QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 05:47 PM) So Hillary's lead in CA is down a bit, but not much. But that 20% undecided is interesting. I wonder how SC and the press with it will effect that 20%. Or the debates in CA coming up later this month. Clinton needs to make a big mistake for it to matter, IMO. Like blaming all the wars in the world on the Jews, or something like that.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 05:42 PM) And, I got a note from JFKerry - going after Clinton's tactics... I got a rock... (Well, that and I got a much more useful poll of the prize, California:)

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 05:12 PM) Well it's why the Sox are in such a tough situation. I agree it doesn't make sense but can you go into 2008 with a 7 man pen, and not have any of those guys be able to throw more than 2 innings, especially with 3 questionable starting pitchers? Right now, I'd say Wasserman will probably start 2008 in Charlotte. But it all depends on what they do with MacDougal. Can they fix him? Will he pitch better in more easier scenarios for him? I don't like the fact he doesn't like being put into those pressure situations though. But keep in mind, the team just chose a moment ago to put itself in this situation. A moment ago they were looking at having a pen of Jenks, Thor, Logan, Wasserman, MMac, and Linebrink, with potential #7 guys being Broadway, Masset, Haeger, and Aardsma. One thing that 3 of those 4 options have in common is that they all could easily be expected to be long men. So, we've basically given up the option of having a long man in favor of having an extra short man, and on top of that it cost us Aardsma and probably Masset shortly since he's out of options. I haven't been a fan of Dotel, but that's another reason why I'm not big into this deal.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 05:04 PM) Ahhh yes you're right, my math is a bit off today. But it probably shows why a MacDougal could certainly be traded, or you could find Wasserman in AAA to start in 2008. Ozzie will probably want to carry 2 lefties at least, so Thornton and Logan are probably safe, hence why Mac or Ehren are probably on the hot seat right now. The problem with trading MMac is that it still makes very little sense to trade a guy when he's possibly at the lowest value he could be at. Another bad season, and how much does his value go down? Not much, because any team acquiring him is hoping for a comeback anyway.

The other question is...should a former President carry himself with more dignity than to join in a campaign as an attack dog, regardless of whether or not one of his family members is running. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I certainly don't recall 41 going out on the campaign trail and joining in the "McCain has an illegitimate black daughter" stuff from 00.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 03:09 PM) so who is our mop-up guy when Floyd and Danks can't get through the 5th? With a 7 man pen and the 2 solid innings-eaters at the front of the rotation, the answer to that question probably is "Whoever didn't pitch yesterday". I still expect Ozzie to get fewer innings out of his pen than you'd think coming in to the season. Especially with Floyd and Contreras, if they get in trouble, he's going to give them the chance to struggle through it, exactly as he did with Garland and exactly as he's done with many of his other guys when they hit rough spots. He'll give his starters every chance to do the job. Danks I'm uncertain how he'll treat him, just because of the innings/work issue.

QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 03:02 PM) And for the buy now/wait convo - isn't a lot of that the higher end homes? I mean, if he's looking at the 200k range, isn't that usually safe? You might lose 5-10k, maybe 15k, but that's nothing compared to the 2-300k+ the morons (yes morons for buying such property) in California are losing. On the other side of that token though is the fact that you would expect his rent to be significantly lower out there. Hence, I'm paying more in rent than what some people here are paying in mortgages. If, for example, he were to pay $500 a month, that's a $6000 bill for 1 year. If $15k is the potential drop (I think that's maybe in the middle, I think 30% is entirely possible in many areas and 15% could well be the nationwide average, although it's hard to say anything more without knowing that specific market...but I'd still say there's a solid chance of bigger drops than that)...then that's nearly $10,000 in price that you could save by renting for a year and then buying after further drops, and that's not even considering a higher end home or bigger price drops.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 02:36 PM) did you know that the non white guy was a lawyer for a slum lord? he was. just shows what kind of person you would vote for. Without knowing everything about the case, it is probably worth pointing out that even the worst person in the world deserves fair and qualified legal representation in our system. Although, since the non white guy has been planning to run for President since he was in Kindergarten, you'd think he'd have been more careful about his client list and only accepted business from the cleanest of the clean, because the non-guy would obviously go after him for that.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 02:14 PM) that would be interesting giving Walker's slam of sox fans when he was with the kitties. And...you know, naming his kid after Jim Leyland...

