QUOTE(joeynach @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 05:27 PM) On theme in my history class at college is that History represents trends, trends repeat, and the old saying Histroy Repets itself comes to be. So the question is will History repeat itself for the sox tonight. If we think back to absolute crucial series late in the year for the sox in 2003 and 2004 we have what we have tonite. In 2003 it was on the road in Minny when we got swept and blew the lead in the division which we shorty captured. Last year it was earlier (cuz of injuries) when we also got swept by Minny at home at the end of july after we had made a strong push, the jamie burke collision series. Interesting stat of the night is that tonight is about sold out, no where near for tue and wed, are 40,000 fans waiting to see if History really does repeat? Heres to sox making new history tonight and this week... ! GO SOX!!! Tell your History proffesor that "history repeats" because people notice when history repeats more than that realize that history doesn't repeat. Its like when you buy a new car, and then notice a lot more of that same car on the street. You just weren't looking at it before. History doesn't repeat.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 02:34 PM) Yeah, it's an amazing concept. Taking out your starting pitcher before they get in trouble that inning, instead of letting them put two runners on base. I don't disagree with the move. I was just poking fun at the comment that he's pitching like a Cy Young candidate.
-
QUOTE(sircaffey @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 02:32 PM) 4 innings from 2.5 ahead. We won't score. Lohse is a Cy Youn candidate. Wow... they took a Cy Young candidate out in a 1-1 tie in the 6th?

QUOTE(CYGarland @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 02:26 PM) We f***ING suck If we "f***ing suck".... then I guess the rest of the ENTIRE American League.... what... "f***ing sucks worse"?

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 02:15 PM) Yep, and this being the game thread, I figured I could get it here. . . Its all good, I'm just being a smartass.
-
QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 02:13 PM) inning/score? 4th 1-1 You can get the score live on many sites, ya know?
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) Ozzie should get someone up in the pen before Contreras gives up 4 runs this inning. Agreed... he has got to be much faster to pull starters.... screw respect.... give up 2 runs, you're gone for the evening.

QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 02:00 PM) Just get a f***in hit rowand... f***in hit? Check.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 01:54 PM) Who just laughed at Carl's swing? I know I did. There's a dinosaur joke in there somewhere... I just know there is...

QUOTE(CYGarland @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 01:49 PM) Personally i think we have a better chance at going deep in the postseason as the WC team. But the way were playing now, we'll be lucky to get there. And of course blowing the division probably won't exude alot of confidence either. Every team has a 1-in-8 chance in the playoffs. It is a crapshoot. No two ways about it. Sorry that isn't sexy... but it just statistically true. You get there, you roll the dice.
-
QUOTE(CYGarland @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 01:43 PM) 5-2 Toronto now.......It is pathetic that were looking at the WC right now, but that's the reality of our situation. Yeah, tell me about it. Kinda like the hapless 2004 Red Sox, 2003 Marlins, 2002 Angels, 2002 Giants, 2000 Mets....
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 01:42 PM) Home field? Thats a pretty sweet trophy Except its been proven statistically meaningless.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 01:39 PM) Boston's losing big. Wouldn't that be funny if Cleveland got the AL's top spot. What award do you get for having the AL's top spot? I don't remember any trophies for that? Maybe I'm confused...
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 01:36 PM) Who would have ever thought this year that the Bears game would be more entertaining than a stretch run game against the Twins? Ummmm... the Bears are playing in a "whoever sucks more" division. I don't consider that exciting, myself. The Bears would be up 31-6 on Marist High School, as well. The NFL is a joke.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 01:25 PM) And that's one of the reasons that either our GM or Manager will be fired. Both. The right thing to do now, after nearly 100 years, is "World Series win or you're fired". Managers and GM's are replacable.
-
QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 01:20 PM) no no 2 awful calls. god hates us right now. Nobody hates us. If we're hoping for balks and close calls to go our way to win, then we won't. Even if they DO go our way. Its time for the hitters to hunker down and hit everything hittable. Plain and simple.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 01:19 PM) Haha, I was going to start a thread with only updated Hawk quotes for the rest of the season. Yep. He's getting pathetic. "You had two calls, and you blew them both". Ummm.... hows about Paule goes ahead and jacks that questionable pitch into the stands, rather than letting the ump decide??

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 12:46 PM) Money doesn't win championships...........heart does. We'd do well to remember that. 2004 - Red Sox 2nd largest payroll in the league. 2003 - Marlins I'll give you this one, but they beat the Yankees and Cubs... both high spending teams. If they didn't win, one of these two would have. 2002 - Angels Yep, lots of money spent 2001 - Dimondbacks Bought Johnson and Shilling for one year of glory. May not be as free spending now, but they did it the one year that counted. 2000, 1999, 1998 - Yankees Yep. 1997 - Marlins Spent like crazy for one year. Low and behold, it worked! 1996 - Yankees Yep. 1995 - Braves Yep. Want me to keep going?

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 09:19 AM) Basically Fox has the rights to any Saturday Morning games. Usually this game would be picked up by Fox, but their games don't start until 12. The reason for the game starting at 11 is because the Minny Gophers play later tonight and they have to get the game in and the field ready for that game. Therefore no tv. You would think that the MLB is a large enough orginization to not allow its teams to sign contracts where they don't have the first rights to their park at any time they wish. MLB should have made the Twins play this one away, at US Cellular. This happened last year and was just as embarassing for the MLB. -
Unless I am mistaken, the Cards did not clinch yet?? Their magic number is 1.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 04:42 PM) Can we fire Ozzie today? Why wait? I would not have a problem with this. It may just light a fire under the players butts. George Steinbrenner used to fire managers left and right. He also has a handfull of World Series rings, and is in the playoffs pretty much every single year. Tell Ozzie he's got two losses left in the regular season. Three strikes you're out.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 03:22 PM) I'm as negative as it gets, but anyone giving up on this team with a 4.5 game lead is an f'n pussy. If it makes you feel better, fine. However, to give up on them is ridiculous. Huh? Not when they had a 12+ (I don't even remember what it was) lead earlier in the year!
