I think the most important thing is staying healthy. You can have the sweetest swing in the world, but if you're always on the DL, what good is it going to do you?

Not sure of that one. You'd be kissing Hitler then Or f***ing the hell out of him.

When did penetration become rape? Anyway, I'm extremely disappointed in Kobe. At the very least, he is guilty of adultory (in Kobe's own words), and that completely shocks me. If I had to bet on an athlete that would stay out of trouble, Kobe would have been #1 on my list. He seemingly had it all -- he's good looking, an incredible athlete, very charming, a ton of money, a wife and child, and his whole life in front of him. It's just incredible to me that he would risk losing all of that for a few minutes of sex. That said, my "b****" comment will not be retracted until Kobe is found guilty. Just because he's a dog and committed adultory, that doesn't mean that she is a victim of rape or that he is a criminal. Once again, we agree. The only part i dont agree with is you calling her the b****, without facts. If people can call Kobe a rapist without "facts", calling the "victim" a b**** is perfectly acceptable IMO. You know damned well that women OFTEN cry rape after consentual sex in an attempt to either have the guy thrown in jail (maybe because they feel guilty over what they've just done with a stranger) and/or get into his bank account through civil court. It wouldn't be the first time something like this happened to a high-profile person.

You know nothing yet. As usual, youre letting your uncontrolled emotions, control your words. Sorry Bmr... but arrest warrants don't get issued for no reason. The woman knew the resort he was staying at. And the doorman recognized her. She was obviously there with him. Guilty of adultry is more then enough to say adios. Don't even care about the rape charges. If he hurt her, he'll get his. Cheating is unexcusable. If its all true, I agree. This wouldnt be the first time one human being tried to blackmail another.....if he is found guilty, punish him to the full extent. How is she trying to blackmail him..? Ever hear of settlements out of court? She's obviously hoping Kobe will give her a settlement of $25K or more to drop the charges and get his name out of the news. It's extremely unlikely that Kobe is guilty of any wrongdoing, and hopefully his name will be cleared and this b**** gets hers. Bump eh that was just his opinion. We are all wrong at times. Where was I wrong?

As of July 18, 2003 at 4:59 PM, where am I wrong? Was Kobe convicted of sexual assault? Did I miss something?

And since there are an equal number of bad teams vs. good teams (and that's being generous, there are way more bad-mediocre teams), we'll finish at around .500 at the best. That won't get the Sox anything.

I don't buy that at all. Griffey's injuries were not only freakish, but as a general rule could be attributed to some specific happening. I am not an expert on steroids, but I don't see Griffey as being someone on them. I think the guy has just had an incredible run of bad luck. It does happen. How do you explain the sudden increase in his power numbers? Getting older thats what tends to happen. Look at Garret Anderson for example. Maybe we should have him pee in a cup too.

I think Rose's career average was around .303. That is nowhere near the best career average of all time. Hell, there's probably 20 active players that have a career average than that.

Doesn't matter if he bet for or against his team. I think it does. If he bet for his team to win, I don't see a problem with that. I don't see how that would harm the integrity of the game, as he would just try to get his players to play harder than usual. Now, if he bet for them to LOSE, that's a completely different story, as a manager can very easily hurt his team's chances of winning. Just ask Jerry Manuel, the worst manager of all time.

Something about betting receipts...? I don't know as much about the "case" as some here do, but I seem to remember hearing about betting receipts with his name on them, and I believe they were from the player-manager era. Anyone know if this is accurate?

petes a no, till they let in shoeless joe........... And Jose Canseco was not aware they banned jose for anything.......... LOL...was supposed to be a joke, but I guess it didn't work quite right. Afterall, he's being blackballed, ya know.

... if you go for older chicks.

Yes, it could be. I just threw the steroid possibility out there to see if I was the only one who thought it was possible. I don't dislike Griffey, and I wish he'd get healthy so we could see what he's got left in the tank -- but I just don't see it happening.

Was he not a player-manager when some of the alleged gambling took place?
-
There's a bold prediction
-
Haha, someone really did vote for Esteban? I thought Bmr was joking. LOL! Anyway, I, for one, was shocked and saddened to not see Ken Hill's name on the list.
-
LOL, good one.

And did I ever say Ty belongs in the HOF?
-
Bulls***. Profesional athletes are human like anyone else. They're personal life should have nothing to do with their HOF status. Pete Rose was the Perfect example of what a baseball player should be minus the gambling. Kids should be taught not to look up to these guys or try to be like them. They f*** up just like anyone else. I respect the player on the field. Half of them are f*** heads if you try to talk to them. perfect example. Aarron Rowand. This little son of a b**** has his nose in the air already and he no one. Look up to that????? NEVER! They have Million dollar jobs. It's nothing like it used to be. Pete Rose was one of the greatest baseball players that ever lived. That's what the HOF is about. MLB HOF. Not the Nobel peace Prize. Put him in there already. Why are you mentioning "HOF" and "Aaron Rowand" in the same galaxy? And anyway, excusing someone going to a federal prison as "just being human" is a joke and you know it.

There were huge expectations of him. Maybe so, but the numbers don't lie.

Shall I repeat the stats that I cited a few posts ago? And "having power" and hitting 56 in back-to-back years are 2 different things.
-
But see, you used them for bodybuilding. I haven't watched much bodybuilding on ESPN2 lately, but the last time I saw it, they weren't running after flyballs or trying to leg out a double. So for weight lifting, I can see how steroids would not cause more injuries. But, I don't think that applies to sports like baseball where the body as a whole is put through MUCH more stress and movement.
