QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 01:05 PM) Oh, go get some jack in the box tacos. I will never eat at that f***ing place. It's ads are the only ones worse than Burger King.

I would just like to add that I hate you all.
  3. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 12:47 PM) Tonites starter for the Orioles, Hayden Penn, vs the Tigers, has something like a 36.00 ERA, 3 2/3 innings, 17 hits, 15 earned runs. If he was pitching against us, he'd probaby throw 5 shutout innings. Seems that always happens when we get hit with a young guy.
  4. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 11:24 AM) Well let me ask...is Uribe, at this point, too expensive to be a super-sub? If the Sox could keep him and use him off the bench, that would be just awesome. $4.15 million is an awful lot for a super sub.
  5. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 10:57 AM) If we get Young, I hope it's to play second. He'd be a welcome addition offensively, but he'd hurt Buehrle and Garland a helluva lot, too. I'm not totally sure how much Young would actually hurt Garland/Buehrle. Not nearly as much as the occasional Mack in CF has hurt them, I'm sure of that. Young is actually recording more outs/9innings than Uribe (does Texas throw out more sinkerballers than we do? I don't think so but I could be wrong). He's turned more double plays, has a fielding percentage slightly higher than Uribe. His ZR isn't spectacular, but it's not terrible either. At his best, Uribe is probably quite a bit better than Young, especially with that cannon for an arm. But we haven't seen Uribe at his best very much this season, IMO. How good would an infield of Crede, Uribe, Young, and Konerko be? Iguchi is a FA after 2007 IIRC.
  6. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 10:51 AM) I'm glad to see I am not the only one who feels this way about the Sudan. As usual, nothing is being said about this because it is in Africa. I found this on MSNBC, not in the headlines, but under the section for newsweek articles. Of course when it should be trumpeded around the world to appeal for a stop to the violence, the headlines are all about Bush v Powell and Ney's guilt. Sad. At least George Clooney is doing his part.
  7. The IAEA slammed a Congressional report which tried to spin its way into concluding that Iran was rapidly developing nuclear weapons.
  8. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 10:34 AM) Um, yes. Unfortunately, or military is too busy fighting us out of the sixth crusade in Iraq to do anything about it. And unfortunately, the U.N. doesn't have the balls to do anything about it either.
  9. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 10:10 AM) Yeah, I think I am going to grab a couple of Miller Lites to go with my hotdogs with ketchup Hmmm...this does seem like an issue that should be taken up by the men of the square table...
  10. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 09:54 AM) Not the same guy. Not the same Frank either. QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 10:09 AM) another wciu game. awesome Mother F***er. Well, at least they're in Oakland, so hopefully Extra Innings should carry the game with Oakland's announcers.
  11. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 10:05 AM) If we have the same death with less Troops, I could still accept that. It would allow for more Troops to be deployed elsewhere. But if Troops go down and deaths go up, we haven't gained anything in my accounting. Well, then I would point out that the number of troops has increased over the past 3 months or so, and at the same time, the level of violence even just in Baghdad has increased over the same time, let alone the fact that we've pulled troops out of other areas and put them into Baghdad (leaving places like Anbar less secure). If we want to start talking about more troops actually securing that country, we literally need to start finding a few hundred thousand more troops. Because 150k, which is about the limit for our current army, just hasn't been enough to do the job, and the fact that they're there but also not able to do the job makes the entire strategic situation for the United States worse, and probably worsens the violence in Iraq as well.
  12. Interesting read: Why is winter gasoline less expensive?
  13. I have one word to describe the work on this bill: Obamatastic.
  14. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 09:41 AM) No thanks. Bust him inside with 2 seamers and he will get himself out. I only say that because of what Frank did last time he faced Garland.
  15. Keep it up Jon. Garland must step up today. Loaiza has been in a groove lately, and it seems he's found a significant chunk of that velocity that disappeared after the 2003 season. He is probably going to pitch a good game. Which means that Jon Garland will need to pitch a better one. And Jon...if you have to...just pitch around Frank this time.
  16. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 09:22 AM) So did Hicks say something about Young specifically or all the team's players in general? Both. Hicks has since tried to back off the commments
  17. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 09:14 AM) i can't see it competing with PS3 or X360 I for one have been wanting a new game system for some time (the ol' Super Nintendo just doesn't cut it) but I'm not sure I want to pay the price tag on the others.
