  1. Luca$ and Reynaldo both are going to wind up around 180 this year after around 170 for both of them last year but the majority in the minors. Especially if Luca$ can be slightly, a tiny bit better next year, you'd really like both of those guys to hit 200.
  2. Does it really make sense to you to bid $125/5 or higher than that to get Corbin and to outbid the Yankees? You ready to spend $25 million on him next year? (and give up a draft pick, less important now but still).
  3. There just aren't guys who are on the cusp right now, certainly not enough to fill 2 rotation spots. If you don't have someone to fill that role at least part of the time, especially at the start of the year when maybe you're waiting on a AAA player to earn the spot, that's going to cascade through the bullpen and the rest of the rotation too. Not just with wins, but also high stress innings, more innings, maybe even more injury risk. I'm no fan of Shields either but honestly I'd sign Shields and some other veteran just to be warm bodies, or 2 other veterans just to fill roles if we really are done with Shields, a-la Santiago this year even.
  4. I might trade Davidson for the same package that the Brewers gave up for Moustakas because we do need to clear roster spots, I wouldn't trade Yolmer for that package. I certainly wouldn't trade Yolmer or Davidson and a 2nd round pick for what the Brewers gave up for Moustakas.
  5. Just to note - Morton has never in his career thrown more than 171 innings and he hit shoulder problems this year after throwing 150.
  6. Guys, the Warriors just don't have this many roster spots.
  7. You don't see any difference between signing a guy at a position where we should try someone out who is already in our system and signing a guy to fill a position where the guy who should be filling it just went down for Tommy John surgery. Edit: oh and just for reference I checked. B-R agrees with the ordering, Fangraphs WAR for each guy: Mike Moustakas 0.7, Matt Davidson 1.2, Yolmer Sanchez 1.6.
  8. I think a big reason why people keep saying stuff like this is that there now seems to be a good chance that there will still be a losing record in 2020...Eloy's arrival isn't enough to turn a 100 loss team into an 80 loss team, you and I have a little disagreement on what Kopech will bring to the table in 2020, the catchers aren't likely to be big producers in 2020, the big outfield arrivals aren't until the end of 2020, Cease will be a rookie, and counting on a young bullpen to consistently break through is iffy at best. Throw in any more major injuries on top of that like what we saw this year, and this team could easily show no progress the next 2 years. But, if the White Sox win 70 games in 2020 and 68 in 2021, I don't think there's anyone out there who believes, deep down, that Rick Hahn will receive anything other than a raise and a contract extension.
  9. I would say that at first, we looked for a reasonable investigation procedure, until the number of allegations and detail became so overwhelming that he couldn't be allowed to stay in that position even pending an investigation. He wasn't removed immediately, especially since the first person just wanted an apology (that was the one with the photo of him and the sleeping soldier). Once additional allegations surfaced, then the Republicans started calling for him to resign, and when the Democratic women joined in he was gone.
  10. When they cover that up, people will just decry it as politics as usual.
  11. I can't find it right now, but somewhere out there I've seen a report that they prepared 2 separate lists for Trump, one of conservatives who would sail through easily and one of names who were more controversial and farther to the right, and he told them to throw away the first list.
  12. According to a statement by Jane Mayer this morning, one of the authors of that New Yorker piece, the Yale incident was widely enough known amongst others who attended that school at the same time that it was those former classmates who brought the reports forward, the victim in that case did not want to do so on the record until last week after the first allegation came public, when she finally agreed to talk to Ronan Farrow.
  13. In what is the least surprising headline and, at this point, the least surprising by line in history: First paragraph also seems to allege that the early hints of this one reaching the Senate last week are why the Senate Republicans were pushing for a Monday vote.
  14. Eloy, Kopech, Robert should be arriving in 2021, and we should have at least 1 big FA signing somewhere before then, and it's entirely reasonable to think that there should be 1-2 breakout guys from the list of players already up. If those guys systematically bust, then we can write Rick Hahn's epitaph as worst GM in baseball history in 2021.
  15. Ok WTF? Where did that come from? Buffalo was looking like they had a shot at 14 or 15 losses.
  16. That Buehrle/AJ perfect game story was incredible, best story I've ever heard of that game.
  17. No, not enough coming up by then and especially with Kopech in recovery mode in 2020. But this team better darn well be great in 2021.
  18. He's been like this every year of his career. He has that knock everyone out slider when its on, and a good fastball to go with. When he gets into a groove and both pitches are working, he goes into a stretch of utter dominance. Then, he'll follow that up with a stretch of wildness and inconsistency with his pitches, and he'll give up 4-5 runs in short stints over several games. Part of this comes from the limited selection of good pitches he has, when one pitch isn't there, he's a 1-pitch pitcher. He reminds me of a left handed version of Edwin Jackson - great pitches, but limited selection of them, and only wins when they'er both on. He had some games back in August where he didn't have good stuff and still worked his way through it, but it seems like there might just have been some luck in that. Either he has to figure out how to win when he doesn't have good stuff by stranding some runners and getting balls on the ground/well timed strikeouts, or he has to have his best stuff more often. I could have written this post about him in 2015, 2016, 2017, and now 2018. I'm pretty sure I did each time.
  19. I don't imagine that anyone will take Castillo's contract on for free if he's put on waivers given the steroid suspension this year for a minor player, so in my eyes if you want to get rid of him you have to designate him for assignment and buy out his contract. Frankly, I would not complain about this, but let's not pretend that he is worth anything. Davidson might not bring back anything either, so if we have to non-tender him in the offseason or put him on waivers I won't be that mad, we gave these guys shots this year. But, at least Davidson was almost a 2 bWAR player this year, so he was at least worth something, it'd be kinda odd if he was unmovable.
