QUOTE(redandwhite @ May 31, 2005 -> 08:36 PM) Ozzie may be this "glue" you speak of, but it most definitly isn't because his managerial skills. There's more to managing than filling out the lineup - much more. Skill goes beyond technical decision making.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ May 31, 2005 -> 08:28 PM) All five of you, please name the 3+ games that Ozzie has contributed to the win. You're asking the wrong people. Ask the players, and they will give you the answer you need.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 31, 2005 -> 08:21 PM) Well, I admit that I was one of them. He was great against righties last season but he sucked against lefties. This year he is getting both righties and lefties out. Politte was interviewed by Farmer today, and he credits adding a change to lefties for his success. Whatever he's doing, it's working.

I couldn't agree with you more. It seems Ozzie has a thing about Marte against lefthanded batters, though. After yesterday and today it's easy to jump on Marte, but no pitcher can go every game without giving up a run. As many one run games as the Sox play, it's easy to blame a reliever who gives up a tying or leading run. If Marte continues to struggle, then he deserves to lose his job, but in general he's been fine.

White Sox v. Angels Game Thread 5/31/05

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 31, 2005 -> 07:47 PM) Politte is 2-0 in this series. He deserves it, though Buerhle certainly deserved the W yesterday. -
who do u want pitching in 9th with a 1 run lead
nvxplorer replied to soxman35's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Hermanson, of course, but here's the thing. He's not going to finish the season without giving up a run. I hope he gives it up when the Sox have a two or three run lead to get it out of his system. That doesn't mean he shouldn't be brought in with a one run lead, but I'm prepared for the point when he finally blows a save in a one run game. -
I agree. Minnesota is only 14-11 within the Central (13-6 against the bottom feeders). Interstingly, St. Louis is only 13-13 outside the NL Central.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 30, 2005 -> 05:13 PM) This may have been just a fluke injury, but I'd like to have 100% assurance that he is ready to go at full-speed before throwing him out there again. I'm no trainer, but it's hard to imagine a strained hip flexor is related to his foot injury. Perhaps it is, but Frank is a huge 37 year old man. Pulling a muscle can happen any number of ways. Hell, I've hurt my shoulder from sleeping on it wrong. Nothing like this happened last week in Charlotte, and I think the adrenaline from coming home had as much to do with it as anything.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 30, 2005 -> 05:30 PM) On that note, I'll see my way out of this thread. Excellent post, as every point you made was vaild. Time will tell the true skill of this ballclub and its current dynamic. Personally, I think things need to change if we want to hang around come October. In the meantime, sit back, relax, and strap it down because Ozzie and the White Sox anemic offense are sure to give us many more gems this season. Go Sox. Thanks for the compliment. Yes, I sometimes wonder about the "special year" and "deal with the devil" comments. (Now wouldn't be a good time to mention my level headedness, would it?)

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 30, 2005 -> 05:17 PM) Yes, but it's one of those things that if you were actually watching the games, you would know that a number of those losses could either: a) be attributed to a poor mangerial decision or b ) complete lack of execution on offense Or am I way off base on this? No, you're not off base. I don't disagree, as I stated. The point is, regardless of what happens or may/could have happened on the field, you're not going to have as much success against better teams. That's just the way it is. Good teams are better at taking advantage of mistakes. The Sox have split with Baltimore. Swept Toronto. 2-3 against Texas (and I'm not convinced the Rangers weren't stealing signs in Arlington), and now 3-2 against Anaheim. Managerial decisions and hitting can be blamed, especially the hitting. There are a plethora of other reasons that decide ballgames as well. Luck - that wild pitch that bounced right back to Molina in Anaheim. Defense - today's game. Could the Sox have taken a game or two that they didn't? Sure, but anything can happen. There will be games where the opposition screws up, and if the Sox can't take advantage of it, they will pay. So far, I'm satisfied with the play against division leaders, but I agree that there is much room for improvement.

