For those who want to compare Ken Griffey Jr to Frank Thomas (offensively, of course -- defensively there isn't much debate who is the superior player), just look at the stats. Griffey has played in more games than Frank (by about 120, so nearly a full season) and had over 300 more plate appearances, and the only category that Griffey leads Frank in by any big amount is the HR category (481 to 396). Frank has him in career average (.311 to .294). Frank has him in career OBP (.431 to .379). Frank has him in "walks minus strikeouts" (321 to -316) <----- yes, that's a "-", as in NEGATIVE Their RBI, runs, and SLG are all very close though. So if you're talking strictly offense, Frank is the better player.

I'm not a doctor, so I really don't know if steroids could cause something like that...but I've always heard and thought that using steroids weakened your body to some extent and made it more prone to injury.
-
I've gotta say that Griffey is the most likely guy to have been on steroids that I can think of. He's ALWAYS injured, and if I'm not mistaken, isn't that one of the things that steroids does to your body? Make it more injury-prone? You look at this guy 5 years ago, and he was in great physical shape. Not an ounce of fat, could run like the wind, jump like nobody else in the league...and yet he's always hurt? That just doesn't make sense. And it's not just 1 thing like it is with Grant Hill and his foot/ankle. Griffey has had problems with his shoulder, his knee, and now his ankle. Something just doesn't add up IMO. Edit...and now that I look at his stats, I'm convinced that's what he did. Look at this. In his first 4 years (his 1st wasn't quite a full season, but he had 500 plate appearances so it's close enough), he hit 16, 22, 22, and 27 HR, respectively. That comes out to just under 22 per season. Then, over the next 7 full seasons (excluding 1995 where he only played in 72 games due to injury), he hit 45, 40, 49, 56, 56, 48, and 40. That's an average of nearly 48 a season. That's more or less what Sammy Sosa did in terms of monster increases, and everyone here thinks he's on the juice, so the same would have to hold true to Griffey. The only difference between the 2 players is that Sosa is almost never hurt. If I am correct in saying that he's suffering the effects of steroid use, it's sad -- he had talent, and didn't need to f*** it up like that.

Um, I think it's time that you face the fact that this season is over. We may have some pretty talented individuals, but as a team, we have no guts and no heart. Like I told Bmr, I just hope the Sox get some good prospects when WF 2 happens, because it's coming.

Good to hear. Those punks will be lucky if they don't come home in a body bag.

Which begs the question... 1) tumbleweed? 2) landing strip? or 3) baby's bottom?

Your avatar is you? In that case...lay off the pot dude.

Turned 16 on July 4th. Man, you look 13. Thats ok though man. Oh no he doesnt. He looks 16 or 17. On what planet?

As would I if it were not for his tax evasion troubles. On the field, there's no doubt he's a hall of famer. Off the field, he's more of a hall of shamer.

Black jack has better odds than sports yes, but, you'll find a "pro" sports bettor or poker player before a pro black jack player, unless you're the Rainman it's danm near impossible to count cards in Vegas. I'd say that's because betting on sports is much more fun and entertaining than betting on a game of cards. At least when you bet on a game, you can sit back with some Stoli and get a good 2-3 hours of entertainment while you lose your money.

Not all of us were here when it was discussed before. Some of us (not me, necessarily, but probably someone) would be interested to hear more than a "no" answer from you. So, please elaborate.

Especially on a dorky message board. Anyone who is afraid to speak their mind on a virtually anonymous internet site is a sad individual.

Yeah but that only really works where they use limited amount of decks. These days, thats not easy to find. That, too, is true. Many casinos today use like 5 decks, which makes keeping track of s*** virtually impossible. But, if you look hard, you can still find places that use 2 or 3 decks -- making it much easier to keep track of what's going on. Maybe that's why they have all the hot cocktail waitresses in skimpy outfits -- to distract the would be card counters.

I voted no, but interestingly enough, it has nothing to do with the betting on baseball issue. I recently adopted the belief that any professional athlete who has been convicted of a crime and has spent time in jail should not be in any "club" where the word "fame" is associated. To me, the Hall of Fame is something that children should be able to look to and be full of people they can aspire to be. Not just people who could hit a baseball or throw a lot of touchdowns -- but also people who were lawabiding citizens. Pete, as most of you know I'm sure, went to prison for like 3 years for tax evasion. That disqualifies him from my HOF. Pete Rose -- all-time hit king (a record that will probably never be broken), but he f***ed himself out of the HOF. Sorry Pete.

LOL, this thread is too funny. For the record, I shall side with Bmr on this one (shocking, eh?).

Dude i have no plans or dreams to make money in vegas gambling. I may go hit the blackjack table occasionally for entertainment, but ive already been through my gambling phase. Its almost impossible to make money that way, let alone make a living. I will let the fools try that road............ Quite the contrary. A professional black jack player can make a ton of money in Vegas. Of course, these are the best players in the world, not just your average Joe Shmoe. But, for us non-professionals, you're right -- it's a losing battle indeed. There are only 2 ways to make money gambling in Vegas, Sports betting and Poker. A profeassional black Jack player? What the hell is that? When I went I bet on the Sox vs. Pedro, with a 2-10 Mark B on the hill. They were plus 190 so I turned 100 into 300, that turned out to be a hard night on the liver!!! Do some research. The game that gives you the best odds (or one of the best) is blackjack. And there are methods (card counting, as Bmr said) that if you perfect, you can make a friggin' killing. But like Bmr said, card counting is not easy, and not only do you have to perfect it, but you have to perfect your technique, as if the casino catches you, you will be asked to leave and will be put in their database as a card counter, and will not be allowed to gamble there again.

For the record.. it's clu that has the tattoo and earing issue. As you were. Yes, that is correct. Thank you for setting the record straight, Steff.

I don't think I was being very judgemental (this time). But, anyway, the only circumstance that will keep me from being there would be the lack of a pulse. Anything short of that isn't strong enough of a force to keep me from witnessing what will probably be the best moment in my life.

WTF? It would appear that BB in Florida is ripping people off. Out in CA, EVERY new release is $10.99 (when they first come out, then after like a week they go up to around $12 or $13). The only time you'll see $18 or $20 on a CD is if it's one of those "gold" CD's (which to me are a waste of money) or a 2-disc release (like Metallica's Garage, Inc or S&M).
-
No way! Target is better than places like Tower or Borders (the book/music store), but no where near as cheap as Best Buy. When Metallica's "St. Anger" (which included a 74-minute CD as well as a DVD of them performing the songs live) was released, BB had it for $10.99. I can guarantee you nobody else had it cheaper than that.

Uhmmm....you can leave anytime if you are being serious.

Oh she smokes alright...but not cigarettes. -
Saw the Murderdolls CD at Tower for $18.99 - that's pretty close to 20. Bought it at a used CD store for $8.99 - that's more like it. Used CD stores are the way to go. Most of the $14 CDs at Best Buy are 14-dollar piles of mule s***. To answer the original question, if you're not looking for anything specific, just trying to find music at random, try record labels sites like vagrant.com or epitaph.com. I also go to sites like blabbermouth.net ( for metal mp3s ) and punkbands.com ( for............well, punk ). Every time a new release comes out, BB has it for $10.99, I think it is. Anyone who pays $18 for a CD is a sap. Correction, anyone who pays anything for a CD is a sap. Um, no. I have NO problems paying $12 or so for a CD of an artist that I like. I do not advocate stealing a musicians' work -- but that's a topic that I shall not get into.
