Thome at 1B?
QUOTE(FlaCWS @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 08:05 PM) Does anyone know if Ozzie plans to give Thome any time at 1B this spring once he's 100% healthy? Is the plan to have him be a DH exclusively all year? If Gload doesn't make the team, we can always go with Ozuna, Dye or Makowiak (or maybe a combo of the three) to back up Konerko. I'm just curious if anything has been discussed about this. I'll bet this is somehow a fantasy baseball related post

White Sox' Way Is to Win
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 10:11 AM) And those 96 wins have brought zero playoff series wins.

What is the origin of the name "The Big Hurt" - is it just another Hawkism that caught on?

Carlos Martinez
sorry to stir up the rumor mill, but the only reason to not specify a disease is if it carries a social stigma, and I can think of only a couple of plausible things in this case. anyway, loved the guy in 1989.

Greetings from Jim Thome
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jan 19, 2006 -> 01:42 PM) Its funny how he always mentioned that he loved playing in Chicago as a visitor and loves Chicago baseball. He kind of left the fact out that he was a Cub fan growing up. Haha its cool, at least he admitted that earlier. Welcome big Jim! Welcome to the South Side! The champion brand of Chicago baseball LOL. I didn't know he was a Cub fan, but after reading the way he phrased this letter, I knew it immediately based on what he DID NOT say...

Sox Hire Chris Singleton to Join Ed Farmer
I honestly thought he was still playing for the Rays. Wasn't he playing there as recently as 2003?

Garland For......
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 12:25 PM) But you can't guarantee a LCS berth. The issue really is do you move Garland now for a need/prospects who are less suspect than draft picks, or hold onto him and pick up a couple draft picks when he leave.... The draft picks are less likely to pay off, and are farther down the line from contributing. I'm asking you to play along with me and peer into the Crystal ball. Would you take Garland or the prospects if you knew you had a pretty good shot at another title with him?

Garland For......
I swear I posted in this thread, but I don't see it anywhere anyway what I meant to say was...if you could have Garland for 06 only knowing he'd walk but you'd get to at least to the CS (not knowing whether you'd win or lose the CS or series) or two top prospects, which would you rather have?
-
Why does everyone want to dump Jon Garland?
Okay, let's say that the Sox get to the ALCS minimum with Garland in 2006 (You don't know if they will win, or win the World Series). You can either have Garland in 2006 and get nothing for him and watch him walk, or you get any two reasonable prospects you want right now. Which do you choose?

Official: Konerko Signs With White Sox
QUOTE(LoFiStew @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 04:01 PM) This is great news. I don't think they need to make any more major moves -- this team is good enough to repeat. We don't need Juan Pierre. His offense isn't enough to overcome his defensive flaws, especially considering how much more money he'd cost over Brian Anderson. Re: the batting order -- I think Thome should definitely hit 3rd, with Paulie remaining in the cleanup spot. Thome is an on-base machine (career .408 OBP), thus his productivity would maximized higher in the order. And don't worry about Thome's lack of speed -- he's scored over 100 runs seven times in his career. Remember that Konerko -- despite being the slowest guy on the team -- led the Sox in runs scored (98) in 2005, largely because he led the team in OBP (.375). Speed is useless if you can't get on base consistently. Here's my lineup: 1. Podsednik LF 2. Iguchi 2B 3. Thome DH 4. Konerko 1B 5. Dye RF 6. Pierzynski C 7. Crede 3B 8. Anderson CF 9. Uribe SS Can't wait for the 2006 season! It's either gonna be Dye-Thome-Konerko or Konerko-Thome-Dye. Going R-L-R with your biggest boppers makes the most sense to give the opposing manager matchup problems.

KW optimistic about Konerko
My point was that Konerko will get offered at least one more year and possibly two, and up to $20 million more in total money. I realize this is a starting point, but seems like this is Williams also saying "okay, what is the lowest we can offer him"
-
2005 Manager of the Year
Awesome. Congrats, Ozzie. FWIW I'd rather have had Williams get executive and Wedge get manager than this scenario. Williams deserved it more.

KW optimistic about Konerko
does anyone else feel that 4/52 is shockingly (almost insultingly) low in terms of years/total money

Say Frank is healthy
okay, maybe I should take off the rose colored glasses and put down the pipe but, damn, it's nice to romanticize this sort of thing

Say Frank is healthy
I was under the impression that the entire reason the ankle was re-injured was because he rushed back, and with the proper healing this time around, it would be fine eventually. He says he has no pain. That's why I said "say Frank is healthy". I mean in a Tedy Bruschi "good as never having the stroke" kind of way. Older, sure, maybe a little more prone to injury, but as fit as ever and in great shape.... I wouldn't be against having that option...for that price...

Say Frank is healthy
Any chance he could play first base if Paulie goes? Or is that something the White Sox would never look at doing again?

Refunds of Ticketmaster fees?
QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 10:24 AM) Incorrect. Greg, call and complain. Everyone I know who has, has gotten them credited back. Cool. Call ticketmaster or call the white sox? I'm assuming ticketmaster.

Refunds of Ticketmaster fees?
Does anyone know if we can get the ticketmaster fees refunded from unused CS and WS tickets?
