    Who is dieting?

Oh, and stay out of the "Food" thread. It doesn't help.
  2. QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) so, to educate a guy who doesnt know a ton about Quentin.... do we know for sure that his injury happened AFTER his minor league success last year? or can it still simply be that he's great at AAA and bad in the majors? Quentin's initial injury happened in March, torn left labrum. For the D-Backs, it appears in 07 he was used in the Brian Anderson, quasi every day player for the first 3 months of the season. 41 at bats in April, 84 in May, 66 in June. He was demoted in early July, and was recalled some point thereafter before being put on the 15 day DL on August 2nd for a different injury, to his right hamstring. He was recalled for a few AB's in September, but then proceeded to have the surgery to fix his shoulder in October. So he had his minor league success while still injured.
  3. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 02:37 PM) That's hard to say. Kirilenko is kind of a hybrid forward. I'd say he's a bigger SF than a PF but I'm sure he could play PF if he had to. He just has a small body frame that would have to go up against other bigger guys. The problem is, the Bulls already like to go with that hybrid/small lineup and use guys like Noc, Thabo, and Deng, to give them that smaller lineup. Bringing in Kirilenko would pretty much mean that they'd have to always play like that just to give guys minutes. I don't think you can do it successfully with that roster unless you move someone.
  4. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 02:29 PM) Do Kirilenko and Deng fit as the SF/PF's though? I think that deal might require the Bulls have to find a way to move either Deng or Noc, because they'd be right back in the "not enough minutes for the players they have" slot that they're in now, just at a different position. That'd clear out more C/PF playing time for Tyrus and Noah which is good, but that'd put a constant small lineup out there in order to get minutes for those 3, which is bad.
  5. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 02:16 PM) I'd take Ben Wallace on the Jazz, but the Jazz probably don't have anything to give up for him. Boozer and Williams are staying in Utah. Kirilenko's salary matches with Wallace's straight up. The Bulls really can't include anything more without getting someone else back though.
  6. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 01:49 PM) And to further point out the relative meaninglessness of these lists and their rankings: 2001 Rauch #3 Borchard #23 Crede #36 Ginter #44 Dan Wright #61 One of those 5 (for which we were ranked the top farm system) turned into a major league starter. While the 2 most successful major league players thus far from our system from this time, Buehrle and Rowand, were never ranked in their top 100 list, and the "can't miss" guys Rauch and Borchard...missed. It's actually an interesting exercise to go back through some of the old BA lists and take a look at how things turned out. Although they may have improved in recent years somewhat (can't judge a lot yet)...it looks to me like if you go back and look at their top 10's, top 20's, etc., they wind up batting about .500 in their top 10's on guys who turn out to be legit major league studs like you'd expect for top 10 prospects in baseball.

    Who is dieting?

