  1. By the way, has anyone else noted that Arizona is a great place for Baj to try to develop...simply because he can't be any worse than the guys they ran out there in their bullpen last year? It's simply impossible. They could have used Kevin Walker, IMO.
  2. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 02:01 PM) Addy, I know there was some stuff in KC (after he made an error) to the effect of, "well, when you're only playing two days a week, it's tough". But I've never really gotten the Willie Harris-type-attitude-problem-vibe from Gload. That was the only thing I've ever heard Gload say, and it sure sounded to me like it had nothing to do with attitude...he sounded just pissed off at himself that he didn't make the play & it cost us the game. But then again, the moment that happened...people jumped on him for having a "bad attitude", and I still don't have a clue why, so my best guess is that there's more underlying it than just that quote.
  3. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 01:23 PM) Daunte Culpepper released a statement to ESPN that asked the Vikings to trade or release him. The ugly situation appears to be past the point of no return (to Minnesota) for Culpepper. "Now that I have confirmed that the Vikings have been seeking to trade me, I have asked for permission to speak to the interested teams. The Vikings have denied my request. If a trade does not happen then I am asking the Vikings to terminate my contract as soon as possible." I really have a feeling the Vikes are going to regret the moves they've made recently, especially with him. They better think they can land Brees.
  4. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 12:44 PM) I would much rather the Bears go after Brees but typical Bears they will go the cheap route and not want to challenge the "Great" Rex Grossman..... Brees only makes sense if the league comes to an agreement and sets up the higher cap, giving the Bears lots of room to hold onto the guys they do have. The Bears have multiple other needs they can fill through FA...especially in the secondary. Ramsey makes sense to me as a backup. But I wouldn't want to give up a 3rd round pick for him without getting another pick back, maybe in the 4-5th rounds also. Not if it's just a salary dump.
  5. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 01:57 PM) LOL great defense by Owens Time to put him in CF?
  6. RNW is technically correct, Crisp does have a higher career OBP....320 versus .332, with roughly the same number of at bats between the two.
  7. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 01:51 PM) Agreed, the roster looks all but set to me as well. Now let's just get everyone pitching and hitting like it's the regular season some time before April 2nd, and I'll be happy.
  8. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 01:50 PM) I simply pointed out that Cintron was making nearly two million dollars and the reason the deal was made is because the Diamondbacks didn't want to pay him, which contradicts some of the moves made by Kenny Williams this offseason. Actually I don't think it contradicts them that much at all. KW wants to build a team that can repeat, if not 3 peat. If he can get JR to spend the extra money to do so, then he's willing to spend the money. Look at the Vazquez deal...we took on a guy who makes a ton of money, probably more than he's worth, and all we got back in the deal was about $5 mil and the removal of El Duque's deal. Why? Because KW wanted a 5th starter who could kill any other 5th starter in baseball.
  9. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 01:46 PM) You'd send up Ozuna to the plate before Gload? :banghead Depends on who's pitching. If I've got a lefty on the mound, and Mack or Cintron or Borch all sitting on the Bench who can bat switch...then maybe I do send up Ozuna. Also might send him up if I need a bunt or if I need speed. Or if he's pinch hitting for anyone except our 1b/DH.
  10. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 01:46 PM) yes and after that Iguchi is still only arbitration eligible. Are you sure about that? At least with the Cubans, the Yankees keep putting that clause in which makes the team cut them if there's no contract signed to get around the 7 year arbitration period. I haven't a clue if we did the same thing with the Gooch, but I wouldn't be surprised if we did.
  11. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 01:45 PM) Good Move. Cintron is one of the best utility infielders in baseball. Wonder if this means that Mackowiak is gonna be the starting CF. Brian Anderson should at least get as long as Konerko and Dye had last year to figure things out with the bat. Talk to me at the end of June unless he can't catch the ball.