  18. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 05:22 AM) We're there. If removing some Troops from harms' way makes the other more vulnerable, than I'd rather have them there. Bottom line, I want to see zero body bags coming out of the region. If that means 150,000 troops instead of 120,000, so be it. But what happens if the same number of body bags come out of the region with 150,000 troops in the area instead of 120,000? Or more?
  19. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 05:30 AM) I think historically dictators like this make the people around themselves so weak that when it comes time for succession, there ends up being an ugly brutal fight. Hopefully it at least means whoever takes over will look somewhat to the outside world for help because there are still an insane number of people dying of starvation there. NK is a mess after repeated (mostly self-imposed) famines, and terrible choices economically (way too much on military, nothing on things like food) the country is on the verge of collapse. Whoever takes over will probably have a revolution on their hands if they don't immediately and brutally make their "strength" known to the country. Well, there's 1 issue here though that I don't know if we've ever seen before except in the collapse of the Soviet Union...the potential for a significant change of power (i.e. a revolution and not an election) in a country that has nuclear weapons. That just sort of ratchets up the whole situation to another level. Whoever winds up with the support of whatever faction of the country controls the bombs may very well be the only one who has a chance to win. Or it could wind up totally destroying the country, and maybe taking Japan or Soeul out with it.
  20. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 11:15 PM) I don't like Hunter offensively at all. I (hope to any and all gods out there) wasn't one that said he wouldn't be an upgrade, but he is just an undisciplined hitter. Swinging at the first pitch after a pitcher walks the previous hitter on 4 pitches, watching the first pitch down the middle for a strike while swinging at the next pitch out of the zone, almost always trying to pull everything, regardless of the location of the pitch. If you make a mistake up and in, the ball is gone. If you keep the pitch away, low and away, up and away, he, by and large, will not beat you unless he is crowding the plate(in which case, knock him on his ass) Another year of development on Anderson...and he wouldn't be an upgrade by any stretch of the Imagination. Anderson is as good or better defensively already, Hunter's going to be making like $12 million next year while BA makes $400k, all Anderson needs to do is close the gap with the bat, which he's already doing.
  21. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 08:55 AM) It doesn't matter if you think both have speed or if we all see the obvious lack of speed from Podsednik, all that matters is what Ozzie Guillen sees and he's made his feelings pretty clear this year as to the leadoff hitter. He thinks Podsednik and Ozuna are the only players on this team that can leadoff for whatever reason and it's highly likely that these are the only 2 who are going to see any time in the 1 spot. Which of course, is why we all sit here and b*tch on a message board. (Not a personal attack on you, just pointing out that 3/4 of the fun of being on a message board is complaining about the decisions made by a manager)
  22. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 08:27 AM) my dream team next year LF Crawford SS Young RF Dye DH Thome 1B Kong C AJ 3b Crede 2B Guch CF BA Wake me up before I go go If they stayed healthy...that lineup would probably score well over 1000 runs.
  23. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 12:08 AM) I know man, but the issue is this. If you play Gload over Pods in LF against RHP, who's going to lead off? You'd have to play Sweeney over Anderson in CF, and let Sweeney leadoff, when he's probably not ready to do so, as most people would know. Gload's never going to leadoff or Mack, even though they have good numbers, because they don't have speed, and that's what Ozzie wants for the top of the lineup. Let's put it this way: If Ross Gload could come out and hit around .300 in regular playing time with at least non-trivial amounts of power, which is exactly what we've seen from him off the bench and in 2004 and in the minors last year... Scott Podsednik putting up a .255 average, stealing bases at a 70% clip, playing a poor defensive LF, and only getting on base about 32% of the time is a significant downgrade from Gload putting up a .300+ average, stealing fewer bases, having a higher OBP, still being weak in LF defensively, but maybe finding a little bit more power. Having fewer stolen bases at the top of our order would not cause our lineup or the universe to implode. If we had Kevin Youkilis leading off in front of Dye, Thome, Konerko, our lineup would be absolutely killer, and we'd have even fewer SB's. There is something to be said for getting on base and getting hits.