QUOTE(Yossarian @ May 30, 2005 -> 05:03 PM) I've been following baseball and the Sox since Eisenhower was President, but hey, if you don't like what I post you can fire away. This team is 10-10 since starting off at 24-7. They've looked less than ordinary. The offense is in shambles, I mean come on look at this lineup. Pathetic. They've got to step it up. You can't expect your starters to pitch a gem, each and every time out. The manager tries my patience at times. I'm surprised some of you didn't hear me yelling and screaming in the late innings of today's game. Ozzie will get his head handed to him in the playoffs just like Manuel was schooled but good by Lou Piniella in 2000. Yes, they are 34-17. Great. They're going to need the starters to stay on top of their games, and have at least a couple of their hitters come alive. This manager is going to blow a game every now and then. Guys like Leo Durocher, Al Lopez, Chuck Tanner and Lou Piniella would steal you a game sometimes. Hopefully Ozzie has some kind of learning curve. A top of the line manager he ain't. I don't disagree with you, but my view isn't as strongly held as yours appears, either. It's worth noting that during that 10-10 stretch, the Sox have played Baltimore, Texas twice, and now Anaheim twice. I fully expect the Sox to roll again once they get back to playing the Central. Some of Ozzie's moves have baffled me as well, but I think it's a little early to say he'll get his head handed to him in the playoffs. This is only his second year as a manager. Hopefully, he's learning his lessons.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 30, 2005 -> 04:52 PM) If you can't find anything wrong with the way the Chicago White Sox organization (from top to bottom) won this game today, I'd love to live in such a blissful place. I'm with ya on the field play, but I wouldn't go so far to blame the entire organization.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 30, 2005 -> 04:50 PM) You guys should know that I don't like Frank, get over it. And enough bashing. This post begs for a cliche. Pot calling the kettle... If you can't take it, don't dish... And a Bible quote. Judge not, lest... I'm sure there are more.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 30, 2005 -> 04:40 PM) they were joking, its only a small injury he might sit out tommorow but nothing big. Yes, I'm sure it's precautionary more than anything. We should get used to it because they will be handling Frank very cautiously throughout the rest of the season.

The game recap at whitesox.com said it is minor. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb...t=.jsp&c_id=cws

Speechless...utterly speechless

Buehrle went nine innings his last start as well. I'll give him the benefit of the douibt - tentatively.

QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ May 30, 2005 -> 03:17 PM) I love it when I analyze. nice job A Row. not get a freaking hit. Freudian slip there?
-
I hope the Sox don't build a 4 run lead here. With that, Ozzie will probably bring in Vizcaino or Takatsu. (undecided on teal status)
-
I don't understand this one bit. Does Timo Perez has some dirt on Ozzie or something? Hell, Everett could have pinch hit.
-
What's with all the negativity? The Sox aren't the Dodgers.

Doubleheader in August (according to Rooney).

QUOTE(black jack @ May 28, 2005 -> 03:37 PM) just went on a beer run and it's pouring five blocks south of my house, but clear weather above it. go figure...Texas has some strange rain patterns almost being on a lake and watching the rain aproach you. Yeah, a few years ago I was sitting in a small bar, and it was raining outside the front door but not the back. Of course, though it seems strange, it's not unusual. The rain has to start somewhere, and apparently it's right over Arlington Stadium (or whatever it's called).

There's a HUGE difference in mental attitude between rehab and the real thing. My gut says Frank will be fine. This is no different than spring training, and IIRC, Frank said as much himself.

Some of the replies are nothing but wishes and dreams. Certainly understandable - I have them myself - but a few points don't make much sense. Saying "I'll take a WS even if it means 100 years in last place" sounds like a deal with the devil. If the Sox win the WS, whenever, they will likely be in a position to repeat the next year. Yes, the team has finished second far too often, but by doing so they have been in a position to win all of those years. I'd like to see the Sox take it all (though I'm not willing to pay the price some of you are), but barring a total team breakup like the Marlins, I see the Sox being very good for years to come. Kenny obviously knows what he's doing (thanks to Ozzie, IMO), and I'm not even going to try to second guess him.
