  1. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 03:59 PM) The Tigers lost 3 of 5. yeah, sorry, same logic still applies.
  2. of course, the flipside to that post is forthcoming "young, scrappy team..." "finally turning the corner..." "pieces finally falling into place..." "had too much talent on the field not to win a few series..." See what it's like from the other side, fellow white sox fans?
  3. Does something like this seem like a familiar post to you? HOW COULD THE TIGERS LOSE THREE OUT OF FOUR TO A s***CAN TEAM LIKE THE WHITE SOX, WHO ARE IN FOURTH PLACE. THIS SEASON IS OVER. THERE IS NO WAY THIS TEAM IS EVER GOING TO WIN THE DIVISION, LET ALONE COMPETE FOR A WORLD SERIES. I'M JUST TOTALLY DONE WITH THIS TEAM. WHAT A BUNCH OF LOSERS. EAT s***, TIGERS FRONT OFFICE AND OWNERSHIP, YOU REALLY SCREWED US OVER. NO WAY IN HELL SHOULD A TEAM LIKE THIS LOSE THREE OUT OF FOUR TO THE WHITE SOX
  4. QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 03:34 PM) two words = scott boras trade crede already unless we're confident crede is our 3B of the future and fields is our LF of the future. i certainly wouldn't mind having a strong arm, like Josh's, in LF opposed to the girly armed Podsednik that we've come accustomed to over the years. You do not trade Crede when his value has bottomed out you pray for a complete recovery and a decent first half and then you deal him when he actually has value again
  5. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 03:29 PM) One game and seven homers most certainly doesn't mean that Fields replaces Crede. Joe Crede is a superior defensive thirdbaseman and a 30 homers player. Fields is doing a good job, but rebuilding this team for '08 doesn't mean getting rid of Joe Crede. Crede should be at 3B and also signed to a 3 or 4 year extension. Fields should be moved to LF and play 3B as needed. I was under the impression that Josh had played 43 games this season. I would not extend a fairly average offensive 3b who is increasingly injured, especially if Fields appears to be almost as good as him defensively.
  6. seems like that 7th homer today probably sealed the deal on confirming him as a certain successor to Crede during next season Crede's ceiling seems to be one fluke .280 year - but he's essentially a .255-.260 hitter with about 25 homers per season seems like Fields could give us that easily, maybe more I know Joe's defense seems godlike sometimes but isn't there a chance Fields develops into that sort of player defensively too?
  7. Release Podsednik, release Erstad.
  8. when was the last time fifth place in our division was on pace to win 73-75 games? The Royals are way better than they've been in years (except for 2003)
  9. I don't see how we win tonight garland has a 15.51 era at camden and the sox have barely seen this as yet dominant al pitcher
  10. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 03:17 PM) Ya, he is no longer in the Sox system. IIRC he was a catcher while in the Sox system and they looked quite a bit alike. I saw him at a Warthogs game about 2 years ago. He not only resembles his brother, he looks A HELLUVA lot like him! He also wears number 45 and is indeed a catcher. How could he be playing "rookie" ball if he's been in the farm for a few years?
  11. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 11:04 AM) The ARod deal violated the MINIMUM...? Not even close. They can do whatever they want - in terms of reviewing and holding things up, and they will if they choose to. btw, this statement is patently untrue. Just because Major League Baseball's union is the most powerful one in the world does not make it exempt from the NLRB's jurisdiction. There are some things that a union simply cannot do, particularly whimsical obstruction of normal contract negotiations.
  12. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 11:04 AM) The ARod deal violated the MINIMUM...? Not even close. It's really moot to continue to discuss the union end. Obviously they are snooping around. If they didn't have an interest, they wouldn't be. If they do anything remains to be seen, but to say they can't do anything is ridiculous. They can do whatever they want - in terms of reviewing and holding things up, and they will if they choose to. I meant that the Arod deal violated the terms of the collectively bargained agreement, which prevented him from renegotiating for less money when more money had been agreed to (probably a better terms and conditions clause). As far as salary amounts go, it only stipulates a minimum, which relates to buehrle in this case. Sorry for not being clear.
  13. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 05:53 AM) This team has to play better than .700 baseball for the remainder of the season to have a shot at the playoffs. And this team is not capable of doing that, but the eternal optimists aren't going to grasp the reality of the situation. I just hope that Ken Williams is not one of them.
  14. I work at a union. It may not be exactly the same, but my understanding of labor law is that as long as the terms of the agreement are not in conflict with the collectively bargained agreement (which only stipulates a minimum salary, from what I understand), the union can't do jack s*** about a player signing for less than they think he should. The A-Rod situation violated those terms, so the union took action. In this instance, they can't and won't do anything.
  15. If JR really ok'd four years, and Buehrle is asking for $14 million per and not going to demand pushing this to five years, the sides have to be too close together for this not to get done.
  16. how is 4/56 (or even 5/70) not a f***ing no brainer?
  17. this might be the worst thing that could happen right now KW is going to think we are miraculously back in it and potentially make moves accordingly, and that's not good because this team has a 0% chance of making a 19-1 or 22-2 run it would need to in order to get back in this.
  18. The true test of how a fan, coach, manager, general manager handles his or her respective part of this organization is how one composes oneself during adverse times. A lot of people in this thread are not composing themselves very well. Yes, it's alright to be angry at this team. Yes, a lot of changes need to be made. Knee-jerk reactions are not the solution. Yes, everyone else is on tilt here. Let's get it together, folks. We are all on the same side here. We've had exactly 160 or so games of things going truly badly. Ever since just before the all-star break last year until now, things have been about as bad as they have been in the past 25 years of this organization. I think over that stretch we've probably compiled about a 60-100 record. Ok. That sucks, but it's still just a season worth of games. I'm willing to give Kenny Williams a chance to atone for the fact that he's made some mistakes and see how he adjusts to unfamiliar territory. This has nothing to do with loyalty or his world series ring, but because quite frankly, we don't have a lot of other good options to fill a general manager's seat right at this moment. As far as Ozzie goes, I just don't see how you can possibly put the lion's share of the losses directly on him, although it's clear that he'll probably need to go over the course of the next two seasons because I'm not sure he's the right guy for a youth movement, although time will tell. And once again, I'm not sure we have a lot of great options from a coaching standpoint right now. This season is lost. No amount of firings is going to change that. The best possible scenario for right now is that we keep losing for a week or so because then there's no chance that Williams will delude himself into believing the White Sox are capable of some absurd second half run. We need to get value, and lots of it, for Jermaine Dye and Mark Buehrle. Also, no matter what happens with attendance (I hope that they draw, personally), the White Sox are probably due for a rollback in payroll here. It just feels right with how this organization runs itself AS OPPOSED to the Cubs. They tried the big spender way, and it didn't really work. So they'll roll back a bit and probably play it more conservatively. Never compare the two, and never compare the two fanbases. It's insulting to everyone.
  19. terrero fields hall and then the contreras this inning? the o/u on runs scored this inning should be -1
  20. 3-2 phils WHAT THE f*** WCIU, CAN YOU GET THE SCORE RIGHT?
  21. "walks have absolutely eaten our lunch this year" - Ken 'Obtuse' Harrelson
  22. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 01:51 PM) I assume none of you will be watching the game tonight since the outcome is already certain. Be sure to post later on and tell us what happened on "America's Got Talent" or the Cubs game tonight. I will be watching to make sure my under comes home
