  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 02:43 PM) I just hated when he made excuses about the horrific defense. He went out and said Ramirez was a GG calibur SS. He said he was a better SS than 2B. Now he says its it first year playing there, they expected some problems. Concentration problems? Thats garbage. Good defense is a requirement for championship-like play. I'm through with the SS experiment with Alexei. He is absolutely awful out there. We can't have him there next year.
  2. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 01:06 PM) Dye seems to have mailed it in. His avg should be around .245 at the end of the season.
  3. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 12:58 PM) Damon belts a hanger for 3-2 Yankee lead. That should be enough for them.
  4. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 12:55 PM) Jaba rules in NY as usual.
  5. QUOTE (b-Rye @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 02:34 PM) We'll still have the same infield as this year. Unless you're a mind reader you don't know that. Anything can happen before opening day next year. Paulie or Alexei could be traded. Nix or Getz might get shipped off. Who knows. Maybe we sign Figgins?
  6. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 02:31 PM) If the Sox honestly believe that the problem is that the players aren't responding to Walker's instruction (rather than the players just not being that good anymore), then I'm completely on board with replacing Walker. But it has to be for that reason, and not an overly-emotional, immature scapegoating move. Have you ever heard of a coach getting fired just to send a message? It's always chalked up to poor play on the field and if Walker were to get fired Kenny would tell the media it was because of the production of the offense.
  7. QUOTE (b-Rye @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 02:31 PM) The defense will make Peavy look bad anyway so it don't matter. I'm sure this will be the exact same team next year. Kenny will re-sign Dye and Pods and continue to rotate in Rios in the OF. He may even re-sign Contreras and plug him in as the utility infielder.
  8. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 02:29 PM) Oh man, I've felt this way since the beginning of the season. At least Dye and Konerko weren't this bad back then.
  9. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 02:27 PM) Seriously, am I the only person who feels this way? I actually take solace on a weekly basis that we achieved not being no-hit. Sorry I didn't answer. I definitely feel that way since the ASB.
  10. QUOTE (CQMVP @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 02:24 PM) This team just sucks so bad. There isn't a single aspect of the 2009 White Sox that is above average. We are just an underachieving group of dinosaurs, with terrible baseball IQs, and zero chance of competing for a World Series. This team needs a 50% turnover for next year, for the playoffs to even be a pipe dream. Starting pitching for 2010 looks above average. At least we have that going for us. Defense needs a drastic upgrade.
  11. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 02:09 PM) I disagree, and would add that some people here are wrong in thinking that it's OK to throw coaches under the bus in baseball. If JR and Kenny morph into George Steinbrenner, there will be negative consequences. Remember how Griffey and Maddux both nixed trades to the Yankees? You'll see the same thing when Kenny tries to trade for the next Jim Thome or Jake Peavy. And I want to make clear that I'm not against firing Greg Walker... as long as it's done for the right reason. Scapegoating Walker to "send a message" isn't the right reason. Then provide me with a valid reason to fire a hitting coach? The offense is terrible. That seems like a good reason to me and I think most people in baseball would understand why he'd be fired when they looked at our offensive numbers.
  12. QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) I always thought his name was Jake Glass Joe is a reference to the first guy you fight in Mike Tyson's punch out. The "glass" nickname means he's quite fragile.
  13. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 01:58 PM) You don't fire the hitting coach because the aging sluggers in the middle of the lineup aren't producing. The only "message" that sends is that Kenny and JR will throw their coaching staff under the bus when inferior talent fails to produce. You're going to have difficulty convincing a good hitting coach to accept a job with the Sox when they have that reputation. Doing something for the sake of doing something is an emotional, illogical, and unprofessional approach to running a business. I completely understand the point you've been trying to make but you fail to use context. This is baseball. This sort of thing is done every single season by at least a few teams. It's not like we would be doing some unprecedented move that would be the front page of SI, crippling our franchise for a decade. You're completely overreacting about the implications of firing a hitting coach.
  14. The one good thing about this complete late season meltdown is that Kenny will make more moves to right the ship.
  15. QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 01:57 PM) Who is glass Joe? Dude in your user name.
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 01:56 PM) Jenks? Not for the salary he'll be getting next year.
  17. Out of our entire pitching staff I think we only have 5 guys worth keeping for next year, not counting Glass Joe in the minors. Floyd Danks Buehrle Carrasco Thornton
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 01:48 PM) Embarassing performance in a national TV broadcast which will do nothing for our September attendance... Wish I didn't pick up tickets for the Oakland series in September. Bought them when we were still within a couple games. I might just eat them now.
  19. It's sad that we have a crappier team than the Cubs right now. I fully expect to lose that game later this week.
  20. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 01:35 PM) How many other people on this board notice that there is AT LEAST one game per week where you just give thanks that the White Sox weren't no-hit? This is one of them. And I am as serious as I can be, there is one a week. The offense is fine. Dick Allen told me so.
  21. Thank you KW for giving us Colon, Contreras, Wise, Lillibridge, Pena, and Garcia this year. The easiest division to win in baseball and we're handcuffed with a pile of garbage players.
  22. QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 12:35 PM) And Sergio frickin Mitre has a no-no going. Walker is a joke....that's my story and I'm sticking to it. In case you haven't noticed it's the 2nd inning.
  23. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 12:34 PM) Anything not involving Jermaine Dye playing RF works for me. Does he even have 5 RBIs since the ASB?
  24. Can we give Thome a weekend off to gather his thoughts.
