Any help would be appreciated and this seems to be the place to go for this ever since we got Podsy his seat in the All Star Game. ESPN 1070 in Madison is doing a Dream Job where you win an hourly weekly radio show. I'm in the final 15 and they are cutting it down to 10 through internet voting. So since we do this better than anyone else in the business I thought I'd go to the experts for any help. If anyone knows how to make it easier to vote quicker or can glean any info out of their website (help tech-heads!) let me know. It also doesn't seem to show the vote totals right away so at no point will I know where I'm at. It WOULD be kind of fun to blow everyone away by a ridiculous margin though. And I'd be sure to give props to the boys here, just like Hawk and DJ. So anyway, here's the link: http://espn1070.com/dreamjob.html And I'm Ryan N, second from the last one. Thanks for any help and let's put me on the aiiiir...YES!!!

Anyone going to Camden later this month?

QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 11:10 PM) I'm going Friday night with my wife, but we'll be in the upper reserve, section 328. I hope we paste the O's, who are in a free fall. I think they'll fall to their typical 4th place in the AL East. By the way, I was ready to take on the Nats as my only NL team but my first game (their 3rd overall) was my worst-ever experience at a major league sporting event. The PA system was so loud it was painful. I left after 3 innings. I'm told they've turned it down, but I haven't returned. And I'm not crazy about the way they have stolen some of the limelight from the Sox. Even so, it would be refreshing if they were the team to end the Braves run of 12 or 13 NL East titles. Let me know where you guys are meeting up in Baltimore. I can't promise to make it, but I might. There's an OUTSIDE chance I'll be in Baltimore at this time visiting my buddy who now lives out there. If I am there at this time I am definately going to this game and would love to hook up. Let's keep this thread updated with what's up. -
QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 11:02 PM) i recruited a lot of people on myspace and on the giants board and rockies board to vote, but i know i had at least 3k About 300. This is pretty cool. Starting off I thought this was pretty goofy that so many people were getting so worked up about this. But I got caught up in it. WE got him in the freakin' all-star game. That's no small potatoes.

QUOTE(PutItOnTheBoard @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 05:55 PM) i agree...league leader in steals....he does so much stuff on the field that doesnt show up in the box score....when he gets on base it takes so much attention away from the hitter and on to him which helps whoever may be at the plate I think that's most underrated part of his game or any player who is a constant base stealing threat. The pitcher ends up giving a pitch or two to the batter, plus the ones he does throw he's got the fact that somebody may steal on him in the back of his mind the whole time.

QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 02:46 PM) Remember Milwaukee fans get the Twins on their FSN NOrth channels so they probably favor Torii Hunter Used to. Now they black out the Twins games.

QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 12:54 PM) You know, I was thinking, with the year the Sox have had so far, they would finally be able to do 2 things: 1. Finally beat the Cubs in BOTH series. 1. Finally sweep the Cubs in at least one of the series. Neither of those things happened, and I'm quite shocked they didn't. Both Maddux and Prior were on the mound for only 6 innings, and yet we still didn't pull anything off after that. When Carl hit into that double play yesterday, I'm sitting there going "I don't f***ing believe THIS........" You don't belive THIS or you don't BELIEVE this?

That actually may be one of the reason I feel this way is because I read the game threads a lot and it's pretty raunchy in there. Like REALLY bad sometimes. I agree it's not personal attacks it's just use of swear words to portray feelings. I like the philosophy of the board. I don't like censorship of thoughts and viewpoints but just more on the side of vulgarity and attacks (which get censored here just like anywhere else). But I'll stay around for awhile and see how it goes. I really do like the site and there are a lot of great posters who are very active.

When I read the thread title I thought it was going to be someone ripping on A.J., suggesting we bring back Fisk. Actually, maybe for the playoffs....Hmmm....

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 08:54 PM) This game and series was obviously very important to the Sox, a lot more important then they led on. As a result, we saw them being too eager and pressing on offense. It seemed like the later the game went, the worse we looked at the plate... in terms of pitch selection. This is a sign of folding under pressure. I'm not saying the sky is falling, but hopefully Ozzie noticed what happened today and why. If they thought today was pressure, wait til the second half when the tough part of the schedule comes around and every team is looking to dethrone them and the media pumps up the pressure. Handle it now and learn from it Oz. Now let's go kick some Tiger ass. Well said...

There are too many pictures on here but you can turn them off so that's not an issue. Everybody can have it their own way...which is nice. My only issue, and I'm going to get totally flamed for this because I really have no reason to say anything since I just started posting last week, is that the board allows to much swearing and innappropriate things be posted. I'm no prude and I swear a lot when I talk but for some reason I feel that it makes the board feel more juvenile with all of the swearing. Maybe I just feel like forums are more of a public venue where you use public manners and try and not swear, but that's just me. I'm not saying this place has to change but it may be a reason I look for a different Sox board. And it's too bad because there's a lot of really good posters here that know their Sox baseball and I'd love to have this be my board. Part of why I thought about this also was that I wanted to suggest a good place for my dad to follow Sox games in Minnesota besides just checking the sports or mlb sites that do gameday stuff but I really couldn't suggest this place to him because it's way too vulgar. Again, I'm really not trying to rip on this place. It's a great forum and everybody likes their forums different and if you guys like it that way that's totally fine. I just like one that's a little more heavily moderated in that regards. Now feel free to curse me out for this post...

