  1. Minnesota is 16-12 against the Central. Until they play better against their own division, any talk of fairness is nonsense.
  2. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 03:01 PM) I'd like to see the Sox add a guy like Feliz to the roster by trading a minor league prospect or two (not any of our blue chip prospects however). Then, he can take the Ross Gload/Timo Perez spot on the roster. Crede would still be the primary 3B, but Feliz would see plenty of time there. He would also be the primary backup at 1B, and could play some OF as well. You keep Willie and Ozuna around because they are versatile, and they have speed, which is important for a team based on speed and defense. The only other true speedster on the roster is Podsednik, and we have many slow players in the lineup. Since Crede is a Boras client, Feliz will be around as a possibility at 3B next year, and also around as a possible 1B if they let Konerko walk. This makes sense, but I have yet to hear why SF would trade Feliz in the first place. He's only an average player, but without Bonds and with Grissom doing awful so far, the Giants would have a hole to plug in the OF. A Feliz for Crede swap next year may be feasable (a wash, if you ask me), but if the Sox have to replace Konerko, I would hope they could do better than Feliz.
  3. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 02:36 PM) I am going to play devils advocate with you then. Based on your logic. Why upgrade the bullpen. Why upgrade anything. We have the best record in baseball and the 2nd best pitching in baseball. Maybe Dingo comes around, maybe Viz does also. If we sit on our hands it will eventually come back to haunt us. Crede is a liablity. You're right, and I don't think the Sox need to make any major moves. It comes down to whether you are offensively minded or pitching/defense minded. I fall into the second camp. It's much easier for the lineup to pick up a struggling hitter than it is to battle back from blown saves/poor relief outings, IMO. One hole in a good lineup is far better than a hole in the pen. That's just how I view it. I would agree that Crede is a liability if he was costing the Sox games, but I don't believe he has. There are certainly much better third basemen out there, but what would it take to get one, and is it really necessary?
  4. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 12:56 PM) Even if they slump, its still better than .229. Joe has had 1400+ ABs in the majors to figure it out. I think having Uribe and Joe going against top tier pitching in August with the game on the line when we need contact. We cant have two outs in a row. Uribe is streaky but the swinging at everything and then Joe being Joe and two all the time spells for a slow spot in our lineup. It's not realistic to base the season on a couple at bats that may or may not happen in August. These types of situations arise in almost every game, and that's my point. The Sox have amassed the best record in baseball while much of the lineup got off to a dreadful start. Konerko has been hitting well and consistently for three weeks. Dye has been unreal. Everett has been hitting well. Frank is back. Podsednik, Rowand and Iguchi have continued their hot hitting. With nearly the entire lineup on a tear, offense is the least of my worries. I'm more concerned with shoring up the bullpen than replacing Crede.
  5. QUOTE(Finkelstein @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 01:13 PM) I think you mean hitting his weight... Konerko is hitting about .320 over the last 20 games.
  6. QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 01:04 PM) He hasn't been AS tempermental with the Sox as he was in Boston/Houston/NYM. That's what I figured. I've seen Carl get lit up when he was hit by a pitch in Oakland, but that's a good thing. As far as the clubhouse and off the field, he's highly respected by the Sox players. CBS' claims lack credibility.
  7. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 12:49 PM) And you believe him? Saying he won't trade Everett is one way to get teams to offer more for him. Frank has 2 pinch-hit homers already and needs to be our DH everyday. That would leave little playing time for Everett. Although, it's nice to have Everett as insurance in case we have an injury. Yes, this makes perfect sense, but the CBS article is pure speculation. There's no reason to disbelieve Kenny and believe CBS or vice-versa. The article calls Everett an "often tempermental veteran." As far as I know, Carl does not have a bad temper.
