  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 05:01 PM) Yep, and some of that stuff Cabrera was doing didn't deserve to be called out (ie: stealing 3rd with less than 2 outs). Dye's attitude after acquiring Rios last season was terrible, and you could see it on the field. Dude, seriously, you used to RIP cabrera in game threads. You were merciless. Now you're defending him? I'm selling, not buying.
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 04:59 PM) That's great news....I'm one of the more excited fans about the acquisition of Jones, as I have been hoping Kenny would acquire him for some time now. A semi-return to form by Jones could really go a long way to stabilizing our offense after the loss of Thome and Dye. I'm right there with you. 10 gold gloves in CF?? That's nuts. I'm excited. If his knee is genuinely recovered (one of his big problems when he added weight) then he and a rejuvenated Quentin could drive in a ton of runs.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 04:42 PM) I don't think Dye was a good clubhouse guy the past few seasons. according to ozzie he most definitely was. And don't forget he was the guy who called out OCab on his s***. But onward and upward - Jones reported to camp early along w/Gordon and to quote Merkin: I'd love to see an outfield of Jones, Rios and Quentin with Pierre at DH and Kotsay being used just as he was last season, a role player off the bench.
  4. the only reason I would've liked to see Damon signed was for his presence in the clubhouse. You lose a lot w/quality guys like Thome and JD.
  5. Could be worse. We could be missing out on a really great player.
  6. QUOTE (gatnom @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 06:16 PM) Atlanta previously being in the talks? Otherwise I have no idea... and the rays too...
  7. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 05:27 PM) I think they know that the market right now isn't very strong, they want to see if they can cash in next year. Beltre signed a 1 year $9 million deal just to do that. He wants to explore a better market. Beltre was initially asking for 4 years and $40 million, he only got 1/4 of the years and money and he's fine with it. So it's still about the money, just not about the money at this moment. That's a good point, but I just get this feeling that Boras will squeeze blood from a stone if he can get Damon more money from DET. It could be his last contract and I don't know what kind of market is going to open up for a one-dimensional 37 y/o outfielder. If Dombrowski is smart he won't budge, at which time I bet that Damon goes to the tigers. Again, just a hunch.
  8. Didn't Damon come out publicly and talk about how much he wanted to play for DET? How he thought he could help that team? I don't buy that he doesn't want to go there. Of course, I hope I'm wrong and he's in a Sox uni in a few weeks.
  9. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 05:10 PM) If he is, then why are guys within the Sox so damn confident about the deal? Well, playing the devil's advocate, wouldn't that be the point? Everyone seems so certain that it's not about the money. I thought it was always about the money.
  10. I think Boras is using us. Could be wrong, just a hunch.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 02:36 PM) My twitter response back to him (semi sarcastic of course)
  12. I would think the city of Mesa would do whatever it takes to raise the money and keep them, it's a huge boost to their local economy.
  13. QUOTE (jz54 @ Feb 15, 2010 -> 10:15 AM) Overrated according to what measure? He's one of the five best pitchers in the AL. Last season, he was 2nd in baseball in pitcher WAR, 2nd in the AL in FIP, 4th in xFIP, had more strike outs than anyone in the AL since Pedro in his filthy 2000 season. welcome aboard. I agree - Verlander's a stud with the most fluid motion I've ever seen. Effortless 97mph. It's fun to watch.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 15, 2010 -> 01:18 PM) Alot of those people live in AZ as well though. They do have alot of fans in Mesa watching their games, but not so sure every other team benefits from it as much as Mesa does. i went to 4 or 5 sox games last year at Camelback. The Cubs game was sold out, the others not even close (actually, the Giants brought a lot of fans, but not like the Cubs). Plus I went to Mesa for a Cubs game against the Mariners and there wasn't even any room in the grass. It's crazy how many people love that team.
  15. QUOTE (scenario @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 09:39 AM) Hmmm.... If the Cubs move to Naples... I wonder what team all those Chicago-area transplants and snowbirds in the Phoenix area will go watch during spring training. Yeah, I agree. My first reaction was like everyone else, f*** them. But I've been going to Phoenix/Tucson for several years now and the truth is no team brings in the fans like the Cubs do, not just from Chicago but all over the country. It's a pretty savvy move on their part to ask for it and I'm not so sure they don't deserve it.
  16. my bet is on a trade for fielder early in the season
  17. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 04:48 PM) No we are all set with Kotsay and Jones and Vizquel for DH. Print the series tickets. Damon's not all that
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 04:45 PM) Is that even a question? it has a question mark
  19. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 11:44 AM) Looks like the twins about to lock up Orlando Hudson. Should we be worried? only if Liriano has really turned a corner. I think our pitching is far better and that ultimately makes the difference.
  20. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 3, 2010 -> 01:57 PM) I haven't seen it, but I'm hearing that Alfred Molina got screwed by not getting a nomination for Supporting Actor. i walked out of the theater thinking for sure he would be, but surprisingly he didn't even get a golden globe nomination, and that's the one that gets the ball rolling.
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 3, 2010 -> 09:52 AM) My ranking... 1) Inglourious Basterds 2) District 9 3) Precious 4) The Hurt Locker 5) Avatar 6) Up Haven't seen: A Serious Man An Education Up In the Air The Blind Side it's a shame that AN EDUCATION hasn't gotten more attention - it's a flawless film w/terrific performances and a good story. No 3D, though. I have to go w/hurt locker - just a good old fashioned war movie that has no political objective. refreshing.
