  1. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 2, 2010 -> 11:34 PM) I'm sure you guys have probably seen this, but for those who haven't... Pocahantas
  2. "you aren't in Kansas anymore"...a movie reference in a film set 150 years in the future. genius.
  3. I'd love to see them add Downs over Williams. that could be a pretty sick pitching staff and with improved D behind it, the Sox could be a very stingy team.
  4. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Jan 29, 2010 -> 11:15 AM) ... all is NOT well have faith. I did like to see that Reinsdorf wants to get rid of the DH or at worst, adopt it for both leagues (never happen). It was a gimmick and it needs to go away. I say this after arguing in favor of it for years.
  5. QUOTE (The Gooch @ Jan 29, 2010 -> 03:04 PM) That would be too nerve racking. I would rather just sweep them. I would greatly fear losing to the Cubs in the World Series. I mean their fans can't keep their mouths shut now and they haven't won anything in over one hundred years, imagine if they beat us in the World Series we'd be very lonely fans. the whole world would be cheering for the cubs - even al qaeda.
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 29, 2010 -> 02:05 PM) Our best team did get f***ed by the strike. Words can't describe. I knew with so much certainty that if they worked it out and held off a strike, that was our year. I could just feel it. And then...poof.
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 04:51 PM) Can't wait to get out there. me too. Phoenix has become just an absolute baseball mecca for fans. The Reds are there this year sharing with the tribe, the cubs are getting a megacomplex. It's really terrific.
  8. i guess someone has to lose so the east can have 3 90 game winners.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 02:52 PM) What exactly did the Tigers do to upgrade for this season? I like Scherzer w/Porcello and Verlander heading up the rotation, and I think Sizemore will be an upgrade over egghead and Raburn will be playing every day, which could help him. Plus he's a solid defender. They also have a closer now with Valverde. And lastly, I was very impressed with Avila last year. Be interesting to see what he can do with a full year under his belt. Not picking them, just saying, they could surprise.
  10. QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 09:05 AM) Hahahaha this is comical. New stadiums sell tickets. You don't have to add a old, breaking down, once-a-week DH to sell more tickets. never hurts to add a big name and bat to add to the excitement of a new stadium, esp a team that's been unable or reluctant to add big names in the past. but i'm glad it amuses you. As for the Twins, i think they were the favorites going into the season even if we kept Thome. I see the Tigers as the sleeper who could make some noise.
  11. i think the D will benefit by a full season of strength up the middle. People will still run wild on Floyd and Garcia, though. Don't know much about Peavy's move to first.
  12. QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Jan 26, 2010 -> 10:01 PM) Dude are you serious with this line? why indeed I am, sir. It only adds to the excitement of a new stadium, the team adding some serious pop to the lineup. Or did I miss the point and you're saying that Thome's not a big name?
  13. Smart move by the twinkies - big name to boost the opening of a new stadium. Time to root against Thome again. Man...it's been awhile!
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 26, 2010 -> 12:18 AM) Kotsay and Jones aren't exactly guys you can say that "change our approach." You just know Thome's going to go to another team in our division and kick our f***ing ass. Oz better know best. Oz obviously is sick of the shift and slow Jimmy. By the way, these paragraphs in Cowley's story are scary: Thome told the Sun-Times in October that should he not return to the Sox, his preference would be to stay in the American League Central, and he was most intrigued with the idea of playing for the Twins in their new outdoor stadium. Without Thome, it's still a rotation of Andruw Jones, Mark Kotsay and Omar Vizquel, plus Carlos Quentin and Paul Konerko should expect time in the DH spot when they need a breather. ''It's weird because since I've been the manager, we've always had the big boys in the middle,'' Guillen said. ''We have a little different philosophy. I'm very, very optimistic. I don't want to say I've put my job on the line, but I've been telling Kenny for three weeks that I like what I have.'' I wouldn't be so quick to put a fork in Andruw Jones. Power can come from more sources this season than last, esp if Q and Rios rebound.
  15. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 07:08 PM) Not that I'd trade '05 for anything, but if there has been any drawback to winning the World Series, it's that it has allowed Ozzie to believe that he is smarter than he actually is. Call it "Jerry Krause" syndrome--you certainly can't diminish the guy's role in getting us a championship, but it takes a certain level of arrogance to run off a Phil Jackson for a Tim Floyd, just as it does to convince oneself that a Dwayne Wise can bat leadoff for a championship caliber club. From Wise to Mackowiak to Erstad to this "rotating DH" concept, Ozzie's personnel assessments have flat out sucked for the last four years. I still have faith in Kenny, but Ozzie has squandered most of what I had in him. I hope like hell this sucky Kotsay/Jones/Vizquel platoon works, but I just don't trust Ozzie on this, and I think we just got our collective chains yanked for the last four days solely so he could avoid a bigger s***storm at Soxfest. you make a very good point
  16. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 06:41 PM) Actually, to be accurate. Thomas was the DH for most of the season. When Everett replaced him, the team started to lose their 10+ game lead on Cleveland. frank played in 34 games that year. Next...
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 06:39 PM) Some like think putting fishhooks through their nipples is fun. Just want to throw that out there. hey...is my webcam on?
  18. QUOTE (gatnom @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 06:13 PM) Even when those choices involve you getting worse than you had been with said one dimensional guys? Carl Everett was the DH when they won a world series.
  19. i like it. you make a commitment to change your approach then you have to make some tough choices. One dimensional guys on the far downside of their careers just don't fit the mold. Good luck, Jim.
  20. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 11:10 AM) Oh yes, his multi-year splits vs right handed pitching are really quite reassuring: Kotsay's 3 year splits vs RHP: .275/.335/.403/.738, 654 PA, 10 HR Kotsay's 4 year splits vs RHP: .276/.339/.394/.732, 1088 PA, 14 HR Kotsay's 5 year splits vs RHP: .272/.330/.397/.727, 1525 PA, 26 HR Yeah, that's a whole lotta bad right there. Then you look at Jim Thome's AVG/OPS vs RHP in his years with the Sox: 2006: .321/1.203 2007: .315/1.123 2008: .249/.868 2009: .262/.881 I know who I'd rather have as part of a platoon. good point, but this doesn't factor in his ability to spell PK or play some outfield. I'm not saying I agree with it (yet), but ozzie's trying to give himself more flexibility and kotsay does that, thome doesn't.
  21. I liked JT, but I'm going to miss JD more.
  22. on the bright side, at least he'll get a classier response on a return to Chicago than he did to Cleveland.
  23. he should just sign with the royals to complete the trifecta
  24. So, AJ and Teahan are our power bats from he left side? I'm no fan of bringing Jim back - his back is worn out, you know he's going down for part of the season. And he doesn't do well unless he has consistent playing time. But we could use some LH hitting...especially now that Babe Getz is gone.
