  1. can somebody sticky the reasons why Griffey is not coming to the Sox so that we don't have to keep explaining it?
  2. [rant] Did anyone hear the postgame last night on ESPN1000? The phones were lit up with people wanting to b**** about Freming and Wendelstat and how we had "no chance" to win on Wednesday because Freming was calling balls and strikes. They were also going on and on that the Sox can only score so many runs per game the way this team is built. I wanted to punch the f***ing radio! This line of reasoning is preposterous. I was appalled that people are willing to accept what's happening at the plate from the Sox and blame the umps for bad calls when we don't execute anyway. I know most people here aren't accepting it, but what about the GM and the Coach? Are they on board with this reasoning that the team is built a certain way and everything should fall on the shoulders of the pitching staff and the umps while .240 and .227 hitters just get a free pass day in and day out? This is absurd. I really think we have a chance to go deep in the postseason, but the fact of the matter is that without a healthy Thomas, we have zero bench depth offensively and a questionable everyday lineup at best. Now that Podsednik is creeping back down to his career average and the rest of the team seems to be settling back in to a low-.260/high .250 team average, I'm ready to say that if we don't get offensive help, we will be hard pressed to win a playoff series against any team. Imagine if anyone else were to get injured! If we don't make a move and get a BIG bat, I feel we'll be out quickly in the playoffs...first round for sure...and this is not the f***ing umps fault! Yes, Wendelstat and Freming are terrible. Yes, they may have it "in" for the Sox. We shouldn't be relying on scoring 2-3 runs a night and relying on miraculous pitching to make it hold up! Lately we have been making schlubs like the entire Toronto staff and Joel Pineiro look like Cy Freaking Young! [/rant]
  3. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 09:28 AM) Timo not batting ever.
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 04:13 PM) His ERA since the start of June is 1.73. His ERA since the start of July is 1.05. His ERA since the all-star break is 0.93. I said it before and I'll say it again....7/27/05 against KC.
  5. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 03:35 PM) If the Sox choke they won't have to. The right combo of their wins and our losses and we're the laughing stock... again. Assuming the mediocre Indians play 6 over .500 (I think 28-22 is the very top of what they can do, but whatever), The Sox would have to lose 34 of their last 50 games. I can't think of a stretch the Sox have had in the past ten years (other than possibly august of 99) where they have been that bad over that many games.
  6. Yes, I realize that the 1995 angels blowing an 11 game lead was in a three division format but Seattle was one of the best teams in the AL that year and the 2005 Indians aren't even the 4th best team in the AL...
  7. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE! :rolly Sorry guys, but the inconsistent Indians, Hunter-less and hitless Twins and terrible Tiggers are not good enough teams to win 40 of their last 50 games. It's not going to happen. Period.
  8. Let's compare apples to apples, guys. Since divisional play began, what's the largest lead blown? In particular, since the three division format was introduced, what's the biggest lead blown? My point? Back in 1951 it was perfectly reasonable for an elite team like the Giants to overtake another team that had a helluva season, even though the Dodgers had a 13 game lead. There were only two leagues and no divisions. Oh yeah, and my other point is that again, if the Sox blow this I will eat a car.
  9. "the giants win the pennant! the giants win the pennant! the giants win the pennant! the giants win the pennant!"
  10. I totally agree with Murcie that we have one of the weakest "legacies" of all the original AL franchises. I think if you asked non-sox fans who the retired numbers were from the White Sox, you'd find that most people under the age of 30 couldn't name even one (most associate Fisk with the Red Sox).
  11. QUOTE(IndplsSoxFan @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 02:25 PM) While we're looking at recent history, look at the A's performance in the playoffs during this span... Since this thread is comparing the media perception of the A's vs. the media perception of the Sox, I think the fact that the White Sox haven't won a playoff game since 1993 pretty much disqualifies our fan base from attempting to ridicule any other team's playoff performance....
  12. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 01:54 PM) No, it wouldn't be impossible. Are some of you not familiar with the history of baseball and some of the big leads that have been choked away? It has happened before and it WILL happen again. Hopefully, not in 2005. If the sox don't win the division I will eat a car.
  13. Not sure about the best, but hands down the funniest game I attended was a Blue Jays/White Sox game in 1991 or 1992. It was raining all game and David Cone was no-hitting us. Jays were up like 14-0 or something ridiculous like that. Most of the fans had left by the fifth. It was f***ing brutal weather out there. Anyway, Pasqua comes up with one out in the fifth, doubles sharply into the gap. The remnants of the crowd boo and then most leave. I thought it was hilarious. I stuck around until the very end
  14. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 01:37 PM) I was just thinking that. I'm sure the last week or two, McCarthy or Adkins may be thrown in to a start or two to align the rotation for the playoffs. With the stretch we have coming up though, if the Sox start scuffling and the tribe pulls within 10, I don't expect anyone to be getting any time off until RIGHT at the end.
  15. Interestingly, Buehrle and Garland have relatively brutal stretches but Garcia has it much easier.... Buehrle at Boston vs. Minnesota @ Minnesota @ Texas vs. Detroit vs. LA Angels at KC vs. Cleveland vs. Minnesota at Cleveland Garland at Boston vs. NYY @Minnesota @Texas vs. Detroit vs. LAA @ Minnesota vs. Cleveland @Detroit @ Cleveland Garcia at NYY vs. Minnesota @ Minnesota @ Seattle vs. Detroit vs. KC @ KC @ Minnesota Minnesota @ Detroit
  16. What will be the final W/L totals for Buehrle, Garland and Garcia? Buehrle - 18-6 Garland - 22-9 Garcia - 16-8
  17. So he's wearing a Red Sox uniform in the statue, right?
  18. Wow, there are just some things I would rather not know.
  19. See, I feel as though the White Sox fans are considered the "red-headed step-children" that Fisk has just had to deal with. On the excerpts I heard of his speech, what he said seemed sort of forced and half-hearted. I understand he is a new-englander, and it seems like he'll always be a Red Sox in his heart and treat the White Sox as his "second team" and the White Sox fans as his "second fans" I really don't like that treatment. I understand he had a falling out with Sox ownership that resulted in bad blood and sealed his entry into the hall-of-fame as a Red Sox, but it still makes me feel kind of bad.
  20. I know a lot of people really differ with my view of Fisk, but I'm interested to see what you guys think of the statue that was put up in his honor and the very diplomatic speech he made.
  21. Sorry, it's here: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/index
  22. somebody wanna copy and paste? It's probably about Veeck, Disco Demolition Night and stuff like that. http://espn.go.com
  23. QUOTE(UofIChiSox @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 09:49 AM) Us being their b**** is exactly why we should hope they stay hot, so we'd face them in the ALCS and not the Divisional Series. Why is winning an ALDS something to hang our hats on? If we don't go to a world series this year, I know I'll be disappointed...
