  1. i also think a lot of what keeps Saban in Alabama is total control. I think he realized controlling 18-22 year old kids making zero money is a hell of a lot easier than controlling millionaire men who are the best at what they do. He got his personnel control in Miami and his results were really less than spectacular (to put it mildly) and he decided it wasnt for him And when you bring up Carroll, you really have to wonder if he would have had the nuts to jump to the NFL again if USC hadnt been sanctioned from all of the Bush era nonsense that caught up.
  2. On his most recent podcast, Bill Simmons called Nick Saban a coward for staying in Alabama and "picking on and beating inferior competition" because he wont come to the NFL. He also threw in a few shots "does he hit from the pink tees when he golfs?" and things like that. thoughts?
  3. Poor orange baby hands is so mad at overrated Meryl
  4. Most of the guests were there the whole time, I'm pretty sure Bernstein was. He just came on the air in the final hour
  5. Post security briefing Trump: the hacking had no effect on the election. They hacked the DNC because they were dumb and had bad security. They tried to hack the RNC but they are superior and it was fought off bravely. Intel: we have made no assessment.
  6. The Sox have cornered the market on the Geo/Gio Soto's
  7. this show has been amazing though. What a retro throwback
  8. Well, Tyrod Taylor might not be available because Haha oh you Buffalo Bills (he will be available, but the Bills might have to pay him a lot of money to go away)
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 12:10 PM) Yeah, well you can get away with it when you win 4 super bowls, you can't when you say a player with a broken leg is day to day, and multiple players found to be out for season are day to day. It is stupid, they gain nothing, and it hurts the fan experience not even knowing who is going to play. this isn't putting 20 players on questionable when you know all will play, it's putting players on questionable when they are all out for season. So, when your team is good, you are ok with the coach speak bulls***. But when your team sucks, its not ok because you should be totally truthful? So when your team stops sucking(hopefully), then all the sudden you start coach speak and stop telling the truth? it sucks, its all a shell game and when it is obvious what is under the shell you want to smack them, but it is what it is. They all do it. It doesnt hurt the fan experience, it hurts the gambling experience. To that, i give zero f***s.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 11:58 AM) I agree but I do feel need to say I find their obfuscating on injury reports infuriating as a fan and I hope it stops. They've gained no competitive advantage, but have made it look like they don't have a good medical staff. come on man, this is the NFL. they all do that s***
  11. To me, the press conference is irrelevant. If they come out and hang their heads and dont say much, they are crucified. If they come out and beat their chests and say they expect to win and compete, they are crucified. if they come out and talk openly about their deficiencies and what they expect to do, they are crucified. The only thing they didnt do is hang their heads and refuse to talk. THey talked about addressing needs openly, DB, QB, health, skill players, it was all addressed. The only thing that will make these end of season press conferences palatable is winning. There isnt much to say anymore, we all know the drill. We are heading to year three(year 5, post Lovie), this is a big year for the front office and coaching staff.
  12. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 08:24 AM) I think the bears second and third this year will get it done. Possibly just the Bears first based on how high it is. assuming they trade back, correct?
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 08:28 AM) Besides, baseball only announcers are semi retired anyway. They already get 6 months a year to golf. How much more do they need? I think Hawk would golf all 12 months if he could(and he probably does). I dont even think that is in question
  14. QUOTE (WBWSF @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 07:15 AM) Very few, if any broadcasters retire on their own. Most of them stick around as long as possible. What else are they going to do after they leave the broadcasting booth? Very few of them have any other type of career to go back to after broadcasting. And where else are they going to make the money that they're making broadcasting games? I always thought that both Bob Elson and Harry Caray stuck around too long. if you are retiring, you arent really looking to fall back on another career. You are looking for somewhere sunny with a lot of golf courses
  15. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 07:45 AM) Because I don't see anyone paying it, he only has 1 year left on his deal, their starting QB thinks he's playing into his 40's. Something has to give somewhere. I think they are in a similar position as the Sox were with Sale. There is no rush here, they have the hot property(not nearly as valuable as Sale of course), and can slow play it. They may not get a 1st and 4th, but I dont think they are getting only a 2nd back
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 04:00 PM) Are you willing to give up that 2nd round pick for JG? That was the price for Cassel. The price isn't measured against a trade made 8 years ago. The price is being measured against what Sam Bradford got, that's why you keep seeing 1st and 4th. And the Patriots have little motivation to come off that price because why should they?
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 10:56 AM) It certainly seems that Paxson has been more visible (since the end of last year) and that his comments haven't exactly been ringing endorsements of Gar. I don't know what we are going to do, but I would hope at some point Reinsdorf could separate business from friendship. Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh
  18. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 11:42 AM) RB coach is gone too. Still a bigger head needed to roll. I was really disappointed with Fangio this year looking back. Lol Fangio worked miracles this year. He couldn't win the war of attrition
  19. They did fire O Line coach Sam Magazu and a assistant DB coach( can't remember the name). No commitment to Cutler, they haven't given up on Fuller, they know the DBs were bad and they need to be upgraded. They also said injuries aren't an excuse and then used injuries as an excuse. The live Facebook feed was deafening with the sound of mouth-breathing
  20. http://m.mlb.com/cws/promo/soxfest Just wondering how many soxtalk members will be crashing the party, and what you are looking forward to?
  21. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 10:14 AM) Ok, then! You have made your point in no uncertain terms! We will put you down in the "Don't like" column and move on. More "used to like" And to be clear my opinion of Hawk has nothing to do with Bennetti. I felt like this before I even knew who Bennetti was(I didn't even know who he was Until he got the job lol)
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 10:05 AM) Apparently we went an entire season without a walk off win? Without a controversial call? The fact that nothing stands out is kind of the point. The only thing that stands out recently about Hawk is his embarrassing moments. Like running downstairs to check on Frazier in the middle of an inning, calling out conspiracies against the sox, TWTW. He is past the time to put him out to pasture, unfortunately it seems he will get his wish of dying in the booth (which will be absolutely horrifying if/when it happens). Now I won't remember him for when he was awesome but rather as a forgetful, domineering, overly opinionated and behind the times announcer that never could let anyone else stand in his light.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 07:23 AM) Relax Luke Cage. Do you honestly enjoy Benetti? It reminds me of Ventura replacing Ozzie. He won't embarrass the team or organization, but he's about as interesting as listening to paint dry. Relax? Relax about what? You like misinformed people who constantly spout nonsense instead of talk about the game. I'm not surprised at all, Mariah
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 05:11 AM) Frankly, I'd rather listen to Harrelson hype all the young prospects than put up with Benetti questioning Stone over and over and not providing any of his own insight. Hawak can also tell you more from hanging around BP for a week of spring training than we'll get all season from some "voice" announcers. I don't agree with one word of this post
  25. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 3, 2017 -> 12:25 PM) I don't see any way Hoiberg coaches this team next year. I just dont believe JR is going to write Hoiberg a 15 million dollar check to go away, 2 years after he wrote Thibs a large check to go away. I think they will try and get through next season
