  1. Mitch Haniger has 2 years of service time under his belt already, so he's 1 year from arbitration eligibility and 4 years from free agency. If he makes $40 million in his 3 arbitration years, that means by taking on Cano to get him, you have spent $160 million/4 to get Haniger, because clearly the White Sox don't have many uses for Cano.
  2. No. We. Don't. Out of the guys we traded for - Giolito, Lopez, Moncada, and Eloy - they're up or will be soon, but a couple of those guys were rushed and at least some you worry about being genuine busts right now.And on top of that, everyone else from our big deals - Kopech, Cease, Dunning, Rutherford, Basabe, Robert, and literally every first round picks since 2015, none of them will be up by next year. When we did those moves, there's a thread somewhere about how we might have acquired too much pitching and not enough hitting. Dunning, Cease, and Kopech - they are not here yet and that was supposed to be the big thing we acquired.
  3. I don't know about the Cubs, but yeah there were some legendary Astros games in 2014 where they were on at the same time as the Texans and the audience on TV was in the hundreds.
  4. That's it? Good god no one was watching this team in 2016 then either.
  5. Well, all things considered that's almost held true. Attendance last year was only 500/game lower than 2014.
  6. He's also owed $27 million this year. The Mariners would probably pick up more than half of that just to move him for nothing else.
  7. Given how things have worked out...if Machado signs elsewhere, I'd be much less opposed to adding Moustakas than I was last year, and given how things worked out for him last year I'm skeptical that he'd get this amount of money, especially for 1 year.
  8. Who are the people following him on twitter that don't know this?
  9. Oh come on you're really going to make me do this aren't you? CJ Cron produced a higher OPS than Abreu, a higher OPS+/RC+ because he was playing in the Trop, was better defensively, and played a full season. However, he spent 1/2 the year at DH. Matt Olson produced a slightly lower OPS than Abreu but a higher OPS+/RC+ because he was playing in Oakland, played all 162 games, was substantially better defensively. Justin Smoak had a higher OPS than Abreu, a higher wOBA, a higher wRC+, but was worse on the basepaths, leading to him being comparable in performance to Abreu. All 3 of them produced higher WAR than Abreu this year. 2 of them clearly outperformed 2018 Abreu, with Smoak it was close.
  10. You're right, I am using similar logic, because Jose Abreu's 2018 season was his worst in baseball and his performance was absolutely disconcerting and a big worry for the future. Please tell me how Jose Abreu's 2018 season gives you confidence for his future.
  11. Are you trying to brag about Jose Abreu's 2018 season as a positive comparison?
  12. And y'all never bothered to read the part where I said over and over that he wouldn't remain a .500 OPS player the rest of the year.
  13. Even if Rutherford doesn't pan out...right now we have substantially more value in our organization than we would have if we hadn't acquired him. One reason why people are talking about prospect for prospect swaps to fill our 3b hole is that thanks to this trade, we do actually have a legit glut of outfielders. We could choose to cash that bill in right now, or we could choose to hold onto those OFs if we think they are particularly promising. If we'd been caught holding Kahnle when he collapsed, we'd be hoping he could rebuild some value this year - instead we're already holding the value and deciding what to do with it. We've got the cash in our pocket, we just get to decide how to spend it.
  14. I'm sure you'll be surprised to hear this, but his falloff last year was almost entirely due to decreased performance against 4 seam fastballs, it was his worst season against the hard stuff since he got on the juice.
  15. Defensive splits aren't exactly convincing numbers or something we should trust, even if they were something we want to think is positive. Palka is a solid DH right now and there's a good chance he could hit comparably to Cruz next year. Cruz put up only a .850 OPS last year, no matter how many home runs he hit that's down 75 points from where he was the previous year, a similar dropoff next year would put him below Palka's 2018. Take the money given to him, put an extra $10 million in the Machado offer, and put players where they belong.
  16. Jimenez- In Charlotte until exactly April 16 Cease- Charlotte Robert- WS Madrigal- WS Dunning- I could see a rehab stint startoff all the way down at WS? But BHam soon. Rutherford- BHAM Collins- CHA Basabe- BHam Hansen- BHam Adolfo- DL Walker- Kanny Burger- DL Gonzalez- BHam Sheets- BHam
  17. Daniel Palka should be the main DH for this team in almost any case. Perhaps some platoon Davidson or Abreu time there when a lefty is on the mound.
  18. The White Sox could have done worse. They could have held onto Kahnle.
  19. The Yankees money is as close to unlimited as any in baseball. Their payroll first crossed $200 million in 2005, baseball's revenues have nearly doubled since then and the Yankees payroll was lower last year. Their gate sales are down substantially since their last world series, they've got huge room for revenue growth with a sustained playoff run. If they thought that Corbin was even a "Better than average" starter, he'd easily be worth 9 figures to them.
  20. The Yankees had a $230 million payroll a couple years ago, they won't be paying the tax repeater penalties, as we know every team is seeing revenue go through the roof, the Red Sox won the world series this year, and Cashman bluntly said a couple weeks ago he'll spend what it takes to get back on top. If Cashman doesn't want to pay Corbin, it's because Cashman believes Corbin's 2018 was a mirage he'll never come close to again, it's not a money thing.
  21. If the Yankees don't want Corbin, then that seems like a blinking red flag. That'd be a heckuva indictment of him that he puts up the 7th highest K-rate in the league and the Yankees say "Naw we'd rather have Happ".
  22. Well, I will grant that I did not find out about this part of the case earlier, but I will also admit that you have a very weird standard for accusing a woman of lying based on your own 2nd link. A ruling that "you're not party to this defamation lawsuit and you can't join in because you settled a different lawsuit" seems very different from an admission of lying.
  23. 1. Retired Harvard Law Professor, no longer active. 2. Who also had sworn statements filed against him claiming that he had sex with underage girls who were being sold as sex slaves (case settled out of court).
