  1. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 09:44 AM) The Bears D was on the field for almost 40 minutes against the friggin' Colts, who had 7 drives that started in Bears territory or between the 40's, and still gave up just 22 points (not 29, since 7 of that was on an INT return). Defense was not the problem. I agree, and give the D a lot of credit for hanging in there for so long. They held a powerful offense to 22 points. Not bad at all. Rex is who he is, an inconsistent guy. There is no good or bad, just a guy who is both to varying degrees depending on the defense he's facing. This current Bears team has a very good chance of putting itself in the same position next season. But they'll need a quarterback to bring home the hardware, and his name is not Grossman.
  2. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 30, 2007 -> 02:41 PM) I assume the teams are wearing what they wore at media day today: Colts: White jersey/pants Bears: Blue jersey/white pants cool. except that white jerseys stand out more.
  3. Anybody know what uni's the bears will be wearing this weekend? They're the "home" team, right?
  4. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Jan 28, 2007 -> 09:54 PM) Id be more worried about Cleveland then I would Minny at this point. here here. Sabathia, Westbrook and Lee are strong. And everyone knows that lineup can be murder. Wish they could figure out how to beat the kitties. I'm not surprised that scouts aren't touting the Sox. Just like going into '05, there are too many unknowns at this point.
  5. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 21, 2007 -> 09:37 PM) You need to be the first on your block sporting a #9 GOULD jersey, the guy is the best around he needs to be immortalized in fan-jersey form. Or if you want to be REAL cool you could get a #65 MANNELLY jersey and drive all the girls wild. why didn't I think of that sig...s***
  6. QUOTE(JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Jan 21, 2007 -> 08:12 PM) do you guys agree with this assessment? http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writ...ents/index.html Don Banks essentially said the Bears didn't stand a chance against the Saints. He was touting his 8-0 playoff pick record in articles all week. That there is some sour grapes. If he compares Rex to Tony Eason then he never saw Tony Eason s*** his pants against the Bears in XX.
  7. QUOTE(T R U @ Jan 19, 2007 -> 04:34 PM) I wouldn't say they are clearly a MUCH better defense.. its the 11th ranked defense vs the 5th ranked defense.. Both of them pretty much give up the same amount of yards per game (294 to 307) and the ppg is only about a 4 point difference, its not like its lopsided in one direction here. If you want to talk about stuff being clearly much better, I would say the Saints offense is clearly much better than the Bears offense. With the Bears weak point being pass defense (Its still good, but they are better against the run) and the Saints being the #1 passing team in the league I wouldn't be shocked to see New Orleans win this game. You're overlooking one of the most important defensive statistics, takeaways. The Saints won only one game this year in which they turned the ball over more than their opponent. I think there's a far greater likelihood of the Bears creating more turnovers than they commit this weekend and it will be the difference, not to mention Devin Hester. And I don't agree about the Saints offense. They produced 8 more TD's than the Bears this season yet the Bears as a team scored more points. I know they're damn good, but the way they're being portrayed as this unstoppable force you'd think they were the second coming of Montana and the 49ers. I hope they read their own press.
  8. I don't know why I should be surprised by the overwhelming opinion of "experts" picking the Saints, but I am surprised by their reasoning, especially the constant knock on the Bears D. Yes, it's not as good as it was. But what about the Saints D? Seems to be overlooked in all the discussion. It used to be that you always picked the better defense in playoff time, and the Bears are clearly still a MUCH better defense than the Saints. Whatever, it will make the Bears 37-17 NFC victory all the sweeter.
  9. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jan 6, 2007 -> 07:11 PM) I love the optimism, but its only 9:10, you could not have downed that much liquor yet. BA is gonna be good in a couple years, but for this season he is still a .250, 10 HR, 50 RBI guy. I'd take that at this point. I do think he's headed back to AAA early if he shows signs of '06.
  10. .305/21/75 this is based on the very optimistic assumption that Podsednik rebounds strong and Iguchi sees even more fastballs and mistakes with Pods creating chaos on the basepaths.
  11. World Series Championships: Ozzie = 1 Jerry = 0
  12. Rob Dibble told a great story once about pitching in Candlestick during a day game with the wind blowing in hard from CF. His fastball was hitting 100+ but he couldn't get a curve over to save his life. Kevin Mitchell knew it and took him yard to straightaway center.
  13. It's a no brainer: Jermaine did a fine job at SS against Oakland. Sweeney in right field. Problem solved.
  14. For crying out loud, Juan, get your ass out of that s*** hole you call "mi paiz." You're sitting on a pile of good old American greenbacks. Buy off this banana farmer sitting behind the bench, hook yourself up with a swinging condo in Miami and let's play some ball. Aye chingara!
  15. Any word on the health/progress of Kris Honel?
  16. damn, missed it! Hope to hell TiVo can find a repeat. Did you get the name of the show?
  17. I really look for Lee, Westbrook and Sabathia to have big seasons and with that potent lineup, look out. Yes, the bullpen is a weakness but certainly better than '06. Twins could go either way; if Garza and Baker tank and the piranhas turn to guppies, then they're battling KC for fourth place. But I don't see it. Detroit's going to be fun to watch, especially once Shef starts b****ing about DH'ing too much and how it effects his hitting. The new version of Guitar Hero just came out but it's still going to be hard to beat them if they have a lead going into the seventh. Can Jones really be their closer another season? Sox have to figure out why they slump in the second half and then stop doing it. Three years straight they've tanked in the 2nd half.
  18. Verducci's top ten break out stars for '07 includes... I want to believe this trade was good. I really, really do...
  19. And the predictions for Sox futility have begun: From yahoo sports... Link
  20. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Dec 29, 2006 -> 05:50 PM) I banged KW's cleaning lady two hours ago and she told me that the Sox are gonna trade for Griffey and Chavez for Nick Lemon's shoes, Demetrius Banks and a new offensive statistic. I'll keep u doods posted. thank you for that
  21. sounds like they tried to get a deal done for Freddy but Minaya wouldn't bite. If only we could tempt them with Javy...oh man, for Pelfrey? That would be huge.
  22. good read! But I have a wait and see approach to the Tigers regressing. If Sheffield stays healthy and doesn't mind being a full time DH, then the Tigers are going to be tough to top. Still, I do think the wild card has a good chance of emerging from the central again.
  23. I'd love to get a look at KW's "board" of targeted prospects. I'd bet that Pelfrey is right up there.
  24. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 29, 2006 -> 05:33 AM) Let me put this simply... Jeff.Weaver.Will.NEVER.Pitch.For.The.Chicago.White.Sox. Ever. and Brandon McCarthy is untouchable. Like I said, Weaver is a tool. I wouldn't be jumping for joy to see him in a Sox uniform but if memory serves me correctly KW had some serious interest in him a few years ago when he was still with the Tigers. And he wouldn't be the 5th starter, Javy would. If his playoff performance wasn't a fluke, he's better by far. Also, I'd be surprised if the Sox didn't sign a more significant free agent than Toby Hall this off season. Didn't the Freddy trade free up some salary?
  25. Jeff Weaver I think he's worked it out. He's still a tool, but a better pitcher thanks to Dave Duncan. After his performance in the playoffs I'm surprised he's still a FA.
