Sox @ Twins, Thursday, 8/19, M56 v The Stache

27-10 Sox -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 03:45 PM) I'm not one to pick at the little things - heck I was even defending Ozzie for not pinch-hitting for Kotsay in the game you are referring to. I am talking about basic stuff. I am talking about not batting a barely major league player (at this stage in his career) like Mark Kotsay fifth in the damn lineup. I am talking about realizing that if you attempt steals so often your guys are running a 65% success rate, you are probably running them too often. I am talking about not taking the bat out of the hands of hot hitter by bunting every damn time you get someone on base. I am talking about understanding that not every single hitter in baseball hits oppo side pitchers better. I am talking about not pitching a guy like Putz three games in a row when you have fresher arms available in the pen. This is stuff other managers seem to understand just fine, but not Ozzie. Well stated. And it's things that he continues to do year after year because he's so stubborn and refuses to learn from his mistakes.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 03:41 PM) The Nerdy Baseball Blog I am Apart of. 'Apart' should be two words. And the link is broken.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 03:00 PM) It's going to be neat when we do get a new manager. It sure is. He/she will most likely realize we play in a launching pad and not Petco Park and try to use that to our advantage.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 02:32 PM) The manager is and always will be the easiest target. They can be blamed for stuff in victories (and always are on here; people ranted daily about him playing Kotsay even in the 25-5 stretch) and of course in losses. My question is: OK, guys. Jim Thome is available after this season. Do you want him back? Maybe if Ozzie isn't the manager. He would just play the 40 year old for 150+ games and we'd all watch him fade away in August and September from overuse.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 02:16 PM) For someone who gets so mad when people talk negatively about ex-players, you sure as hell are super negative about the current members of the team. Don't worry. He won't be posting after today since he stated that the naysayers would just start following the Bears after we got swept tonight.

LOL. This is the most ridiculous thread in ages. Don't stop now boys!'

To get into the mood he played this record...

That's where I would have just cinched it up.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 11:35 AM) You'll notice people are talking about Ozzie, and not the losses on the field. This is his plan. He takes the pressure from the players, and still believes the Sox are in this thing. His approach sucks, but it's all the man knows. I wish he knew more. Like how to optimize a lineup, manage a bullpen, etc.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 11:04 AM) As long as he was limited to the neighborhood of 325-375 at-bats, I think he would have been fine. The rest of them would have gone to Jones, Quentin and resting some of the everyday players. It doesn't matter, we'll never know, will we. It will be argued over and over again this offseason...and you're right, Ozzie being Ozzie, he probably would have felt obligated to play Thome almost every day and would have worn him down eventually. Reason #255 why he is not a good baseball manager.
-
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 10:56 AM) If Thome was here...do you think he would be our everyday DH? Yes QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 10:56 AM) If so, do you think he would have the same type of season without the rest he's getting in Minny? No. They are using him the right way. He would be our everyday DH batting 4th or 5th and be worn down by August like he has been for the past few seasons with us. If Ozzie was smart he could have used him against righties and someone like Jones for lefties.

For once can we put up a nice lead right out of the box instead of playing catchup after the 1st or 2nd inning? -

QUOTE (docsox24 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 09:49 AM) Carlos was a bad ass back then Indeed. Why does he have to suck so badly on the road? It's depressing. -
Too bad it was the right size but wrong shape.

Not going to happen with this regime.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 09:18 AM) 2005 feels like centuries ago. It's like Ditka and the 1990 team. Although we won't win the division.

I would love to just see AJ walk up to Pavano and punch him in his stupid porn stache. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 05:39 PM) Another pathetic response by Ozzie with regards to Thome: http://twitter.com/cst_sox You can direct link a specific tweet by clicking the "about XX minutes/hours ago" right under the tweet.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 02:17 AM) People believin' Ozzie is playin' GM. Snake oil at best. Yeah there's only video footage on The Club of him in a room with Kenny and Reinsdorf making roster decisions. That must have been CGI.