  12. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 01:42 PM) Only guy I can think of is Furcal. Same here. And I haven't seen Furcal enough to know which one is better (I will this year since he's in L.A.), but I feel pretty sure Uribe has better range.
  13. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 01:38 PM) Now does this mean Cintron will replace Gooch after this year and have Uribe move over to second? With Uribe's arm, he belongs on the left side of the infield. Almost no one else in baseball gets that last out in the world series.
  14. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 01:30 PM) Inning over on a groundout. I think it's pretty safe to say that Javier Lopez has won the second lefty job. I saw an interview of him on WhiteSox.com and he seems to be a great guy and great clubhouse guy. So does that mean we should anticipate KW trying to swing a deal involving Munoz before the end of the spring?
  15. Oh by the way, I'd like to take today as a chance to swear at the U.S. health care system one more time. 14 days before the Fiancee can get into the place her HMO referred her to in order to get an exam she needs.
  16. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 11:05 AM) These guys had better stop lying through their teeth, say they were involved with him, and move the hell on, or they ALL are going down, and down HARD. What you're not realizing is that when they look at their careers...it may be that fighting and denying his statements will stand them a better chance than admitting they knew him...if they more than knew him, and knew some level of the things he was doing. If there's something indictable in what they knew...then admitting they knew him is a big mistake.
  17. QUOTE(WCSox @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 08:16 AM) Call me selfish, but I'm not going to risk destroying my health and my family's well-being because somebody's having a heart attack. I would certainly think twice before performing mouth-to-mouth on a stranger. Well, can we at least point out that in this case, according to the press reports, the deceased was no stranger to the man who was told to stop the CPR, but in fact they were friends at some level?
  18. The arbitration clocks on all three of Sweeney, Fields, and Owens still have yet to start. There is simply no good reason to rush those guys to the big leagues. At least give them a few months in AAA. For their own sake as much as the team's.
  19. Other report: that book says Bonds was using Andro (which baseball had not banned but which is now banned and tested for) as early as '97.
  20. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 07:46 PM) After the fact like this, I'd say the only recourse for balance is an inquiry to see if the actions square with the authority reasonably understood to be vested in the executive. Not trying now to "fix FISA" to allow the program to continue without addressing its legality/constitutionality at the time it was authorized. Well, the one good bit of news you do have is that there are still several court challenges focused on the program. Who knows where they'll go. The Brooklyn Bridge blowtorch guy has filed to have his charges dismissed based on any evidence that was obtained through that program, and there are a couple of other larger challenges out there. But then again, if they won't inform Congress...who knows how they'll treat the courts, and it's certain to take years and a supreme court challenge just to get information out of the Administration, let alone actually deciding any cases.
  21. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 07:40 PM) Congress needs to ask the right questions. For sure. But, Congress doesn't set the policy for these items in wartime. That's the only thing. So where's the balance? Congress clearly has the legal right to pass laws setting policy during wartime. The War Powers act immediately comes to mind. As does McCain's recent Torture ban that we won't be following.
  22. QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 06:46 PM) For his sake I hope he makes it, but I really just don't see it happening....and I know all your Ross Gload lovers out there are also with me.....remember all the hullabulloo "Ross Gload will be the starting 1st baseman in 2006" If Konerko had left...he would have been basically our best option.
  23. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 05:35 PM) Am I an episode behind or something. Why the hell did I just read this thread. I just watched the one where they try to release the gas in the hospital. There were 2 on last night. The hospital was the first of the 2. The second...well maybe this thread should have a "Spoilers" mark on it.
  24. QUOTE(CrimsonWeltall @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 05:24 PM) I remember there were 3 safe areas. One was the big conference room most of the people are in. One was some medical area that I assume Tony and Henderson are in. I think the third was just some offices, but it could be the place Potatoes was locked up. We actually did see Tony and Henderson after the gas went off...and yes there was a 3rd...just wondering if we actually saw him in there or not. Seems you didn't either.
