QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 07:57 PM) You're omniscient, I'll let you figure out whatever you want to figure out. Tsk, tsk. That should be a semi-colon after omniscient.

QUOTE(I-HATE-CREDE @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 07:32 PM) Ornery, huh. Did your nurse not change your depends tonight, Gramps? If I misused a word I would want someone to point it out, so as I wouldn't make the mistake again. Perhaps you prefer to stick to the 12-15 words you already know? Hmmm... Interesting... Let's see... I-HATE-CREDE... Yep. That is a definite misuse of hyphens.

QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 03:40 PM) To me, Timo is a bit short to play 1B, and yet he did a pretty good job, dammit. And his at bats, which he hasn't had many of this year in my observation, he has hit pretty well and won a game or 2 for us with soem nice base hits. I realize what I'm saying doesn't sound like much, but for somebody who hasn't been at the plate much I'd say overall it's pretty nice. At least not anywhere near as bad to be getting all the negative feedback I've seen. Look at Cotts. Look at how much people have been trashing him, and he's getting into a groove. The way I see it, Timo hasn't done horribly at all this season so far. Give it a rest. While I agree some of the negative comments are getting old, Timo has not hit pretty well. Check the stats. There are better hitting pitchers in the NL than Timo has done this year. A meaningless stat, but funny nonetheless, Contreras has a higher OBP than Timo.

Hopefully this won't be a repeat of last year!

QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) Thing is, if the Cubs end up in the postseason and Prior and Wood are healthy in body and mind, the Cubs are a lock for the World Series title. That's a bold statement. I don't think the Cubs are as good as their recent win streak suggests. They are an average fielding team, the bullpen has problems, and regardless of recent success, the lineup is far from stellar. I don't see them going anywhere, myself. Even if they do win the wild card, there's no way they beat St. Louis. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 03:14 PM) Im also not saying that the team is fragile, but unloading someone who is a leader on the team-and he is if you read the article about the K-court, they elected him as the judge and KW and Ozzie and Pk have said he is a leader in the clubhouse-may have a negative impact. Agreed. Everett is not only a leader, but I believe he's the most veteran player after Frank. Carl is worth a lot more to the Sox than to a team that's rebuilding, and I can't think of any contender that would trade for him this far from the deadline. He hasn't been tearing up the league, but his bat has been adequately dependable. I don't think Everett or Thomas are going anywhere, but stranger things have happened. The Sox need both of their bats, and I hope they stay the whole season.

QUOTE(ISF @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 02:56 PM) KW isn't about to call a press conference and announce who he's talking to and for what. We won't know until it actually happens. As for Ozzie, I HIGHLY doubt that he is privy to everything KW does. The thing I find most funny is that I say it will be "likely" and that "if we trade Everett". But I'm making claims. Meanwhile, RR shouts to the world that Everett WILL NOT be traded and anyone who disagrees is stupid. Yeah, that makes sense With all due respect, please leave me out of your conversation with Rock Raines. I was questioning your post which said "...several sources have already indicated Kenny has started working on a deal." If by "indicated" you mean "speculated," then I've read those articles myself, and I take them with a grain of salt. If you know of KW actually stating a deal is in the works, please provide that info as I'd be interested in reading it. Yes, I'm sure Ozzie doesn't involve himself much with KW's business, but I'll take his word before that of a sportswriter.
-
QUOTE(ISF @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 02:36 PM) Maybe because several sources have already indicated Kenny has started working on a deal? The articles I read were only speculation. Has KW actually made statements to this effect? Ozzie said there aren't any trades in the works.

What's the "s***ty" lineup, anyway? Okay, Perez has been awful, but Ozuna, Harris and Widger all have better OBPs than most of the regular starters.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 09:27 AM) Hell, the Brew Crew are beating up on the Yankees right now. Yep. Bring on the Yankees. They are not the same team this year, and playing them is an advantage.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 11:22 AM) So true. He has literally been called the worst player in baseball on here and even though I'm not a big fan of his, I think it has gotten to be too much... At least the Konerko bashing has subsided, but I guess you can't argue with a .323 average over his last 17 games.

