  1. More From Bobby V.: http://www.asahi.com/english/Herald-asahi/...0510270121.html
  2. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 07:27 PM) Wait Is there a possibility we might open in Japan next year? The World Baseball Classic is set for next March. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/wbc/index.jsp
  3. On any given day, the Marines could beat us. But the Sox would win at least 9 out of 10 times. The real question is, can the Royals beat them in a 7 game series?
  4. I would love to see this happen someday. I don't think the talent is the same, but the gap is slowly narrowing. It would definitely be good for baseball, but the logistics would be a nightmare. Talk about home field advantage when the other team has to cross 8 time zones to play you!
  5. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 05:47 PM) Did anyone see that Sportscenter report on the obvious? They were interviewing White Sox fans and then showed a couple interviews with people who go "i'm a white sox fan, as of three weeks ago. I mean there winning!" That is so aggrivating. I hate Cub fans. /rant over Think of it as growing the fan base. Sure, a lot of them are just jumping on the bandwagon, but some of them will truly convert and stick to the Sox. If they start raising their kids to be Sox fans, then one day Chcago won't be known as a "Cubs town" anymore. If we can get anyone to throw out their Cubs gear and really join us, I think it's a good thing. The more the merrier!
  6. I did not realize just how good of a fielder Uribe was until I started watching the playoffs. He's got a cannon for an arm, and it was always on target to Paulie, never in the dirt. He and Crede and Iguchi turned some great double plays during the WS, too.
  7. WOOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!!!! What a beautiful, magical season!!!!!!! to everybody in the Sox organization!!! to Soxtalk!!!
  8. I don't live in Chicago now, but it's hard for me to imagine topping the excitement in '85 when the Bears won the Superbowl. They were dominating the entire year and people's expectations shot up sky high because of it. They also had a lot of characters that always were in the news -- Ditka, McMahon, the Fridge, etc. But most importantly, it was the first major championship for Chicago in a long time. I think the last one before '85 was I think the Bears in the 60s. (Maybe the Hawks had a championship? I dunno, I don't follow hockey.) Chicago has been somewhat spoiled with good memories of the Bears' Superbowl as well as all of the Bulls' championships. Back then, the city was really hungry for a winner.
  9. What an incredible game! Blum hits the GW HR?!!? Marte with the win???!!! Buehrle with the save?!!!?!! I can't believe even one of these things happened, let alone all 3 in the same game!!!
  10. Speaking of Vladdy, I dunno if you guys have seen this, but Tom Verducci had this article on him recently: "Where's your Vladdy?" (After game 4) http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AnXF...cnnsi&type=lgns He also had a good one about Sox ptiching: "Complete command" (After game 3) http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=cnns...cnnsi&type=lgns
  11. This is amazing!!!!!! The Sox are going to the World Series!!! Unbelievable pitching!!!! I'm in awe!!!! Congrats to everybody on the team!!!
  12. We don't have to listen to the media complain about the Angels' schedule anymore!
  13. Anybody remember the Smurfs from 80s Saturday morning TV? I found this pretty humorous, although the issue of third world child soldiers is serious enough that I do feel a little guilty laughing about this article. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/10/10/smurf_village_razed/
  14. Delurking to say... I BELIEVE IN THE RALLY CREDE!!!
  15. The rule makes sense to me. I can't imagine any team giving up a "free" run that they've already earned. Without the rule, I bet Kapler would've crawled home. That would just be pathetic.
  16. QUOTE(winodj @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 10:57 AM) QUOTE(bmags @ Aug 5 @ 2005 -> 10:42 AM) why are they protesting soldiers death? Probably because they think he's gay. Nope. See the article I posted earlier. http://www.kansas.com/mld/kansas/news/local/12212256.htm I feel like a filthy troll for just posting that garbage. :puke
  17. These wackos live in my state. There have been a bunch of articles about them in the local paper recently. Here's one about how they showed up at another soldier's funeral in Oklahoma: http://www.kansas.com/mld/kansas/news/local/12212256.htm And later in the article: :headshake
  18. This report in the Arizona Republic says that they're interested: http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/s...akatsu0719.html
  19. Good luck to Shingo. I hope he gets picked up and does well for his new team. I was a fan of him and the frisbee. Boone was DFA'ed, too. What did they get for him? A PTBNL. We probably can't get much more for Shingo.
  20. Shingo is 36 years old, is in the last year of his contract, and has been erratic this year. I like Shingo, but I don't see why any team would give up any decent prospect or player in a trade for him straight up. Even if a third team is involved, how could we get anybody valuable enough to trade with? Maybe there is something else going on, like a team dumping salary on us in exchange for Shingo.
  21. QUOTE(mreye @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 08:57 AM) FWIW, Ozzie was saying the other day that the govt in Japan won't let the players go to the US until they're 27. He said it's not their fault and should be able to win the ROY. If this is true, it changes my mind on the subject. Yeah, that's basically true. I have a copy of Robert Whiting's book "The Meaning of Ichiro" (the paperback version was renamed, something like "The Samurai Way" IIRC). Here is what he says in the book: Most Japanese players apparently are signed right out of high school, so nine years after that would be age 27. By the way, Whiting's book is pretty good. I learned a lot from it. I have heard people say that it's repetitive of some of his older books (which I haven't read).
  22. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 05:24 PM) Could we quick add up with win shares of Iguchi, Duque, AJ, Pods and Viz compared to Carlos? Here ya go: http://tinyurl.com/9s2sh Iguchi: 9 WS (as of 6/22) Duque: 4 WS AJ: 7 WS Pods: 9 WS Viz: 1 WS Total: 30 WS Carlos: 13 WS
  23. In this article, http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=stic...v=tsn&type=lgns Todd Jones says: What does he mean by boning bats? I've never heard of it. Knowing some of you guys here, I'm almost afraid to ask
