QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 03:54 PM) Who cares, you need to play for one run in that situation! Yep. Since Carl already had a single, double and a homer, letting him swing was indeed playing for a run.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) So, we bunt with a runner on 2nd when we're down one, but we don't bunt with a runner on first and no outs when we're tied? That's absolutely ridiculous managing. Ozuna should have been brought in to bunt Rowand to 2nd base there. Are you serious? Everett was 3-4 before that AB.

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 03:49 PM) besides, being an optimist is more fun. chicks dig it You mean chicks don't like grown men who b**** and moan about baseball plays?

QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 03:39 PM) Oops it's still Sunday so Ozzie isn't gonna try to hard to take this one. Is there a full moon, too? I heard Ozzie deliberately tries to lose during a full moon phase.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 03:32 PM) Yes sir. I am naive. Thank you for pointing that out. Let's talk more about fantasy trades. Can I pick from the '27 Yankees?

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 02:50 PM) Choi homers AGAIN. 4-3 Dodgers. Choi is 3 for 3 with 3 homers. I think he has 5 or 6 for the series. I'm surprised the Twins aren't giving him free passes.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 02:39 PM) Tought to tell if AJ tipped that pitch but one thing for sure, the White Sox have not gotten any of the close calls in this series. Not saying all the calls were wrong, just that the Sox haven't gotten them, strictly an observation. Yes, it's part of the game that hopefully evens out over the course of a season. Outside of playing in Oakland, I think it does.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 02:30 PM) I find it really funny that he's all set to come back, then we start hearing about how there's no spot for him on the roster then he convieniently has a relapse injury. Yes, but this is the definition of a conspiracy theory. There's no reason to believe the Sox would lie about an injury. Of course there wasn't an open roster spot. Would you expect the Sox to field 24 players? Claiming the Sox "manufactured" Gload's injury just to keep Timo Perez on the roster is beyond a conspiracy theory; it's a ridiculous notion.

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 02:18 PM) my inning recap: that was a terrible call by cora to send scott there. I thought he was gonna be out by 15 feet. Diaz made the right call on everett, he was on the grass. Why was carl running anyways? It's a question of being aggressive on the basepaths. (Not Everett's play. That was just dumb.) It's hard to say whether the baserunning has helped or hurt the Sox overall. Personally, I like the aggressive attitude, but there are some kinks that need to be worked out.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 02:03 PM) Freddy, you're going to HAVE TO keep throwing up 0's until we get enough solo bombs to take the lead. I think he'll settle down. Freddy seems to get stronger as the game goes on. He doesn't tire easily, at least.

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 01:50 PM) DO not blame us. We have had enough with that bastage Ozzie and his tinkering. He is worst than focking Jerry Manuel. Don't blame you? Finally, something amusing to read in this thread.

Mark Buehrle; Is there another pitcher so screwed
nvxplorer replied to Frankensteiner's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Former Sox Esteban Loaiza hasn't gotten any support either. Before his last win, about 2 runs per game. -
Rowand made his second error last night. Konerko also has two errors. Hunter will probably repeat in CF, and Erstad will probably win another at 1B.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 12:17 AM) Counting out the yankees at this point in time is like saying the twins are out of it in my opinion. Yankees are not as bad as they are playing and will string together good sized win streak and everyone will shut up about how bad they are playing for a day or two. I agree you can't count them out, but it's hard to say whether they are anything other than a .500 ballclub. They had one hot streak, but outside of that, they have sucked - big time. Veterans are one thing, but many of their players may just be washed up. If Brown and Johnson don't turn it around, their careers might be over. Mussina and Pavano have underperformed, and Wright has been disaterous. The pitching staff sucks - plain and simple - though Rivera & Gordon have gotten back on track. The lineup isn't bad, but Williams and Matsui are underperforming, and Giambi is a lost cause. I won't dismiss the Yankees at this point, but they may very well be as bad as they are playing. Too many overpaid old guys on that team.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 10:41 PM) Before you all flame away there is a method to my madness. Back in 2000 we basically won the division in April and May and took the rest of the year off and it showed when Seattle totally schooled us in the playoffs. We got complacent with a big division lead and we fell asleep as a team. Ideally Id like to see Minny stay 3-5 games back for the rest of the season. That way they keep the Sox honest. If that's the case we'll go into the playoffs sharp and on our toes as opposed to 2000 when we basically backed into the playoffs. This makes sense, but 2000's team was entirely different from this one. The Sox have won this year despite slumps from several key hitters. Pitching, defense and speed will win in the playoffs.

Every sports website, from ESPN to Fox to SI, has a story: Garland First AL Pitcher to 10 Wins. The stinking Cubune's recap of tonight's game says Garland is now 9-2. I'm not surprised, and I almost think it's done deliberately.

Choi hits walk off homer. (Off the first pitch from Gramps Mullholland, I might add.) Sox lead is 5 1/2 games. -

QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 09:39 PM) No the box score says hermanson didnt give up and earned run his era is at 1.00. Rowand got the #4 web gem That's because he would have died at second if not for the error. Possibly third, but he wouldn't have scored. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 09:31 PM) That play was not an error, no matter what the official scorer says. The error was for taking the extra base, not the whole play. Single, second on the error. -
whose the most hated sox pitcher?

Hate is a strong word, but I absolutely hated seeing the conglomeration that was last year's fifth starter. -
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 05:36 PM) The problem is that Shingo either completely fools someone for a K or gives up a bomb. He fools batters when he gets ahead in the count like he did all last season. This season, Shingo has been getting behind the first batter he faces 3-0. Then he has to throw a "get-me-over" 85 MPH fastball down the pipe. Those pitches get crushed by major league hitters. Unless Shingo starts getting ahead of batters, he is worthless. Yeah, that seems to be the specifics, but I wonder why he's having this problem. I don't buy the claim that the hitters are getting to know him. That may have a small effect, but Japanese hitters saw him for years without success. I'm guessing that he's having trouble adjusting psycologically after a brilliant year in the states. He's much better than he's performed so far this season, unless he's just washed up which can happen at any time. I agree with those who say a stint in Charlotte may be just what he needs. A change of scenery, less pressure, more work.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 05:22 PM) That's what SF would probably want, guys who can help this year. But I think Vizcaino is coming back. I've seen him throw more than his slider I haven't given up on Shingo yet, either. His problem has been the long ball, but he strikes out a lot of batters. I don't know what his problems are, but I hope he works them out.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 05:16 PM) And successfully stealing 2nd or even 3rd base is even more effective than bunting because obviously you don't burn an out doing so. Yep. There are the CS, but in the long run, turning a single or BB into a double or triple more than makes up for it. An interesting stat that I think is directly related to the Sox style of play: While the team has not scored an overabundance of runs, they were the second to last team to be shut out. Boston still hasn't been shut out, but they don't have the record the Sox do, either.
-
Experts my ass. The object is to get the runner into scoring position. Stealing a base is stategically no different than bunting him along. Do the "experts" disapprove of bunting as well? Something the statistics don't reveal is the havoc on pitchers and defenses that a base stealer wreaks. I hate repeating myself, but experts my ass!