Here's the line on Francis: Making his 19th major league appearance, all starts (7 starts last year). Went 7.2 on April 19th, his longest outing. Failed to go 5 only once. Outings have been erratic, giving up 1 run three times, 6 twice and 5 twice, with 2s and 3s inbetween. Walks a batter every two innings. Last outing, June 3rd vs. Cin: 6.0 IP, W, 4 hits (2 HR), 2ER, 3BB, 6SO, 107 pitches

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 10:43 PM) nv Once the manager starts taking the 3rd game as a day off, it creeps to the players. Although the players may not intentionally relax during game 3's, I bet they unconsciously do not give 100% and make mental errors. And players are smart. They can see how Ozzie treats the 3rd game of a series. I disagree. I don't consider giving the bench some playing time as taking a day off. Outside of Perez, the bench has performed quite well anyway, so I fail to see your point. Harris started tonight, and the Sox won the game, so Ozzie doesn't sub exclusively in the third game of a series. It sounds like you're claiming Ozzie is conceding the last game of each series, and I'm not buying that, though you are certainly entitled to your opinion. I also seriously doubt the regular starters give anything but 100% in each game. Why they would relax just because Ozuna, Perez, Widger or Harris are in the lineup is beyond me.

There's nothing wrong with criticizing the manager, but the thread title is uncalled for. Yes, the Sox seem to take only the first two of three, but unless you're suggesting a curse, there's plenty of blame to go around - especially the players themselves. (Hermanson's throwing error comes to mind right away.) I have absolutely no love for Timo Perez, but if the Sox are losing games based only on his presence, then they have much bigger problems than we realize. In other words, blaming Timo or even Ozzie for all the team's third game losses is ridiculous. It seems some here expect the Sox to be not 39-19, but 50-8. I agree about the poor baserunning, but it was Dye stealing second that enabled him to score on AJ's single. Imagine that. Jermaine Dye stealing bases while Uribe and Rowand get caught.

Who would you rather keep Hurt or Jurassic
nvxplorer replied to GreatScott82's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Who would you rather keep if KW decides to trade Frank or Carl by the trade deadline. Until this becomes something other than rumor, any speculation is pointless, IMO. The Sox need both players, and I hope that they both remain on the team. -
QUOTE(keninem @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 06:28 AM) I'll predict 4ER over 6 2/3, 7 K 2 BB Contreras still leads the league in opponents BA, .200. If he keeps his walks down, he could give up 3 runs or less.

Shingo may be suffering from the sophomore jinx. I know it's a myth, but it does seem to effect many players.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 08:58 PM) Timo is one of our best bunters on the team as much as i hate to say it. Yeah, he may be. I had to come up with something for my poor attempt at humor, though. Sadly, it's not very funny - my joke or Timo. -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 08:45 PM) Ozzie predictably bats his lover and personal fluffer Mr. 197BA. Well, he's a .194 hitter now. Maybe the Sox could trade him for that Rockies starter tonight - Kennedy. He can't pitch worth a s***, but he's a .167 batter and can probably bunt much better than Timo. -

It's nice to have one of these games for a change. There's a sponsor on the radio that donates $500 to charity every time the Sox win by five or more runs. They haven't had to make many donations so far (if any). -
QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 01:34 PM) I take Public Transportation b/c I dont like paying for gas or parking. I realize everyone isn't in this position, but we used to get dropped off and picked up at the el in Oak Park. The ride down to the ballpark was very quick, and we could drink to our hearts' content.

For those of you old enough to remember, this reminds me of Carlos May's rookie year with the Sox, 1969. Carlos was also headed for ROY honors when he blew his thumb off in a military training accident. Carlos lost just about all the power from his swing, but amazingly, went on to hit .285, .294 & .308 the following three years. The ROY award went to Piniella that year (which he certainly deserved), and it looks like Barmes will miss out as well.
