DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 12, 2008 -> 11:02 AM) Too late (on the story taking a life of it's own). Let's connect some dots. First, read Obama's book. There's some racial overtones in it. Subtle, but there. Now when I say that, I mean that Obama says that he's had a hard time because of his color in places in his life. I don't want to say he's "racist"... that's not my point, and I will get to my point in a minute. Second, Michele Obama says she's "never been prouder of America" - now why was that again? Third, the people that Obama associates himself with... the "weather underground", Rev. Wright for 20 years, etc. Fourth, the comments over the weekend about people being "bitter"... There's more, but I think a clear pattern is being established about who Obama really is. Any single one of these things, on their own, would be fine. But, when you put them all together, we find that Barack Obama is quite the eliteist, in my opinion. For all you people who want "inclusion" from your Democrat Party, Obama isn't really all that inclusive. He wants things his way, and all this talk of change, etc. is to change things to HIS way of thinking. He doesn't have room, in his mind, about thinking any other way. THIS is why this man is a dangerous candidate. He's more like George W. Bush then you people want to admit, except he's a liberal, so that makes it ok. I never, EVER thought I would say this, but at least with Hillary Clinton, you know what you get (a pathological liar who will do exactly what the polls of America tell her to do). With Obama, generally, people have no idea how jaded this man could really be. If you start "connecting the dots", I think Obama has some serious issues that need to be vetted before this man could take the White House. You've done a poor job of selling your point here IMO.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 07:23 PM) It is just something that can help boost moral, and perhaps just bring people together, realizing who the true heroes of this country are. Boost who's moral? Bring who together?

2008 General Election Discussion Thread
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 9, 2008 -> 09:36 AM) I'd be interesting in seeing a discussion on this. http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0408/Opting_out.html I bolded the parts that i think are what we should talk about. I think it's a bad idea for him to break his pledge, but I really do think he has a point. The internet has really opened campaign financing to the public and not the political elite. In a way, it really is public financing. I tend to agree on the principle but he'll get beaten over the head as being a flip-flopper*. *God I hate that political term.

General Iraq War Thread
QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 11:07 PM) Kinda OT here, but Americans need to give their support to the troops, and stop making/seeing anti-american War movies... I would love to see just one patriotic film made for our troops. All we have out there is garbage to try and degrade our troops. So you think making more pro-American war movies would help end this war? I honestly don't get where you're coming from here.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
Here's the link that states he said all this unprompted. Why would he want to keep this story alive when the MSM had pretty much stopped talking about it?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 08:02 AM) Sounds like Bill is giving a good reason for not electing someone who's 60 (or 72) to office. They can't think and recall clearly at 11PM, let alone 3 AM. He even got that wrong. As the article mentions, the speech where she gets 'busted' for the lie was given in the morning. He has made too many gaffes in this campaign. Seems odd for such a well-admired politician.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
Now why would Bill want to keep bringing this one up? I read at another site that he brought this up unprompted. Full article with several hyperlinks scattered within the text.

Catch-All Anything Thread
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 03:01 PM) And what's #1? Fort Worth, Texas. And damn don't I know it. Talk about infastructure that can't handle the population. WTF is I35W a two lane highway for leading into downtown Fort Worth? Dumbasses. Actually, in June of this year is when the population of Fort Worth is supposed to cross over and be larger then Dallas. The metroplex is one growing blob. Urban growth boundaries could have helped prevent some of the mess. (One of the reasons Portland is first on my list.)

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 09:56 AM) If I lived in Mesa, I would do the same thing. On a different note, my wife and I are moving back to Chicago from Austin this weekend. Sorry Tex, Kap and all the other "Texans" that have moved down here. Here's the kicker...we are buying a house in Oak Park, selling our house here, driving with a 34 week pregnant wife, a crazy cat, trying to find a job, staying with relatives and in a hotel and trying not to bite each others heads off. Fun, eh? "I was not born in Texas, but I got here just as soon as I could!!!" And to add to that, left just as quick! I'll wave Kap as I drive through Big D. Why did you decide to move back? I actually have Austin on the short list of cities I'd like to move to.

#42 ~ Should the whole team wear it Tuesday?
QUOTE (WCSox @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 10:38 AM) But if we're going to honor people for having incredible and positive impact on the game, I think it's only fair that MLB honors Babe Ruth in the same way. Baseball arguably never would have emerged from the ashes of the organized crime scandals of the early 1900s to become the "National Pastime" without him. I tend to agree with you but I also think Jackie Robinson had an impact on the nation as a whole, even for those not concerned with the game. It was a watershed moment in our history whereas Ruth's elevation of the game of baseball was just that...a baseball-related phenomena.
