And since I am learning new things today, I will no longer eat trees for fear that they have feelings and emotions.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 04:45 PM) All of the good ones. Yours suck and have been thoroughly discredited. Apparently. You'd think it's common sense to think that the total amount of inputs over a cow's lifetime is way more than the output of meat it will provide at slaughter. And the mass amounts of waste materials the cow excretes hasn't even been touched upon.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 04:43 PM) This is all wrong. The "X amount of water + food for beef" argument has been torn up again and again. The numbers given are usually way off anyway. Oh yeah? Which sources are you citing? And you're telling me that the amount of food and water given to a cow over it's life time is what...the same amount that a human would consume?
-
Oh man. This is going to get ugly.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 04:29 PM) You can still cook and sterilize it. But it's a trick question, I'll just have my pet tiger bring down the cows! Hope you're not Seigfried! Or was it Roy?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 04:28 PM) About as bad as claiming that harvesting wheat is just as bad because animals are inevitably killed. So NOW you admit that was lame.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 04:25 PM) What's your thoughts on scavengers? What if I only eat meat from already dead animals? I'd say I hope you live in Canada so that you'd get great health insurance to cover the many hospital trips.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 04:25 PM) Silt and clay taste better. Says the guy who eats human meat.

Woohoo!! Congrats!! And what, no wedding pictures???

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 04:21 PM) But, to be fair, we grow a lot more food than we need because we turn around and feed it to beef and pork. A lot less efficient than just eating the grains/vegetables/etc., but also a lot less tasty. Just look at all the record droughts we're seeing in the world and look at how much water and food is needed to produce 1 lb of beef. The population has been exploding exponentially the last 150 years and shows no signs of slow down. This paradigm is unsustainable.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 04:15 PM) Plants will develop poisons to kill pests and drugs to stimulate those who would help them, all for the benefit of the species. Trees will actually create their own environments and draw other plants to them. Some trees will sacrifice themselves to pests to save others. Plants can really do some amazing things. And shouldn't the actions and behaviors observed be a better judgement of intelligence than the appearance of a spinal column? Fine. A cow and a carrot are the same exact thing. You've convinced me. From now on I'll only eat sand and plastic.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 04:13 PM) Check out fruitarianism or jainism. Your wheat harvests kill millions of living things and inevitably result in the death of animals. You are no different than Michael Vick! Excellent equivalency demonstration.

Last I checked plants do not have a central nervous system. I don't recall ever hearing a tree cry out in pain when I picked an apple from it.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 03:55 PM) Wanna bet that just pisses people off more? I doubt that. /sarcasm

LOL. 158 posts and it's still in Pale Hose.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 03:31 PM) You know, you can be against eating meat or using animals products, against hunting and against the deliberate torture of animals without trying to make a hilariously bad argument that all three are morally equivalent. Morals are subjective.

QUOTE (sircaffey @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 03:14 PM) Oh please. Chickens also produce eggs which humans eat millions of each and every day. I was referring to chicken meat which wasn't always as thick as the bible. That started happening after the factory farm system, with it's accelerated chicken growing practices, became entrenched in our society. Prior to that you wouldn't get much meat out of a chicken. I'm sure a factory farm could be set up to pump up dogs with steroids in order to produce plump meat. Instead of a pig in this pen, just make it a bulldog:
-
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 02:54 PM) No, they're not good meat animals period. They require too much input for too little yield. Sort of like chicken before factory farming started.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 02:34 PM) Eating is a natural behavior. Animals eat, and especially in nature, eat as much as they can as often as they can. The reason farm-raised animals are fat are because they're bred that way, they don't eat a diverse diet, and most importantly, they usually don't get the exercise they'd get in the wild. But feeding them is natural, and you don't have to trick them into feeding themselves. You really thinking that factory farm animals are extremely large because they don't get enough exercise? You have to be kidding. They are engorged with food and steroids their entire short-lived, tortured lives. In your personal opinion. In Western civilizations No. He was saying that MB hunts for sport because he enjoys it. It is not necessary for him to hunt animals to stay alive.
-
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 02:32 PM) I can't even respond to this. Well, obviously I can since I am. But you're saying an animal is the same as a human. No way. Humans are animals.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 01:46 PM) Vegans make me laugh. Do you people live in a house? How many animals were displaced when your house was built? And tell me again what is your house made of? Wood? Trees are habitat to many species of animals. I can't believe you people would take an animals home like that. How could you? Do you wear leather shoes or do you go barefoot all the time. Have you ever played a sport with a ball made of leather? Vegans act so superior, but there just as big of hypocrites as everyone else. This post is ridiculous. No one attacked you yet you're attacking me. You seem to know nothing about a vegan lifestyle. Veganism is about going out of your way to avoid the consumption of animals and animal products. I'm not going to advocate that everyone kill themselves so that we can give the animals their land back. And no I don't wear leather shoes or leather anything for that matter. Same goes for wool or silk.
-
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 01:44 PM) I certainly don't think it's accurate to say that the world would be a better place if everyone were vegans. And why not? Other than the fact that most people like the taste of animals.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 01:43 PM) Me too. Back to my question...do you really think that Vick has paid dues and should be forgiven? According to the law, yes. Although I would have preferred a much more severe penalty than the one he was given.