I've been sort of on a half-diet, half strength training/exercise program for about a year/year and a half now. I think it's worked pretty well. I started off at about 210 lb on a good day, dropped to a low of 168, and from that point I've put on 10-15 lbs but I think most of that has actually been muscle. Pretty much has been a matter of adding more fruit, trying to add in a few more whole grains, and trying to cut out some of the unhealthy snacks, add extra vegetables to dinner, and be a little bit more controlled about my lunch (i.e. today had a light yogurt smoothie and have an apple for a little while from now). That plus adding in a consistent program of exercise and weight training has done pretty well.
  8. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 12:50 PM) Didn't Richardson endorse Hillary? You can throw NM into her column now. Richardson has not yet endorsed and continues to say he is not ready to do so yet.
  9. By the way...does anyone think we've officially seen the last of teams resting their regulars in week 17 if they have nothing to play for?
  10. While we're at it, Easterbrook gives the summary of pretty much where everything stands Re: the Pats videotaping scandal.
  11. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 08:15 AM) fool me once, shame on you. fool me twice, shame on me. Where'd you get that one? I've only heard it as "Fool me once, shame on, shame on you...(10 second pause)...fool....you can't get fooled again."
  12. So, as one of the positive people...right now, I think the White Sox have the players where if things go well, they could easily compete with any other team in the league. Even with Danks and Floyd and all of the things everyone is so scared about. However, they are not legit contenders yet. They're not contenders until they start winning some games. There's an awful lot of pitfalls that could get in the way. Maybe more than other teams yes, but this is why they play the games. We've got a team. Let's play some. And see what happens.
  13. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Feb 3, 2008 -> 08:45 PM) I was thinking about this a little bit too. But if I remember correctly Palmer was the heavy favorite and there were no other states mentioned. Very true, but they also made it clear that Palmer had to have someone running against him even though they didn't mention who it was, because there was a potential scandal involving his family that threatened to knock off the campaign, and that wouldn't have happened had he had things wrapped up.
  14. LOL. After last year...Hell, as long as nothing's actually hurting, he's proven he's on the path from becoming a good thrower to a great pitcher.
  15. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Feb 3, 2008 -> 08:38 PM) I lost 100 on the game, but honestly being a younger brother, I couldnt be happier. It's days like today that make me kind of sad that I'm not a betting man. I'd have had the Giants.
  16. By the way...is it just me, or has anyone else realized that this Tuesday seems to mark the exact plot line of season 1 of 24. The day of the California Presidential Primary, an African American Senator...with a chance to win that primary and become the first African American President...
  17. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 3, 2008 -> 02:19 PM) Isnt PJ Brown still getting paid on his expiring contract that is still tradeable? In terms of it counting against the cap, i dont know if there is an exemption for retired players As I understand it, no he's not getting paid. He's sitting around somewhere essentially retired. But, if the Bulls felt the urge, they still have the rights to sign him to a deal & use his contract to match some other player's contract in a sign and trade because they held his rights last year. If he wanted to play, he could also sign with some other team right now. In terms of Shaq, if he retired, I believe that ends his contract with the Heat and he loses the money. Hence, he has zero motivation to retire. If he spends all his time on the bench, or on the injured list, he still gets paid.
  18. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 3, 2008 -> 07:44 PM) It reminded me of what happened to USC in the Rose Bowl. Pete Carroll goes for it on 4th and 2, risking giving Vince Young a short field, and keeps Reggie Bush out. Belichick and Carroll are great coaches, but you could argue they'd both have one more ring if not for their own arrogance. Could it be that Gostkowski said he just couldn't kick that one?
  19. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 3, 2008 -> 07:40 PM) *sweet dreams...* I just can't resist. I know, I know, my record isn't that good when I get my hopes up. But hey, that Manning pass was completed. So why not another prayer of a toss here?
  20. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 3, 2008 -> 04:02 PM) New Suffolk poll shows the same - Obama +1. That's the three most recent polls all showing an Obama lead in CA, the biggest prize on SDOGPEIT. Dare I say it? Instead of just trying to keep pace on SDOGPEIT or stay close, might Obama actually WIN SDOGPEIT? He actually has a chance. He does that, plus the lead he already has in delegates, and with his superior head-to-head results agains the GOP (of which the Dem superdelegates are, I am sure, aware)... I think that makes him the front-runner. He has a shot. Even essentially nearly a tie in delegates would be enough, as he's not the front runner, and from what I've read, the rest of Feb. is more favorable to him than Tuesday. Especially since his fundraising seems to be going crazy while Hillary is kind of hitting the wall since so much more of her support comes from big donors that can't give any more.
  21. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 3, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) So which is the most important state for either candidate to win on Tuesday (and that's for both Democrats and Republicans)? For the Republicans...well, it's hard to say. Romney would need a bunch of surprises. For the Dems, it's us. Of the 3 biggest prizes, one is NY, one is IL, and the biggest is CA. Everything else looks to be close enough that pulling out a win in CA, especially if it's by more than a tiny bit, would be gigantic. Especially since there's no WTA states for us.
  22. I bet if this was a story about Canadians going somewhere for health coverage, the other side would be all over it.
  23. QUOTE(wsgdf_2 @ Feb 2, 2008 -> 04:13 PM) I'd take .825-.850... I'm not ready to put Thome's expectations on him quite yet... but I like the optimism! I believe the question was not what numbers will he put up...but what numbers would he have to put up for someone to be willing to, ahem, "shine his knob".
  24. QUOTE(wsgdf_2 @ Feb 2, 2008 -> 03:57 PM) What kind of numbers would he have to put up? Get that OPS somewhere in the .925-.950 range, like he's shown he can do at AAA...