  8. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 12:31 PM) In his history, we have never been this good, nor had this much good chemitry on the field, nor had this complete of a team. Exactly. The question we should be asking is whether the team needs an offensive upgrade at all. With the exception of Crede and Uribe's cold streaks, the team has been hitting very well lately. Adding one position player who may hit 50 points higher is not going to make a whole lot of difference. As long as Crede's glove is there, it makes sense to keep him for the remainder of the year. There's always the possibility Crede has a good second half. Replacing him with Feliz or even Randa is risky. Neither are anything but solid players, and they both could slump.
  9. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 12:09 PM) By the way, I never suggested trading Crede in a deal for Feliz. I didn't mean to sound harsh. My apologies if I came off that way.
  10. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 11:58 AM) I'm not saying that Kenny is going to trade for Feliz but I do think he will look to upgrade 3rd base by the deadline if Crede continues to hit near the Mendoza Line. Yes, that's a possibility, but I doubt the Sox will make any move that degrades the defense. If Crede can hit between .240 and .250, I think he stays. Kenny says he doesn't want to mess with the team, and as long as they keep winning, I don't think he will.
  11. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 11:40 AM) I don't see how it's "laughable." Crede is "laughable." If you don't think that Kenny is looking at all available 3rd baseman right now, you're nuts. How long do you think he is going to stick with a .229 hitting Crede? All of the f***ing Flubs' pitchers can hit for a higher average than that. If you read KW's words, you will see how the thought of trading for Feliz is laughable. How about this part: "...you run the danger as a general manager of stepping in maybe where you don't belong." Why in the hell would Kenny trade for Feliz? Seriously? He's started all of six games at 3B this year. You don't break up a successful infield, guys that play with each oter every day, to get someone who's hitting .272/.309. Crede's OBP is .300. They both have 8 HR. The Giants' starting 3B is hitting .313/.381. So, you're suggesting the Giants swap Feliz for Crede, and bench Alfonzo? Yes, that's laughable. Maybe you think KW will trade an OF for Feliz. Who? Everett? More laughs.
  12. http://www.suntimes.com/output/sox/cst-spt-doug09.html KW is wary of making a trade. I just don't see Kenny trading for Pedro Feliz. It doesn't make one bit of sense. Reading KW's statements, it appears he would make a deal only if it was one he couldn't refuse. Pedro Feliz? Sorry, that's laughable. I'm wondering whether the thread at WSI is in fact a rumor, or just something started by a Crede/Konerko hater.
  13. The Sox are definitely living a charmed life. Article at ChicagoSports.com http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...tesox-headlines
  14. I wish Minnesota wasn't so close behind, but I get satisfaction that they have the second best record in the league but are stuck behind the Sox.
  15. Interesting notes: Sox pitchers struck out 11 in each of the three games Jermaine Dye has raised his BA 85 points in five weeks I don't know what to think about Shingo. He gives up a lead-off homer but strikes out the side.
  16. QUOTE(I_WANT_CHAVEZ @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 09:36 PM) if i was in his shoes i still would have known that ElDuque gets the win cuz hawk said that like 2 mins b4 he posted It was friendly advice that went right over your head. Oh well.
  17. QUOTE(I_WANT_CHAVEZ @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 09:31 PM) I dont think i was mean Put yourself in the other person's shoes before calling them dumb.
  18. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 09:30 PM) No, it's not unfortunately. Like I said, I am bad with who gets decisions. I should probably know that stuff since I've been watching for years, but I never pay attention until I see who actually gets the win. Then it was a legitimate question. You did not deserve to be called stupid.
  19. QUOTE(I_WANT_CHAVEZ @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 09:26 PM) That wins an award for the dumbest question of the year. I believe it was sarcasm.
  20. This will make for a great off day tomorrow.
  21. QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 09:12 PM) why isnt pods running Why should he?
  22. QUOTE(whitesox91403 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 08:42 PM) Does 1 more run give us 5 for our first 5 run inning? Yes, I think that's correct.
  23. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 08:11 PM) El Duque didn't look happy knowing they were going to take him out of the game there...nice job Duque!! He wants to play - period. He didn't want to go on the DL either. He's a fighter.