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 09:55 AM) Get online or call the box office at 10 o'clock or whatever time they're released on the day they're released and you'll get them much cheaper. Do you have to order them for that whole series then? Or order them for any series that could happen or how does that work?

It's crazy to talk about 2 losses in a row as the end of the world when we're playing so well. I'm still very optimistic. We'll be in the playoffs and I really think we can do some damage when there. BUT... the only thing that did concern me about this weekend is that it's one of the closest things that we will get resembling a playoff atmosphere. And we had it at home. It worries me if this team shows they can't get up for the big game and win when they need to win. I'm not worried about them closing out the season. They won't collapse and not make it. I'm just looking for indicators of how we will be able to do once we get to the playoffs and this was one of the first ones and it wasn't exactly what I had hoped for. Of course once you get to the playoffs you've got different pitching rotations and different variables and all that kind of stuff, but I think you know what I'm saying.
-
I'm curious. How much is it going to end up costing me to get tickets for myself and my long White Sox fan suffering old man once the playoffs roll around? Any ideas? Maybe for two kinds of seats...one for upper deck and one for lower deck? Thoughts? I think I remember in 2000 I almost bought some on ebay for $70/piece but then he couldn't make it. Does that sound about right?
-
By the way, I need a good avatar. Any suggestions? Edit: I found this one. Not sure if it's a keeper yet, but it'll work for now. Down with the Cubs!

I suppose it's semantics whether it's bandwagon or not, but when teams do better those fans that always cheer for the team and follow them are just going to be more likely to wear that hat or fly that flag. When you're team isn't do as well you're not going to be as excited to talk about or promote your love of the Sox all the time. I'm not sure it makes those that didn't have their flags out every day bandwagoners, it just means we're doing well and people are excited and it's showing. I don't think it's that these people weren't fans, but now they are. It's that they were always fans but didn't have as much to be excited about, but now they do.

He made his money on foreclosures during the Depresession, so what does that tell you. Although for as bad as everybody makes him out to be (he definately is bad) I'm not sure he's quite THAT bad. He's got an awful stadium and I don't doubt that he hasn't made much money (if he hasn't lost money) during several of the seasons over the past decade. And he has finally ponied up some to put a decent team out there. The dude is still a cheap bad owner based just on the fact he tried to contract his own team, but I don't think he's quite as bad as he's been made out to be.

QUOTE(moochpuppy @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 03:02 PM) Tony LaRussa Chuck Tanner Al Lopez Kid Gleason Pants Rowland At this point I'll say Gene Lamont is still a better manager. No love for Jeff Torborg? It's obviously a ridiculous stament that could end up being true but is impossible to say right now as far as Ozzie goes. I loved him as a player, and I think that while a lot of things he does are f'd up, they're f'd up in a way that seems to be working and may have an oddly sweet kind of wierd rhythym to it. I don't know. He may just have built up enough good karma over his lifetime that it's all coming back to him this year. Either that or the Devil is going to start asking Ozzie to start paying off that debt he owes him. Hopefully that's not until after the season though.

Sweet. My first thread gets hijacked about some kid who wanted to commit suicide. Nice. I've noticed the gameday threads get to be a lot more negative than others. I've noticed that on other boards too. I tend to be a homer, but generally try to be non-reactionary either way. I can't help but feel REAL good about this team this year though. And not in the way I felt before the season. That was more of a "we will have a legitimate chance to get to the playoffs" kind of feeling. Now it keeps creeping more towards "we better do something ONCE we get to the playoffs". But thanks for all the welcomes. I admit football is my sport, but that doesn't mean I don't love the Sox. I might not be the most knowledgeable baseball fan, but I try to hold my own and I live and die with my team just like anybody else.

This morning on Mike and Mike they were talking about how the Sox could go .500 the rest of the way out and win 94 games. I guess that'd be 95 now. That's pretty dern good. I'm not advocating going .500 for the rest of the season, just pointing out that given that I don't feel that they will start playing at a .500 or lower level anytime soon, we're in a perty good place right now.

QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 10:37 PM) Welcome to Soxtalk! And Dog Day already happened. That sucks.

And I've already been asked and I am not MinnesotaSoxFan who from what I reckon got his ass kicked out a while ago.

I popped in on the Gameday thread but that one gets moving pretty fast, so I thought I'd post here. I've been lurking for a few months after searching for a good place to read about the Sox. I'm originally from Minnesota and now live in Madison. I love the Sox but like the Twins also, although not nearly as much as the Sox. So anyways, this is a great board and I'm looking forward to reading and posting with ya'll. I really feel this team has that "it" thing that a team needs to do well in the playoffs and I think we can do it. I'd love to see Frank finally get that ring. Go Sox!!! P.S. Does anyone know when the "bark in the park" or whatever the game is called is, where fans can bring their dogs to the game?
