I show my patriotism in other ways"... he's making a point. So, once someone else asked him about why he wasn't wearing one, either he's making a point because he continues to not wear one, or he starts wearing one to make a different point. Either way it's his fault, right?

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 28, 2008 -> 11:26 AM) They DID change their practices (for the most part... before Balta goes googling). There's more double-hulled ships now, and some things have definitely changed. I see your point... but there's a fine line there. And it CERTAINLY gets passed on. By the way...I actually did some of the requested Googling tonight...turns out Exxon is actually still running single-hulled ships on the Alaska route. Did not know that. Learn something surprising every day. Hopefully at least they're keeping their captains' sober these days.

Hillary Clinton will reportedly be on the Daily Show next Monday.

The Republicans today rejected another 30 day extension of the Protect America Act, aka the most important law ever and if we don't pass it immediately we'll all die. The Attorney General also has refused to act on contempt citations that teh Congress finally issued in the Attorney purge scandal.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 04:37 PM) That, I don't know. It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out. Certainly a black eye for baseball to have arguably the greatest hitter and greatest pitcher of their era both under investigation for PEDs and perjury. Doesn't seem to be affecting ticket sales, though, so I'm not sure how much Joe Fan cares. I think baseball's a bit lucky in that they care but not enough to stop going. The Boo's for Bonds came from everyone outside of S.F. it seemed.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 02:58 PM) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3271173 More positive tests? According to this story, yes. Did they actually get access to the 2003 MLB tests?

A good piece on how the consensus view on Global Warming is almost certainly underestimating the true magnitude of the problem in order to create a consensus view. And some fun with billboards.

Senator Claire McCaskill, D-MO, who has endorsed Sen. Obama in the campaign, has introduced a bill to the Senate that would define "Natural Born Citizens" as written in the constitution to include any person born to any citizen of the United States while serving in the active or reserve components of the United States Armed Forces. Senator Obama is now co-sponsoring the bill.

Hillary personally hits the 3:00 a.m. phone ringing garbage issue. We're what, 2 days away from the ad of Obama's face morphing in to Bin Laden's face at th?

Basically all after Florida, after becoming the presumptive nominee, John McCain raised $12 million in Feb. according to CNN. That's basically 1/3 of Hillary's take and rumor has it less than 1/4 of Obama's.

QUOTE(JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 12:49 PM) I don't want him either, but that's just what I hear. Lowry is really only surviving on name alone. He used to be highly touted like Lincecum is. If the White Sox were to trade for Lowry, they ought to immediately try to swap him for a recent draft pick or something like that from some other NL team. Cardinals, Astros, Reds, Mets, Phillies, etc., lotta teams out there that could use another body to put on the mound.

Well, maybe the good news is that Wasserman will have a shot at making the bullpen after all.

I'm going to hope this is a mistake, but this is what the front page of CNN.com is showing right now on its stock ticker for me.

QUOTE(Cknolls @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 12:21 PM) I just have to laugh at Vallejo. These people are really brilliant. Property values can never go down. I'm fairly certain that the policy of the last 2 fed chiefs either directly or indirectly assumed that.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 11:58 AM) Senator Jay Rockefeller, the Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, endorsed Barack Obama today. Well, if I can ignore the Farrakhan endorsement...

QUOTE(Cknolls @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 10:45 AM) Nearly $50 trillion CDS CDO and levered loans out there. Try to avoid the boulder folks. You can't be serious with that number can you?

Seriously? Hillary? Seriously? My word. Wow. BO replies to this ad. :o :o Seriously? Are you kidding me? Talk about no "beef"! Just scare the $h1T out of everyone. Sadly, we're not making that up. That's a real ad. And yet another reason why I don't want to vote for her in November. Because when she gets desperate, she runs the "Vote for me or your children will die!" ad.

QUOTE(knightni @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 10:03 AM) I never said that Peterson was the answer, but he got those 3 yd/carry games and 100 yard game when the O-Line was at its worst. Benson had less than 3 yards a carry in 5 of his 11 games, getting 100 yards once. And, for the most part, those games were with a healthy O-Line. Dude, simply saying that the O-Line was healthy early in the season doesn't mean they weren't playing like garbage. -
Tigers talking to Cabrera about a long term deal.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 09:40 AM) I'd have no problem with it. Ok, deal. I'll proofread your LTE to the Tribune asking why they're not covering this if you'd like
