Should this REALLY be a college course?
QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Jan 8, 2008 -> 08:51 AM) isnt that the Univ of Michigan's decision, not yours or mine? From some of the U of Michigan grads I've met, I think it's a required course. ZING!

QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Jan 8, 2008 -> 12:50 PM) Well I better get to Best Buy or Tigerdirect soon then. Any suggestions Steve? I hear Samsung and Panasonic are good. You have come to the right place my good man. I did all the research in the world... and wound up purchasing (only 7 months ago, so still new) a 40" LCD 1080p Samsung from Best Buy. My mother in law spent a grand more on a Sony and it looks no better. Just make sure you get two HDMI inputs minimum on the one you get, as I assume youd want to have TV/video games both, and get the HDMI hookup for your 360... it makes a world of a difference and looks gorgeous. Also, to save money, you could go with 720p... the difference is HARDLY noticeable. You can save a lot of money that way. I'd be happy to PM you some product numbers too, if you're interested.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 7, 2008 -> 06:14 PM) Call of Duty 4 may be the best console online shooter to date. It blows Halo 3's out of the water, and almost everything I've read says the same. As long as you ignore IGN, the most respected gaming Website out there, which rated Halo 3 higher.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 7, 2008 -> 06:17 PM) Thats what I think the plan is going to be. Just send them the shell with the disc drive still in it, tell them the disc drive has been f***ed for a while, and now the red lights are coming on, and see where it gets me. The worst thing that can happen is they tell me they can't fix it, and I have to pay the $99. It would basically put me in the same spot I am in now, right? I wouldn't say anything like that... I'd just be vague and tell them that it's not working. They do so many of these they'll have sent you a new one before they even diagnose the problem.

QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Jan 7, 2008 -> 05:58 PM) I told them that my games were unplayable and they asked if the system was registered, serial number, etc. Then they send you a box to put it in, you drop it off at a UPS store and the work is done. If it helps i've had people tell me that they've just told Microsoft that they've gotten the red lights even though it was another problem, and they had no problems. So take it for what it's worth. Hey tony, now that I've read this you won't have a problem. Just call, tell them your XBox stopped working, and keep your harddrive. For some reason I didnt know we could take our harddrives out (even though they sell them without so OBVIOUSLY you can!)

No, not THERE.....pervert.... I also do want to add that I didn't mean to water down Steve's original intent - this place is one of the first places I stop when I hit the Net every day, and I too am very grateful for the time, money and energy spent on this site! Dude, don't lie, you write all those commercials don't you. The #1 line is as good as any in those commercials. It's going in my sig.

Universal Healthcare
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 01:36 AM) I find these cries for socialized medicine pretty interesting. I am a type II diabetic. I have been an athlete all my life, I eat healthy, never have smoked, and have run every night 5 or more miles. I am in great shape, and I am not the person you would look at and say thats a diabetic( 6'2 175). My doctor was probably just as shocked as I was. The family history is very strong, but to be diagnosed at 32 years old in the shape I was in was pretty odd. My children most likely carry the genetic cocktail that will turn them into diabetics later in life. So healthcare is a very important issue for me. I receive amazing care, I have a great medical team that helps me keep my glucose in control. I am not using Insulin, I am controlling it with drugs. The drug cocktail they give you takes time, and experimentation to get the right mix. And it always changes. One year one drug works, a few years later you need to adapt. So I can tell you honestly that the money I spend on my healthcare is money well spent in my opinion. I only have to look at my young children for a reason to stay issue free. As I have relatives around the world, some in socialized medicine countries. Their experience with dealing with diabetes and the care is not the same. They get put on a drug, and it takes a minor miracle before it gets changed if its not working. They take longer to get minor issues taken care off. For a diabetic, a minor issue one day is a major one in a few years. Do you know why a diabetic gets their eyes checked. Its not just because of the blindness issue. The arteries in the eyes and your kidneys are similar in structure. They use the eye test to gage what is going on with your renal arteries, another area that can fail over time with glucose poisoning. When you have too much glucose in your system over time, it damages these arteries. This damage can be reversed if caught in time, but if it isn't caught in time it can cause renal failure. So a simple issue can become a major one if left untreated. The idea that the care will be the same because the government will take over and it will be free is naive as well. People with chronic diseases will suffer with the level of care they will receive if we move to socialized medicine. Thanks for the recap, this is a very educated view on healthcare. However, I think Universal Healthcare is for the better. People shouldn't be avoiding the doctor just to save a few hundred bucks (or more.)

