  1. my wife is a red sox fan and yes, a extremely serious, pre world series winning red sox fan we have tickets for sunday's game
  2. DH - edge Boston (statistically even, but Papi has a ton of GW hits and a few more RBI)
  3. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 10:52 PM) Can't you read, my dear boy? I was replying to one specific person when I made the comment about subtlety. I guess in your haste to take offense at my indignation you wanted to make the point that I am righteous and condescending. Congratulations. Kindly eschew verbosity and obfuscation. Also... Let me tell you the difference between saying "Garland is trash", "Vazquez is trash" and "Politte is trash" We don't have necessarily reliable options to replace Garland and Vazquez, so we actually have to work with these guys. That's why I've been hesitant to overly criticize and been patient in looking for Coop to resolve this. However, with the trade for Riske, Politte's duty was reduced to a role that literally ANY other major leaguer with a functioning right arm could perform - mop up duty either way. Sure, he had a fine year last year. But don't overestimate what his role was on that team, a middle relief pitcher. He's not your starter and he's not your closer, so he's not nearly as important in the scheme of a pitching staff. And if he's not left-handed, he's easily easily replaceable at the major league level.
  4. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 10:40 PM) There is a difference, perhaps too subtle for you to comprehend, between not wanting Politte anymore on the team -- and nobody can possibly want him to remain -- and saying, "He's trash" over and over and over, and ridiculing the end of his career. I'm not going to work myself up over it, and I'm going to bow out now, thanks. I just wanted to say that those of you laughing at Cliff's failures and screeching not for him to bow out of the game, to be cut from the team, but having all the fun in the world and directing all your misguided anger toward him should be ashamed. But, hey, he's garbage, and worthless now, right? So it's okay to be cruel instead of insensitive. Oh, but a snide, condescending attitude towards all the other people in this thread is perfectly acceptable right?
  5. Most soxtalk posters who know me well know I'm optimistic to a fault You know what's ACTUALLY disgusting? the fact that I WANTED to see him struggle a bit tonight to further the case that he be DFA'd as soon as humanly possible. It's not a case of a few bad innings here and there. It's EVERY OUTING. EVERY TIME. Sure, thanks for the memories Cliff. Whatever. Thanks to Shingo for the memories too. And Crazy Carl. They was part of a championship season too. Does Cliff enjoy some sort of special exemption from harshness because he's still with the team? Seriously, this season has been maybe the worst composite of relief work I've ever seen from a proven veteran in a White Sox uniform.
  6. truth be told, I was half-joking with the thread title in any case, it's seriously time for a DFA. No question.
  7. with this situation, there isn't even a glass in the room
  8. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 11:02 PM) Good news, but I find it hard to believe the park didn't sell-out more games the year it opened--was it '92? April 18, 1991 got the ticket framed right in front of me
  9. A question for the ERA stat stranglers Are 8-6 wins worth less than 2-0 wins in the World Series?
  10. BIIIIIG zone for the big man tonight that said, I'll take it.... O's fans probably going ballistic on their board
  11. a Rogers start in the all-star game means one less Rogers start in the second half and more fatigue for a 42 year old arm...
  12. CONTRERAS KONG DYE GIMME A HELL YEAH!
  13. I say wait until late July for a shake up, but that's just me
  14. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 07:34 PM) Later peeps, I can't possibly be bothered to sit through a game we are losing man, we have spoiled fans
  15. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 03:10 PM) Veteran team, veteran top 2 pitchers with a 57 hr hitter. Big difference. 1) We have three hitters on pace for 40+ home runs, and another on pace for 30. 2) Contreras and Buehrle are capable of being as dominant as Schilling and Johnson were in that season, and I sure as f*** like Garcia and Garland more than Omar Daal or whoever the f*** they were running out there 3) Bobby Jenks >>>>>> BK Kim As for the "no middle ground" contigent...it's ok to say "Buehrle sucked today." It's not ok to say something like "Buehrle sucks ("at all times" implied), and this team is not making the playoffs or winning the division or winning the world series." It's also not ok to say "Garland needs to be demoted" or "Vazquez is a piece of s***," because believe it or not, mediocre first halves happen. Ask Jose Contreras about 2005. And as much as you might like the White Sox coaching staff to react to your every whim, they're not going to do that, because sticking with a philosophy and fixing things from within is what won them a championship in 2005. EDIT: and the reason why I say it's not ok to say those things about Garland and Vazquez, because realistically, there's no way to use them on this team if they are not starting, and there's no guarantee McCarthy would be any better. CLEARLY the best course of action for now (while they are still WINNING!) is to stick with them until at least the end of July.
  16. the offense is clearly not the problem on this team
  17. this thread is going to be some great comedy in about three months
  18. Starters by a country mile, because pen is more easily replaceable both from without and within. It would be hard to justify yanking one of these starters for a virtual rookie (McCarthy) or making a drastic move like a trade which might have a net negative impact on the clubhouse. It appears as though we are probably stuck with these guys, at least through July (and rightfully so, in my opinion), and although I have more faith that Garcia is turning the corner, either Garland or Vazquez better get straightened out quickly or one or both are going to be seeing some long relief time after this month.
  19. Dear assface, victor/spoils. Sincerely, Kiss My Chicago Ass.
