QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 03:18 PM) His lack of offense has hurt the defense more than anything. So, are you saying that we should disregard how players are trending and just assume that their seasonal average dictates what kind of player they are currently? For the sake of this point, yes, for the same reasons I didn't say that guys like Thome or Paulie or Dye or Joe were burdens when they slumped because in the overall picture, the season in its entirety to this point, they've been the reason we have a winning record and still have a very good shot at the playoffs. If Brian was scorching hot for the last month then obviously that kind of contribution could not be overlooked. A snapshot of his contribution isn't fair, just as it wouldn't be fair to say that Pods was awesome in May, who cares how he's doing now.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 02:11 PM) You can survive on a great hitting team having a defensive SS and CF. disagree, not when it's Uribe and Anderson and they preceed Podsednik in the order. 3 up, 3 down. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 03:11 PM) With his weak .261 average since the All-Star break. It's not like we have another outfielder with worse defense and offense since then. Sure it's better, but he's still hitting around .210 on the season and that's my point, he's been a constant drag on the offense for the whole season. I wish it weren't the case, I'm a big fan of Brian's.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 01:27 PM) Definitely great. Every defensive stat I've seen says he is, and so do my eyes. You can call him the greatest of all time if you like. With his weak bat he belongs in AAA.
-
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 01:12 PM) Uribe and Anderson also play great defense. Pods' defense can't even be considered bad. Like I said, I was talking about the offensive production of Pods, or lack of it. I don't think Brian's in CF just because he's a good (definitely not great) CF. I don't think we have any other options. They wouldn't run Mack out there if we did.

Iguchi's a terrific ballplayer. The play he made this year behind the mound still boggles my mind. I'd hate to see him go anywhere.

Regarding the offense, a lot of blame gets heaped on Pods and I'm not disputing that he deserves a fair share of the blame, especially considering that he bats leadoff. But don't overlook the absolutely s*** seasons of Juan Uribe and Brian Anderson at the plate, particularly Brian. I don't want to hear about his average for the last 30 days or whatever; when all is said and done he'll end up barely hitting over .200 for the season, virtually an automatic out. Worse, those outs were rarely productive when they needed to be. I still think he's a great bet for the future; I also think the decision to bring him to the bigs this season was a serious mistake.

QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 12:38 PM) You mean the deal that would have sent Mark Buehrle to Boston? Surely you jest. I thought I read that it was Freddy.
-
should've pulled the trigger on a deal for Crisp. Too bad there aren't any options down in the minors, someone who could spark this club.
-
I guess I was way off base - I thought they stood and applauded Johnson on the effort. A tip of the cap to him. Sure some were cheering for the hit. But most were knowledgable fans giving credit to a HOF pitcher. Haugh = tool

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 08:40 AM) We're now falling behind in the Wild Card, and we're several games behind the Yankees as well. yeah, a whopping 1/2 game back in the WC (tied in the loss column) and a staggering 2 behind the yankees. this is not a must win game. It would be better to win than lose, but the Sox are not going to go 50-0 in their remaining 50 games. I know, this may come as a let down. But win 2 of 3 and you'll have won 4 straight three game series. I'll take that pace with a seven or eight game win streak mixed in.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 07:35 PM) Ha...pathetic! Brian Anderson continues to give this offense no real production. Instructional league

the New York Rentastar's. I'm going to enjoy watching the comeback even more tonight than last.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 05:16 PM) This is about to get ugly. This team coming out flat tonight is inexcusable after last night's win. seems like it's a little early to make that assessment.
-
can we get a do-over?
-
keep him at 3d

that's a creepy hair strip jon's sportin. But if it works, I hope they all grow one. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 05:04 PM) Ugh, I wish ESPN would show the game, CSN is already having technical problems with their audio... It is on ESPN...HD no less, looks awesome.

I think Ozuna is going to go off tonight - BIG night for Pablo. Book it. Any word on Juan and when we can expect to see him back in the lineup? It's gonna be fugly watching the freak deal to Alex tonight, I'm afraid.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 02:44 PM) For Guillen to speak ill of him like that was just sickening. one step back in the sensitivity training

Some good points about expectations: Linky

He's pretty awesome. I go to a lot of Dodger games and he's a smart hitter. The Sox could learn from the Dodgers. After going 1-13 after the break they've turned it around. Too bad we're not chasing San Diego!