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jan 7, 2008 -> 03:16 PM) So her experience began in 1973? What exactly was she doing from 1973 to 1992? Seems like a stretch to count all of that as 35 years of solid experience. Any candidate can just add all the years up since they graduated college as their experience. It's POLITICS.

QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Jan 7, 2008 -> 03:16 PM) You keep the hard drive, all you send is the console. And to Tony from what I was told when I had to send mine in was that the 3 year warranty covers anything. I didn't have the red lights and mine was taken care of no problem. best 70 bucks spent ever.

QUOTE(JFields27 @ Jan 7, 2008 -> 01:55 PM) the thing with the red lights is you call microsoft they send you a box you put your 360 in it you send it in and they send you back a xbox that they already fixed with the red light problem Do they transfer the game saves and live account and everything from the harddrive? my buddy got his back with all that in-tact so I think that might be false information. I'm fine though, I've got my 3 year warranty and if I havent seen those lights by November 2010 well, I'm going to Best Buy to make my change regardless.

No, no life-changing... was just trying to tell the guys who work their ass off that this is a good site. The song, though, was brilliant, and I would love to be a part of its chorus.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 7, 2008 -> 01:46 PM) Alright, update and new question. -Called Microsoft, told me to delete my saves for NBA 2k8(game I have been having problems with, had problems with 2 different copies) and that should help. They also had me clear out my cache. Played a few more games, and sure enough, same thing is happening. They told me if I still had a problem, call them back, and I would have to send it in. Here is the problem. I only had the 1 year warranty, and apparently 360 only extended the warranty to the 3 red lights, not anything else. So do I pay the $99 bucks they want me to pay? Is there any way around this? You'll just have to pay it with only having the one-year warranty... unless you can somehow get those lights to turn on (though i dont know if that would mean theyd fix your other issue too)

2008 Flying Under the Radar
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 7, 2008 -> 01:38 PM) it was supreme cheese Exactly what makes it so awesome. The questionable moment was when the black chick was like 15 seconds ahead of that little girl who won and yelled that crap and was just laying on the reverse treadmill hanging onto the top with no effort to get up. But she could have just been exhausted.

Need some weight loss tips.
QUOTE(joemg311 @ Jan 7, 2008 -> 12:41 PM) Get yourself a jump rope if you have the room indoors to use one. They are inexpensive and give you quite the workout. You can also mix up your jumps and try to learn tricks, there are really many different ways you can exercise with one so you don't get too bored with it. Now THAT'S a suggestion. Thanks!

Official NFL Thread
It really shows the sad state of the NFL in terms of elite teams that the Giants won that game so handily in the playoffs. I've never been less-impressed with a playoff team that won on the road. Seriously, the QB play in the NFL needs to adjust to get to the level that these monsters on the defensive lines have, or else these games will continue to not be pretty. Extended drives just don't happen as often as they used to... it seems that teams score on homeruns more and more.

Maybe this can be pinned for all of us that are gracious for this Website. I have, for the last three + years, used Soxtalk as a place to talk White Sox, all sports, entertainment, and a few other things. Recently, I've even dabbled in asking soxtalk for health info and other things, and I realized that this is a really expansive site with folks you can trust. However, unlike other sites, I know that this one will be correctly policed so things don't get out of hand and annoying like many Websites do... so for all y'alls who police the site, have lended your creativity and ideas, your money, all of it... what the hell? I thank you.

Video Game Catch-All Thread
QUOTE(SnB @ Jan 6, 2008 -> 06:49 PM) the EA sports NHL series is the ones I have the most fun with and play the longest. The 360 graphics are amazing. Halo is best used with XBox Live, so get that. You might want to do what I did, and sell the marvel/forza game on ebay and get something you truly want. I am a huge hockey fan, and found myself disappointed with NHL bc though the graphics are amazing, you can't really tell during actual gameplay bc the only playable camera angle (classic ice) is just too far out there. I used the amount I got from NHL 08 on eBay to get Halo 3. I was quite disappointed in NHL 08, simply because if I have a next-gen console, I want to feel like I am playing a next-gen game at ALL TIMES. NBA 2k8 is a must. It's like watching a real game (at least in HD, anyway), and controls are a blast too. Halo 3... with XBox Live is the single best XBox 360 experience. BioShock (you'll never play another game like this, graphics/story/gameplay all a blast) Those are the three musts in my opinion. I hear CoD 4 is a renter bc the online doesnt compare to Halo 3 and the single player is one that can be completed in 10 hours. I sold my Marvel Alliance and Forza on eBay for around $30 and used that to get Tiger Woods 07 (rated better than 08 anyway, and looks like an orgasm), bc you just gotta have a good looking golf game.
