The only thing that Thome has going for him right now is that he is a left handed bat. Otherwise Fields could strike out in this lineup just as good as JT. Not to mention he is about 12 years younger in doing it.

Hey, you make valid points. But everybody on this board thinks that Fields/BA are the second coming, and I'm just telling you thats the only way they are going to get consistant playing time, barring any major injuries, and/or multiple missed squeezed bunt attempts.

The obvious solution, to get more playing time for these other guys is to trade Thome. That would free up the DH spot for Swish/PK/Crede etc. Then there would be plenty of opportunities to start Fields/Anderson/Owens or whoever. All Thome is going to offer is the HR and people are complaining that the HR is all we are living off of right now anyway. I think we have enough power in this lineup that we wouldn't miss him. The only problem is he would have to go to another AL team, and the Sox probably wouldn't want to do that, for fear that it may bite them in the ass.
