2012-2013 Sox off season Catch-All thread

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 09:34 AM) Mike Morse. Former White Sox prospect, who was busy here developing at the same time the organization was taking Brian Anderson and, as some here would insist, were ruining him. Because they're so bad at developing people. Would you rather have kept him and not acquired Sweaty Freddy? -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 08:12 AM) One thing Trestman has to work on is his 'doo. That's just brutal. LOL, I agree.

QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 09:18 PM) I think the Bears fans were lied to, Mgmt said that money wouldn't be a issue with the new hire. The Bears hired a guy that the Browns didn't even want. I think the Bears got the worst hire out of all the new HC. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 5, 2013 -> 03:18 PM) Trestman will be a nice addition to the Bears.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 08:17 PM) For the bears? Yeah, that was what CTL says. Who knows what is true

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 07:40 PM) @seankjensen #Bears officially announce that Tice, Babich, Bates, DeBord, Drake, Holt and Spencer won't be retained. Honestly i dont know how Drake stuck around as long as he did. 8 years, and I cannot think of one WR that he actually coached up

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 04:20 PM) Kyle, I have actual experience with this stuff. Ive worked with IL Attorney General, FBI because our firm has had a few clients that have been ripped off by online scams. You would be shocked at how much money these "women" are able to get out of men before they realize that they are just being ripped off. Badger You are assuming money was scammed here. As far as anyone knows right now, there has been no money motive at all. At that point, you have to say WTF is this and why? You are scrambling to try and make sense of it like any of us are, and in trying to make sense of it you are making up these possible outlandish scenarios that just dont make sense when nobody is profiting from it. I understand the lengths people go to scam money just as much as you do Badger, I work in credit card fraud. I see it EVERY DAY just like you. Remember my comment about lexis nexis? I use it just like you do. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 04:10 PM) Im now starting to think it was a scam on Te'o. Not sure how Thamel missed it. It makes sense with what the Cardinals guy said. They were using this girl's troubles to try and get money from people. At first killing off the gf doesnt make sense, but think of it this way. She wasnt real. Te'o starts pushing her to come to his games. That wont work. So you kill her off, and you start telling Te'o about these letters she wrote him etc, hoping that he will take care of you because of his love for her. Pretty twisted. I think when you have to add so many different parts to the story to make it somewhat believeable(and even then, not very believeable at all), then you have to go back to not believing any of it. There are so many people involved in this, his parents and brother, the university people. I just cannot help but think that the type of scam they are claiming this to be is not that complex. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 03:17 PM) I'd rather miss a show than watch SD. And if it's a Bears game, I'd rather hit the closest bar for the HD than stay at home and watch SD. F*ck SD. Disclaimer: I did watch like 10 minutes of Jackass in SD last night, but Jackass is so great it doesn't apply to rules. Of course SD isnt preferable, but when it is storming I usually dont want to go out to a bar to watch a game. Or, at night before bed. But the DVR always helps mitigate it as well

It would be cool if Peppers could restructure in order to lessen his considerable cap hit. THat cap hit is BRUTAL though
-
QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 03:15 PM) No, but their stronger bench will help them win the division. That's what matters. Im not arguing with you that the Sox will beat Detroit, im arguing with you that the Sox will only win 72 games.
-
QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 03:11 PM) I'd rather have Flowers on the bench over whoever our backup C is. Compare our bench to what the Tigers have So the tigers bench is worth -13 wins to the Sox?
-
does 200 Ks add up to -13 wins? Hahn should be elevated to god status for unloading Levigne, Nickelback and Linkin Park

Last summer during preseason training camp Sean Jensen said he was at a restaurant and some little kid ran up to him and said "You are Jackie Chan!" and that the little boys dad was extremely embarrassed and apologized. Jensen put Chan up as his picture on twitter for a month because he thought it was so funny

We should trade for (insert teams best prospects) with (insert multiple mediocre unheard of prospects) and (player i dont like) and (decent player). And we should have spent (large sum of money) in free agency
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 02:26 PM) There was always cap room for those moves, it's just whether the Bears wanted to spend for those guys. Remember what happened with Briggs...he expected a bigger deal than he got offered, he went out, took his time, and came crawling back to the Bears to take the deal they originally offered because no one else wanted to pay him. There can be room for some things and not for others. The Bears could have gone after several O-Linemen last year, but didn't...instead they got Forte and Marshall as the things they spent money on, in addition to some secondary depth. I dont remember that happening at all. I remember him showing up to the GM meetings with Rosenhaus and the 49ers getting very interested until the Bears threatened tampering charges. Then the Bears got serious with him and a deal got done.
-
How many of us sat here saying the Briggs extensions would never happen because of Cap room, or the Forte extension would never get done, Urlacher, etc. The Bears find ways to get what they want.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 01:53 PM) I don't think I am. I think Bears fans are imagining the team has much more cap freedom than it actually has. That's going to make choosing between Melton and an O-lineman hurt. How do you think it'll go if the Bears sign the #10 O-lineman on the board for $3 million and that's the only o-line addition they make before the draft? I think deciding right now what the bears can and cannot do is an incorrect way to go about it.

I am very much looking forward to what happens with this team from the start of free agency through the draft.

See, now whoever is running that twitter account is reveling in what happened to Te'o. If that is Touiasosopa that is just messed up -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 01:01 PM) Would be shocked if it is anyone but Singletary. Problem is, isn't Mike more of a 3-4 guy? Or am I mistaken. He clearly knew talent (just look at San Fran's LB's which were identified under Singletary's watch). Singletary has really been around a lot of different defenses. Ravens, 49ers, he was ST last year with Minnesota but it isnt as if he isnt watching. And of course the 46. I think Singletary would be a distraction, but I am not convinced that he would be a terrible DC

QUOTE (farmteam @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 12:43 PM) I love me some DirecTV. The only problem is that if the weather is legitimately bad (ie, heavy rain or snow), the picture will go out. Usually not for too long, but it happens. I had to go watch the Bears-Vikings game at a bar because my signal was out. EDIT: Despite that issue, it's still 1000x better than Comcast. You know what is weird, I live in sleepy hollow in a heavily wooded area, and I very rarely have outages. And when I do, if I switch to the non-hd channels, they usually are unaffected. The only time I get any problems is at the very beginning or very end of a storm, depending on which way it is going.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 12:38 PM) Can I ask for a show of hands of who still wants you posting on this board? You want to disagree and think that the Bears FO is great, that the hiring of Trestman is great, that the Bears can do no wrong, great, go for it. But I should be allowed to express my opinion that the Bears FO has bungled this decision from the start and that the evidence suggests that fans should be extremely cautious when it comes to trusting anything the Bears FO does. /shrugs Disagree or agree, Im not breaking any rules. I guess I find this discussion more interesting than talking about how Forte is going to be MVP and the Bears are going 16-0 after the sign Mike Wallace, trade for Joe Thomas and clone TE Mike Ditka. If thats fun, have at it. Who is telling you that you cant post on the board and/or breaking any rules. Pipe down the drama

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 12:34 PM) Just a count of hands: There's a lot of cool things going on people want to talk about, how many want to continue down the path of baseless speculation of who the bears could've hired for OC last year, instead of the current staff? Im done. It doesnt matter, Im glad Lovie is gone, im glad that the team has made a concious effort to make the offense better. There will be some bumps in the road, but there would have been bumps in the road if lovie stayed around, just on a different side of the road.