QUOTE(Soxy @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 02:14 PM) But who will watch without the actors? Hell, I only watch to see the fashion. With the sides talking again and a DGA contract giving the blueprint, I think something will get done before the Oscars. Not only does it make a lot of money for the network broadcasting it, but perhaps more importantly, it's a gigantic commercial for the movies involved. It's literally hundreds of millions of dollars of free marketing. Those studios have too much to lose if they lose people from that show.,

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 02:03 PM) I thought bear was 10% reduction. So this would just be a Cub market? Nobody's winning, and nobody's losing enough to care? We need about another 100 years of losing before its anywhere close to a cub market. After about the 50th year, the stockbrokers start sacrificing goats, it just gets messy.

Not to be too glib, but has filming wrapped completely on the next Batman movie?

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 01:49 PM) I would imagine Mr. and Mrs. Aardsma. I would much rather keep Masset, but if there's anyway Aardsma can come back to the Sox, whether it be AAA or whatever, I would love to see it. I still think he's got a good upside. Only if no one else is willing to sign him once he hits waivers. And some team is almost certain to do that. Enough teams out there need bullpen help that he won't slip by everyone, unless there's some sort of gentlemen's agreement with a lot of teams.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 01:46 PM) I'd rather keep a guy who has a good arm still with some potential over some crappy A ball catcher or some fat shortstop who can't even hit his weight. I'll agree to this one. There must be some personal issues or something else adding in to this move, otherwise I find it hard to believe that they'd move AAA at this point.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 01:06 PM) I posted something similar in the cubs Roberts thread over in the Diamond Club. I think a Boone Logan/Jaime Walker discussion should be had as well. Cheap LOOGY for bad contract LOOGY.... You'd seriously give up Booooooone for Jamie Walker?

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 12:52 PM) Am I the only one who thinks Bobby Jenks + Uribe and maybe a Lance Broadway (or at most Gavin Floyd) could net Erik Bedard? With Dotel/Linebrink/MacDougal already don't we all think its worth it to get the type of talent Bedard is?? I think this would instantly make us contenders in the AL Central and the Orioles would be nuts to not bite on that package that gives them a young SP from the Baltimore area (if it was in fact Floyd), a SS they desperately need (even if he does like Krispy Kreme a bit too much), and a young closer in his arb years who just might be the best at what he does. Am I insane? If Baltimore thought they had a shot at competing next year they might be up for that. But here's the problem. He's out right now for this year, but Baltimore has a young closer in Chris Ray who may be back and pitching again in 2009. And if they're committing to a multi year rebuilding process, Jenks would only hurt that process as he'll be departing at just about the point they'd want him to be staying. If they'd do it, I'd probably be open to it, but if I was B-More's GM, I wouldn't consider it. I want guys who can help me 2-3 years from now, not guys who can help me now.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 11:40 AM) now contrast that to somewhere like Pakistan today... That's my point. Our army is almost entirely overseas today. They can't stage a coup here as easily.

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 10:04 AM) With the feds cutting rates like crazy, it might not be a bad time to take out a mortgage. All I'll add again is...take your time. With the markets dropping, this probably won't be the last rate cut before this is over. And right now, this is the definition of a buyer's market. If you can't get a home you like for the price you want with the mortgage you like, wait a couple weeks and see what happens.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 10:13 AM) Half of the Dems love her. The other half despises her. She epitomizes the word polarizing. It's actually slightly less than half, if you pay attention to polling data and votes. Something like 40%.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 10:30 AM) Besides if you really want to believe the worst of a party, wouldn't it be much easier just to steal another election, and install another proxy President, instead of risking a HUGE public backlash? The only way you can get that conspiracy is if none of the Republicans can get a majority and Jed steps in to save the day in a brokered convention.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 10:28 AM) KW apparently wasn't, and he was the one bragging about how no one else but he saw Aaardsma turn a corner with the Cubs in 2006. And unfortunately, KW totally f***ed this one up.
